.......or taking the piss as we call it in the UK! I was amused by the recent contest that spawned many posts and predicted that it would signal the start of a 'goldrush' with other suppliers jumping on the bandwagon to offer freebies in return for some advertising/marketing. I wasn't surprised to see another one spring up but almost peed my pants when I saw that the prize was a starter kit and pass through with a retail value of almost 180 dollars!! I had to check this out and sure enough that is what they are on sale for, a discounted 99.99 for a starter kit and a staggering 59.99 for a passthrough battery which should cost around 6 dollars each when bought in quantities of 10. Now excuse me but at least D1ck Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!! Okay it's a free market but with entrants to the competition having to include a hyperlink to the supplier's website in every post to qualify I wonder what the real purpose is - maybe to generate hundreds of 'bogus links' to fool the search engines? The fact that this is being run by someone formerly known as spokesperson for and supporter of the ECA makes me wonder what's on the agenda.
I started a contest as a bit of fun and I will be giving the winner a really good prize, trust me, but there is no request for hyperlinks or credits and not even any mention of what the prize will be or any attempt at advertising, now that's what I call polarisation.
