I live in a small town, 1 shop that carries e-cigs and they are a cigar shop so help is not real great there. I have been researching online about vaping, but info is confusing. I need some help understanding some of the terminology. Here is what I have: I bought a Riva tank system with a Vision Cartomizer...They call it simply a Riva Tank. It has 4 long threads in it. However, the first one I had leaked REALLY bad and shorted out the battery (Will get to that in a second). The second one just stopped working. Refunds and exchanges are not an option with them so I am stuck with a battery unit and no tank (They didn't receive a shipment and don't know if they will get any more). So, I started looking online. However, I do not know what my battery pack is, I am not sure if I am limited to what they carry. I have 2 starter sets, the Riva Tank that I described and a Slimmer cartridge style one. I believe the smaller to be a 501 because it is about the size of a real cig and has a Blue Led on the bottom tip. The battery that I got with the Tank system is 2.75" tall and 0.5" in diameter with a button that turns blue when pressed. In my research I have seen mention of differing voltages, ohms and that some tanks work better with higher voltages...That is where I get confused. Can someone please try to help this extreme newbie!! I really like the vapor and don't want to go back to regular cigs!!! I just need to understand things so I can buy online and be confident that I am getting things that will work. I have invested a lot of money in the items I have and don't want to order another starter kit to ensure compatibility. Please Help!

I can't be 100% sure as i'm a little new myself and others may help more, though it sounds like one of them is an ego style battery to me. afaik ego and 510 fit the same items. So the ego/510 cartomisers/tanks should be right for your battery. Mine are egos and are the same size with the button that turns blue when pressed. Not sure about the one thats the size of a cig though. Maybe have a look at pics of the ego batteries online and see if yours looks the same.

The entire e-Cigarette thing can be Very Confusing.

Dozens of Terms / Abbreviations and then there the Volts, Ohms and Watts that you mentioned. Here’s the deal though. Anything you use that Keeps you from Smoking Regular Cigarettes is Good. Don’t get too hung up on what is what.

For a Complete Newbie I would say that the First thing that you need to Know is that e-Cigarettes have a Couple of Different threads on them. You have to Match the Thread you have on your e-Cigarette to Whatever you screw onto it.

The most common thread is what is referred to as a “510 Thread”. There are others. KR-808, 306, etc, but the 510 thread gives you the Most Options for Atomizers, Cartomizers and Clearomizer. So the first thing to do is to Find out what the Thread is on your e-Cigarette. Once you know what it is, then you can Explore things that you know will Screw Onto your e-Cigarette.

There is a couple of Newbie Guides here on the ECF. I’ll look around and see if I can find some and post the links to them.

Most rivas are 510 connections but they did make both so I would go to a web sight like smoktek.co and looks to find out and then I would order me some new claeromizers ( most clearomizer tanks will leak if you fill them past the top of the wick ) so if you did that that might be why they leaked.

THat explains it...If you look at the CE4 the wick is way below the 1.6 full line...That is probably why I blew up a battery and why they leaked. They didn't explain that to me at the shop I go to! This is why I need the help from you guys and girls!!!!

Next Step.

Once you know what type of Thread your e-Cigarette is, them you need to find out what the "Ohms" are of the CE4 that you screw onto it.

Ohms determine how Hot a Cartomizer, Atomizer of Clearomizer (like a CE4) run.

Lower the Ohms means it runs Hotter.

Higher Ohms rus Cooler.

So if you bought some CE4's and you like them, when you buy more, buy the same Ohms.

If the CE4 taste weak, you might try using the next Lower Ohms you can find for the CE4. If the CE4 tastes burnt, then you should try the nest Higher Ohms for the CE4.

It's good to make a list of what you use Ohm-wise and what worked Best.

ROAD TRIP !!!!! there are a few Vapor Stores in the Dallas, TX area. Take a Road Trip to one or more and see what they got and how to properly use the different devices. Once informed you can always check out the internet for deals etc. It will be worth the drive.

I went to Dallas and looked for Tobacco shops and they were all Cigar Shops! Should I look for Vapor shops?

Cool...

Looks like your Battery is either an eGo or a Riva. They are Both 510 Threads.

The 2 Piece unit on the left is what we call an Atty (Atomizer/Cartridge) and the one with the Clear body is what we call Genericaly a Clearomizer or Clearo.

What you should try to do is to find out what the Ohms are for both the Atty and the Clearo.

Try doing a Google Map search for "e-Cigarette, Dallas Texas"

It shows many places. I'm just not Familar with the DFW area to know what is what or Distances.

Is there a way to test the ohms with a standard volt meter?

Sure.

On most DMM to Ohms, touch the probes together and right down what they meter says, Then put one probe on the Clearomizer Center Pole on the Battery Connector and the other Probe on the Clearomizer threads.

The substrate what the meter said when you touched the probes together from what the meter says when you connect them to the Clearomizer.

Ok...Looks like the DCV is 3.8 on both batts and the Ohms is 2.9. Does that sound right?
