That's not a bad idea actually. Pay cash for that?

Though by using my credit card only I can't actually lose any of my money however it's still a hassle and a violation etc etc if and when fraud occurs. While I have no love for the banks especially of late I don't want some lowlife scammer to profit and "win" more than anything.

Though I have started receiving prepaid cards instead of paper checks for mail-in rebate payments and while I didn't miss having to go deposit something (pre-iPhone :p) I have found it difficult to use the whole balance on the card exactly especially shopping online with random shipping charges and what have you. Surely that's another reason the manufacturers have switched to them as they get to keep whatever dollars and change are left over.

Ok so it all started when I went to the beer store. my debit got declined when I was positive I had plenty money for the beer. I came home and got online to check my statements only to find out someone had gotten my card info and drained my account. after chugging a beer I had to purchase with a credit card I start looking. the only purchases I have made recently are from cov and gourmet. I'm not sure what's going on but the only other purchases I've ever made with this card was at my work. anyone else ever had this happen?
forgot to mention my card is always with me and noone has ever laid a hand on it

You are protected against electronic fraud with Federal Regulation E. Just tell your bank that you want to file a Reg E claim. They will give you a form to fill out. Maybe you can even get one online, fill it out and take it to your bank. Most banks will give you provisional credit until this is investigated.

Some credit card companies seem to be better at catching this stuff than others. I have used my Discover card countless times on-line. A couple times they've called and found that something was purchased I didn't buy. They called, I didn't bring it to their attention. They have also sent me new cards, I'm guessing when I've purchased from a site that has been compromised. One time, I made an unusual purchase (Plane tickets for several people. Don't let your imagination run wild!) and they were on the phone with me in less than 30 minutes verifying that I'd actually made the purchase.

Happened to me just last week. My bank (Suntrust) called and advised me they had detected suspicious activity on my card. Asked me if I had made purchases from Napster, Itunes and a couple of other small purchases. I had not. Told me they were immediately cancelling my card and that I would not be liable for the purchases. They also said it was common for these folks to make a couple of small purchases at first and if the small purchases went thru OK they would go to the big ones. I'm glad they caught it because I had no idea this was going on. The only thing I ever used this card for was buying from ecig vendors online and now I'm afraid to use the new card they're sending me. I'm ...... big time but am grateful the bank has such good fraud protection measures in place. The only purchases I had made were from vendors I thought to be reputable and have threads on this forum.

BTW - I also recently got a virus on my computer from clicking on a photo of a mod posted on this forum. The photo was posted by using Image Shack so be careful about viewing these photos. Lost a lot of data on my computer plus it cost me about $150 to get the bug cleaned off my computer.

I would suggest having a internet/shopping only visa card. Also have online banking where you can check balances each day. I have stopped with buying from anyone unless they have a secure 256 not 128 bit. I detected a vendor I used before having a less secure web page.

I got the windows restore virus from FB but it was linked to this site...(from what I read it is no longer on ecf) 200.00 later I will not use facebook or click on anyone links ever.
