Was the ego battery plugged into one of those little bitty charging adapter that plugs directly into a USB port of a computer instead of into a wall adapter? I let my mom's boyfriend borrow one of mine and he used that type of charger and it did that too. I use a wall charger type adapter and have it plugged into a lamp timer. It shuts off automatically after a set amount of time. Never had a bit of problem. I don't recommend the little USB adapters at all.

This is very interesting Buzzkilla: "Genuine eGo's only have white LED's."

I have 2 regular "eGo" batteries (real eGo, per their advertising) from a VERY POPULAR vendor here, the LED is blue.

Also, from this same VERY POPULAR vendor, I bought a variable volt ego. It came with a USB charger. I used that charger (hooked it up the USB to my iMac), & 1 night (after a couple weeks of using both), the iMac gave me a message that it disabled the USB port because it detected a very high current.

Soooo, I felt the battery, it was hot, I felt the USB charger, it was hot. oh boy! I pulled out the charger, put the battery in the backyard where it was cold & raining that night. The next day, I threw both out.

In addition, I had originally bought actually 3 of those VV egos from that vendor. I threw the others out as well, as they had always acted wrong too (issues with not charging, not working with a brand new clearomiser 2.8 ohm checked with my Provari - altho with my white LED ego-T 1000 mah, the clearomisers worked fine) .

I am now very wary about buying from that vendor anymore (except for maybe an in-stock drip tip - hard to mess that up unless they take weeks/ month(s) to ship it <- a definite possibility that has also occurred). I don't trust them. Theres other issues too that I won't speak of here, that I've seen them do to others as well, but they have a lot of fanboys who will drown out whatever one posts, don't trust all the glowing reviews you read. Or, they will delete a person's post from their forum to keep their product ratings 4 stars or above.

Caveat Emptor!!!

I just recently rec'd what I thought was a Joye eGo-T battery from what a VERY popular vendor on here as well. Their website had it under the Joye product section and it said that it has a white LED battery but when I got it lo and behold it was a blue LED and the battery was not the same size as my eGo's I have recently purchased from another vendor and it was the same price as my usual hardware vendor that does sell authentic JoyeTech products. Also didn't have any lettering on the battery so I immediately had my suspicions. I emailed the company and they resolved my issue to my satisfaction but I wish that they wouldn't have any indications on their site that they are Joye products when most likely they are not. I was going to keep the battery as a back up but seeing your issues I think I will chuck it.

What is the charger that you used with it? Was it a charger with a cable or just a short hard plastic USB charger with no cable? I also would NEVER charge my ecig using a computer USB port. Computer USB ports having varying voltages that I wouldn't trust my battery on. Not to mention I wouldn't want to ruin a whole computer over a $20 battery. Get a wall adapter and use a timer. Problem solved.

I definitely agree with you about the little USB adapters plugged straight into a computer. I blew up an Ego-T earlier this week by doing just that. It's a really nerve-wracking thing. Even though I have charged them safely from the wall with the proper Ego charger I haven't been able bring myself to recharge my existing battery since then.

I found this while searching for info on overheating batteries. Lately when I charge my regular ego batteries they get real hot even before the green light comes on. I thought I had a bad charger so got out a new one and same problem. This does not happen all the time but a couple of the batteries do that. I am wondering if that is a sign of old age and wearing out? I have never been comfortable leaving one on the charger overnight. I am a bit .... so I unplug the unit the second the green light comes on or soon after if I am busy and miss it. I am the same way with my cell phone. Any ideas on this?

I can hold it, uncomfortable, but I can hold it: 140F
I can hold it for about a second or two: 160F

Just found this thread. Glad you where OK. Its not just e-cig batteries that are at risk, any lithium battery has potential to fail and overheat. I try to never leave my mobile phones untended when charging also. There are a fair few house fires coursed every year from mobiles and laptops as they're left charging untended or overnight. I think if the PCB's that provide the overcharge/overheat protection in the Ego's have the potential of failing then as a backup maybe they should ventilate the battery cases to at least to prevent the cap from potentially blowing off in someone's face. It might not prevent a house fire, but if the batteries are fizzling away without all the heat building up in the chamber, someone might just smell it burning first before it catches fire in their home as well.

Most household electrical items that contain lithium batteries don't tend to be so air tight.

After reading this thread I went on and took a close look at my eGo batteries. I have an original eGo-C battery from Ovale and an eGo-T battery that I bought recently online. This last one has the Joyetech logo on the metal cap at the bottom and says eGo-T on the side.

The thing is they don't have the same font size. They also don't have the same length. Is this normal?

They both claim to be 650mah, they both have the 5 click protection and they both have white LEDs.

The ego-c is apparently longer than the ego-t because it has an improved PCB for better protection, apparently.

So I just got my Smoktek ego passthru yesterday, had it charging while using it for about 5 minutes of light vaping, and suddenly it stops working. So as I investigate I touch the end and it is quite hot, and I unplug the usb cord and this glue like stuff came out, which I can only assume ismelted plastic. If the internals were melting after 5 minutes I dont want to know what would have happened if I left. Now I am just waiting to hear from madvapes. Not sure I want a replacement lol. I do want a 3.7vde ice so idk....
