Family reactions

I was sitting here thinking about the diverse reactions my various family members have had to my vaping, and I was curious how other people's families have reacted.

My wife is very supportive. She loves that I smell and... well... taste better  She took a little convincing at first because to her I was still basically smoking, but she has definitely come around. Especially since I'll finally break even money-wise tomorrow

Her parents have been awesome. Very encouraging right from the start with little messages of encouragement every couple of weeks. I have the best in-laws ever, btw

My sister has been curious and supportive, but completely uninterested in taking it up herself. On one hand, kinda sad because she's my only nicotine addicted relative. But on the other hand, she's now 4 months smoke free going cold turkey, so it's only sad from a selfish perspective.

My parents have been by far the least supportive. They constantly ask about cost, change the subject when I talk about the health benefits, and love telling me how they see me "sucking on those things" way more than I used to smoke. Explaining how they didn't see me smoke because I went outside only gets raised eyebrows and "ok" as a reply. They do tell me how much better I smell now though.

How about anyone else? How has your family reacted? Did some take time to come around like my wife did? Do some refuse to come around? Have you converted any family members?

 My hubby fell in love with me all over again  He had quit cold turkey before I got my vapin stuff. He's the BIGGEST supporter there can be ! Tells everyone about it and convinced a few to switch from analogs himself :D I've only been able to convert a couple people so far. Not too many peoples around here even know about it  But I'ma trying to spread the knowledge :2cool: yup :smokie:

My mom and dad are glad I finally quit Krisbkream sir, as is my older sister. My wife has ben ecstatic from day 1, she hated the fact I smoked. She is very anti-smoking. As for my younger sis, she seems ...... that when we actually see each other that I found a way to quit. She refuses to try vaping, and failed for the 6th time I know of to quit again... Dogs are far happier with my vaping compared to smoking.

Hubby is supportive but when he used to ask how long I have to do "that" for, or when I'm planning to quit vaping, the icy stare came into play a lot. Since then, I have been verbally very clear that I have no intention of quitting vaping, so he's not being a PITA about it as much. He does talk up vaping to people and says good things about it, and suggests people to try it.

I got my DS started on V4L last November and she still vapes although she hasn't given up analog Newports totally. I ship or give her juice, so there's no excuse (didn't mean to rhyme) because she is on a small fixed income. My brother started with a 510 in December and also still vapes but I think he's having a daily analog. I have 4 bottles of V4L juice for him he was supposed to get the day of the co-ed baby shower that Irene crashed. He'll be waiting until 9/25 now!

One friend was so psyched about it when I started, I sent her a bunch of links and notes and she goes and orders a kit from edashcigdotcom
Did I mention she's dense? She never carries her PV around and still smokes her Capri Ultra Lights.

One couple we know got into V4L once they saw mine. They shared a kit and cut down on their analog usage greatly. Their teen-aged sons even got into it for awhile. He likes to stealth vape while bar-tendering for a catering hall. She asked to borrow a PV for/during their last visit. They don't smoke like they used to. They are "casual vapers".

One major difference that I'm noticing that sets me apart from these people, is community or even the feeling of a perceived community. These are not forum people.

As smokers we were accepted by other smokers, and as vapers we are basically alone. You could always get a "light" from a stranger, or even bum an analog. We aren't at the point where we can ask a stranger for a few drops of wowboy before the carto dries up. You never see a "bunch of vapers" anywhere unless you're at a vapefest. We are still pioneers.

I don't know if I would have made it without the forum (corny and true). Aside from community, how would I know about lifting posts, and cleaning batteries, and refilling, and a million other things? A new vaper, not knowing how and when to lift the carto post may become a frustrated ex-vaper very quickly.

Sorry, KrisB.. I was on a roll there.

My sister got me into it...her home health aide referred her to V4L. She has quit analogs completely and is starting to reduce her nic. I'm still vaping and smoking some, and the sister who lives with me is the same. I'm essentially supporting her right now and I can't afford to buy her cigs every day but I give her as much juice as I can and I have given her several batts (which she is very hard on!). The rest of the family are non-smokers (but my nephew dips) and while they may not be exactly enthusiastic, they are very happy that my one sister has quit cigs entirely and two of us are trying.

PS Our beautiful mother died of lung cancer at age 63. We miss her very much and wish to avoid a similar fate. The one sister who lives with me had a stroke last year at age 49...desperately hoping this will eventually get her off the cigs. Ha ha, as long as I'm supporting her, her cig supply is limited but she can have all the juice she wants :)

My family has been very supportive mostly.
The night I got my first ecig, it was an off brand that I picked up at the gas station, that looked just like a cig. so I was laying in bed watching tv with this cig looking thing and my husband walked in and said. What are you doing, smoking in bed (I always smoked outside) he thought it was a real cig. I just looked at him and said, what's the big deal anyway, as I pretended to put it out, in my hand. He got the most shocked look on his face, then laughter, as he figured it out.
My daughter in law has since quit, using V4L and we talk about flavors, etc. all the time.....wow...it's a bonding experience. My other daughter in law would really love to try using one, but hasn't been able to afford it yet.
My daughter, who is anti smoking, anti anything really, still insist that I vape outside......go figure, some people.
