I seem happy at 18 so I'm going to stay where I'm at there's no reason for me to drop and nicotine levels for no reason. I just see no reason to walk around nervous wreck for no reason so I'm staying on 18 I guess
  • Do whatever works for you. My drop from 18 to 12 wasn't a drop at all. I switched to mechanical mods and rdas then. That combo would get me buzzing lol. The other steps were years of progress. It is going to take some time to completely quit. It is my goal as well. You have yo be patient. If 18mg is keeping you off the smokes than stick with it.

I agree....if you have no intention of quiting vaping, or are the type that can go back to smoking easily, then I also agree that you should stay where you are. But if you want to quit vaping, then one does need to lower, but I think most do it way to fast. They smoke for 30 years, then switch to vaping , then want to start lowering nic levels within the first couple months which is kind of weird imo, then go back to smoking....maybe I'm different then most and lucky, but I personally know I will never ever ever go back to smoking and feel if one can get to that point, then wanted to quit vaping, then that's when your ready. I suppose there's many that will never ever say they will never go back to smokes because for the rest of their lives will always want to go back (but if that's the case they shouldn't teeter on the brink by lowering). I don't know, everyone is different and whatever they feel is the best way, is....

I am at 6 months without a cig, and I can relate. If you quit smoking with the intent of 'cold turkey', then started to vape to take the edge off, and found yourself vaping far more than you had intended, it can make you discouraged. It feels like you just traded one habit for another. The temptation is strong to want to get past it quickly, and be free of all habitual ties. Easy to say, hard to do!
I still have a goal of getting past it completely, but now I can see it as a process, to be played out over time, of reducing harm while developing a mindset for the 'next stage'. There isn't a free lunch, at some point you have to do the painful actual 'quitting'. or stay on the vape. Either way, it beats smoking!

I was vaping at a steady 12. Then I decided to go down to eight or nine. But then something in my body kicked in and I had to have nicotine so I switched back to my original 18. Does anybody else have a similar story. It could be the stress I'm not sure but I feel like I failed the mission. I guess I'll be vaping for a lot longer than I thought. I was hoping to quit but that don't look like that's going to happen for a very long time
Thank you in advance
When the liquid I am using becomes too harsh to me then I know it is time to lower the nicotine. I have actually lowered my power levels and juice consumption by switching to mainly using single coil attys lately. 6mg has become a bit harsh so I will drop down to 5. I will probably turn up the power and burn through more juice for a bit but I will adjust to the new level.

I dropped down from 24mg to 6mg in my first 6 months of vaping; and I’ve stayed at 6mg for almost 4 years now. Recently I jumped to 8mg and I’m thinking of going to 10mg or 12mg. I vape like crazy and it takes a while to get my nic craving so increase I shall until i feel the need to go back down.

I don’t know at this point which I’m addicted to nicotine or shiny bobbles.

I Vape 0 to 3 mg and really don’t care which as long as the flavor is good. My quest for great consistent flavor has me always planning the next tank, coil, cotton purchase.

I do like Vape mail. I have an app well really a widget called Deliveries on phone. As soon as I have the tracking number I input it to the widget and watch daily as it updates the location of my Vape mail.

Power, power, power. It all boils down to that. I was vaping on 18/16 mg when I decided to go higher in power. The impact was huge. If you can do more air/higher power attys you will go down on mg in no time. For me the equation is 0.4/40w/9mg. And I've been steady at that. When I go to a true MTL I have to use salts. Don't beat yourself up. Try something different.

I totally agree with that. I started at 48-50 years ago and am now down to between 2 and 3 -- mostly 3. If I drop from that I feel it. My goal was to quit smoking, I do not have a goal to quit vaping. I am pleased that I found a healthier alternative.

If 18 feels right so be it. No need to get jittery or nervous if you can avoid it. Down the road, if you want to decrease you can maybe try in very small increments.

Sure, but when you increase power and airflow, you also increase juice consumption. Then the question becomes: If someone can stay off cigs by vaping (for example) 5 ml of 18 mg a day at 15 watts, is he really gaining anything by vaping 15 ml of 6 mg a day at 45 watts? IMO, the answer is definitely no, because the total nicotine intake has not changed, while the amount of other substances (PG, VG, and flavorings) inhaled has increased by a factor of 3.

The nic and likely flavoring amounts taken in are prolly about the same given the much lower percentages of flavoring needed for sub ohm juice.

Which leaves PG and VG and likely mostly VG.

Now PG is some nasty stuff so it wouldn't surprise me if it was unhealthy but I have not a lick of proof.

VG I think is pretty harmless but if you have some proof I'd be all ears.

I personally am pretty comfortable with vaping being reasonably safe.

Another factor is for example with my gear 18mg would need higher PG which just slays me so I would very quickly quit vaping which likely would long term lead to smoking and no way out because the thought of PG juice would make me not wanna try vaping which means 18mg juice is unhealthy for me.

For me lung hit is important too and for myself getting a satisfying lung hit from 9w mtl was frustrating. I am so happy I took a chance and bought the STM. Made all the difference.

It may be nasty for those who are PG intolerant, but those of us who aren't? I credit it for me not having had a cold since I switched to vaping. I've felt one coming on a few times when I woke up in the morning. But within an hour of picking up my vape (generally 35PG/65VG), the symptoms disappeared.

I understand that's true for some folks, but but no means everyone. So if that's what it takes to get a person to put down the coffin nails, fine. However, for those of us who were able to quit using higher-nic MTL gear, I don't think it makes any sense at all to jack up the power and increase the volume of juice we vape just to be able to say we're now vaping a lower nic level.

My feelings are mixed about the above statement.

I go through a lot of juice. I vape at 18 to 22 watts, use coils in the range of .5 to .8 and do go through a good amount of juice. I use 3mg juice down from 50 when I first started vaping but on different equipment. My overall nicotine consumption -not absorption -, based on the amount of juice I go through, is definitely high, but overall less than the overall amount of I used when I smoked.

There are so many studies and papers about how much nicotine is actually absorbed via smoking and by vaping but nothing that I have found that is totally concrete -- just educated estimates.

This one (source Government Laboratory - Tar and Nicotine Report) discusses the nicotine yield but not the total and then cigarette manufacturers had to change the labeling from the method they used and only use the yield (source https://www.ftc.gov/sites/default/f...filter-method/081208cambridgefiltermethod.pdf)

The key difference I believe is the number and type of ingredients, There is much less in vaping and, of course, no tar and no burning tobacco.

In my case, I am one of those folks who smoked a lot and now vapes a lot so decreasing the amount of nicotine substantially did not increase the frequency for me so there is a benefit to me at least. It's not like I get enough nicotine and then just stop for the day.

I know that when I smoked if I bought a lighter cigarette I could smoke 3 times the amount and not be satisfied and so, far, that has not really happened to me with vaping - although it may have if I dropped dramatically all at once.

For me, I've noticed that I no longer easily get winded as I once did and most importantly I do not feel the same dependence. I've noted that I can go out without my vape and not feel "crazy" and, although I vape regularly and, even in the morning, I generally do not open my eyes and stick the vape right in my mouth. I can also stay in a non-smoking or vaping hotel room and not freak out and run outside if I could not vape for 8 hours.

So, I think that even with a fairly overall high nic content and likely absorption I am still way ahead of the game.

That's kind of what I was thinking....I do see alot of posts with people being proud of lowering (not all because I'm sure some lower their nic with all things being equal ) but are they really? They use to vape 5mls a day with 18mg and now they say they lowered their nic to 3mg, but now their vaping 25 mls per day....it doesn't really matter , as long as it's working for that person its all good, but when noobs see all this lowering and don't realize how they lowered, it may put pressure on them to do the same .

Nic`d Up in Oklahoma!
Iv been letting my body tell when its time to reduce. I started 4+ years ago at 36. That lasted about a year and it started making me sick, so down to 30 i went. So on and so forth, now im at 12. This waiting for the clue, making me sick, has worked well and iv never had to reverse it.

BOL.

My experience has been a bit different from what I'm reading about here.

In a nutshell, I smoked a pad for 37 years and switched to vaping using an eGo-C setup with 18 mg juices at about 7-8 watts if I remember correctly. I really wanted to get past the cigarette addiction so I weaned off nic over about nine months while I increased the watts to around 25 which was considered 'cloud chasing' at the time . Yes, I'm really a rebel at heart . I vaped more juice per day, but I was also vaping no nic at the end of that process. Once I felt I was over the cigarette addiction at around 18 months I started using a bit of nic again for the TH which I appreciate and really missed at the time.

I now mostly vape 'dirty' nic at about 1-1.5 mg in 100% PG juice at around 15 watts. A little menthol helps too. I'm also pretty happy at 25-30 wats with no nic juice, but I vape more of that due to the higher power. I can go days without vaping with no problems and I'm pretty confident if I could not vape anymore I would not go back to smoking. It is however nice to know that since I'm not nic dependant I will never need to stop vaping. That would be kinda like having to stop having my daily chocolate chip cookie

Over the years here I've seen a lot of people talk about needing to vape enough nicotine to avoid going back to smoking. I felt the same way at the beginning of my journey, but I also felt vaping would be a good tool to help me wean down and get past it. My father had passed a couple of years earlier due to complications from COPD from smoking. I was pretty motivated to not go through the same experience, but I still couldn't stop smoking until I tried vaping and once I got into it I just kept working it.

So that's my story FWIW. Do with it what you will :thumb:

Life isn't perfect my friend. Generally those that vape at higher wattages get satisfied with less, no more.

I respectfully disagree. The pattern I've observed is that people who vape at higher wattage consume more juice, albeit at a lower nic level.
