Well now....this Cranky Squonker started at 24 mgs. I am proud to say that after four years, I have it down to 24 at last. I'm 77, sore, tired, old and cranky. But I do love my mods.

That first 24 are the hardest, aren't they?

...and I'm 66, so now I finally have someone to call my senior:D.

I was vaping at a steady 12. Then I decided to go down to eight or nine. But then something in my body kicked in and I had to have nicotine so I switched back to my original 18. Does anybody else have a similar story. It could be the stress I'm not sure but I feel like I failed the mission. I guess I'll be vaping for a lot longer than I thought. I was hoping to quit but that don't look like that's going to happen for a very long time
Thank you in advance

Everyone's story is different and whatever works for you is good IMO as long as you're not smoking :)

I switched in 2012 after smoking for 37 years. I used 18 mg juice at first with hardware that was way less efficient than what I use today. I still got nic sick a few times at first as I chain vaped through cigarette pangs. I slowly weaned down to zero nic over almost a year and after about a year and a half I realized I had got over my cigarette addiction. I'm now vaping around 1.5 mg nic juice at around 15 watts. If I can't vape for a while, even for days, it doesn't bother me enough to be a problem.

Give it time Vaperer, go slow and feel your way through it. I like a bit of throat hit so I vape my DIY 100% PG juice with a bit of menthol and high TH nic to help with that. Whatever works :)

No failure! That is how you find out what level works for you. Just adjust as you need to. Overthinking it just adds more stress, which is a little self-defeating. Let your body tell you what it wants.
If you get set up so you can mix your required level, you can make fine adjustments, and use higher level at the worst times. Like Hawise said above. This is my method, as I just 'dilute to suit' when I feel I need to.
If you get into DIY at some point, you may find that the cost is so low that you won't stress about vaping as a long term solution.
You don't want rigid timetables for stopping the vape.

That's awesome and coming from 3 packs a day is quite a feat. Just out of curiosity, are you vaping the same tank you did when you were vaping the 24mg? And vaping the same amount of eliquid you did? I see a lot of people who use to vape higher nic and now vape lower nic and just curious as to how many actually dropped and are still vaping the same identical way they did before or have they switched to a more efficient device?
3 packs a day when I smoked. I started with 24mg, that lasted for 2 years or so, then went to 6mg for a couple more years. I now bounce between 0 to 3mg.

@YCrus No I'm not smoking but I really would like to quit the vapor. I didn't think it'd be that hard . Thanks for all the responses
oh well Vape on right!
Finding something to do with your hands during down time will help you vape less thereby reducing your nicotine intake.

It's funny, I can tell if my nic is too high but never notice it if low. From 3/11 to 11/11 I just kept dropping down and when I got to zero it was yukky so I bumped it to 3 and that was fine.
Turns out that I was just a hand-to-mouth smoker. Probably would Jonse though if I put it down too long. About 4hrs is my max w/o a vape. About the same as caffeine.

    Nic levels are important.

Nic type is also important now that salts are in the picture.

But delivery system might be equally important for heavy smokers.

Heavy smokers tend to hit hard. You just ain't gonna burn 40-80 cigs a day gently puffing on them. Heck fire I swear I never worried about mouth and lungs its knees and toes baby!!!

Well once you draw all that nic in your body absorbs it differently. High nic juice is very harsh and burns like the dickens so people tend to tootle puff it. Nic isn't absorbed very well that way. I vape my Kayfun 5 at highnic when reading and I end up vaping pretty much non stop because I can't get enough nic. I never ever get to much nic atlow power.

On the flip side high power low nic setups blast the nic right down to my toes. I often get to much nic this way. Watching a movie mindlessly vaping I get shakey. To long since last meal and to much vaping?? You guessed it nic sick.

Salts throw this system out the window. I been using a Kayfun 5 with a 1.5 ohm build at 20mg nic. Not harsh. Somewhat satisfying. Going into town today to try some 25mg. I had 35mg that I cut to make the 20mg. 35mg is really harsh unless your gear is super under powered.

Personally, I enjoy vaping and I would be happy to do it the rest of my life.

But... if quitting is your goal, I’m sure you can achieve it. Just because it didn’t work out this time does not mean you can’t try until you make it. I mean how many times did I try to quit smoking lol.

People are different. I went through 40-45 a day, but I never "hit hard" unless I was in the rare situation where I hadn't had one in a while, couldn't have another for a while, and only had a very short time to have the one I was having.

It's funny how tootle puffing has replaced the meaning "normal". Now dtl vaping, breathing in like a fiend, is normal and tootle puffing sounds abnormal when that's what is more like smoking...times have surely changed

Its been so many years since I smoked honestly except for the nic to my mind I don't even remember what smoking felt like.

Soon as I took my first subohm blast I really didn't care what anyone called it I just knew I never had to smoke again.

That said I got a new flavor of salt juice and at the full 35mg in a K5 at 14w its ok. Some harshness sure but thats alot of nic for very little effort.

I've had so many tanks since those first days. Way too many to count although I could they are all in boxes in the closet.

I began with cheap, cheap ego devices then spinners, then my first mod an eVic tube still have 5 or 6 of those. Loved the Protank on my eVics at 9 or 10 Watts. Today I can't tell that the eVic is turned on at 10 watts.

Now I bounce between a Kanger KBox with a TopTank using 0.5 ohm coil at 22 watts or SMOK Alien with either a Revvo tank or an Uwell Valyrian around 80 watts.

Didn't track the amount of liquid in those days. Today its something close to 10 ml per day unless I'm hitting the sub ohm set ups all day long then its something closer to 15 or 20 ml per day. Mostly 0 Nic these days.

I started at 18mg. then down to 12 on RDAs. I got down to 3 and then back to smoking when I started 2 jobs. I started again at 9 and am currently at 6mg. I want to go down .5-1mg at a time.
I seem happy at 18 so I'm going to stay where I'm at there's no reason for me to drop and nicotine levels for no reason. I just see no reason to walk around nervous wreck for no reason so I'm staying on 18 I guess

You will know if you are getting too much, and you can adjust down. It is easier to tell if you are getting more than you need, than if too little. If you get kinda woozy, nauseated feeling, vape less temporarily, and get some lower nic juice.

Gotcha...kind of what I thought and probably how most do it when dropping nic...I think like you most start out at high nic, maybe 18 to 24mg with egos and ce's or vivi ' s and perhaps 4 ml's of juice then progress to sub tanks at much higher wattages and more juice consumption. Just was curious if you started, let's say with a top tank at 12mg and dropped to 3mg 3 years later vaping the same exact amount of juice per day.....I guess my point is , newbs see and hear about people dropping nic and want to do the same but don't maybe realized that most just don't drop nic with all else being equal, but drop because of different vaping techniques, more efficient devices, higher wattages, and consuming much more juice.
