I NEED to do this but have 'issues' with it now because I have a Husband to feed (three times a day!.. lol). Used to be easier when I was single (three day water fasts).... however, I do believe when we deny the flesh we feed the spirit. When we want need or desire a deeper knowledge or walk with God (or a WORD!).. fasting is the tool to use... no doubt.

I think it's AMAZING Jason that you've done seven day water fasts... geesh.. those must be hard. The first two days of the fast is REALLY HARD for me... I stay really HUNGRY those two days.. the last day (not so much).... but for me it's very hard....

Me, not eat for a week? Never happen on this side of Glory. WOW, Jason!! WOW!!

I woke up one morning, hadn't been a Christian for very long, and decided to fast just like that! (Snapping fingers.) I never did it again, like that. Why? You have to be prayed up first, and I wasn't. I made the decision non-chalantly. I didn't understand the whole idea, really. I'd heard of folks doing it and I thought it would be great. Oh Beezebob hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a work day and you name it and it happened. I saw it through the end of a 24 hour period and decided I'd never do it like that anymore! There are different types of fasting. Fasting is giving up something important to you.... diabetics can give up a meal for a day, don't turn your tv on for X amount of days, give up coffee or analogs for X amount of time.....whatever it is. Then start praying about it. Maybe the Lord has another suggestion for you. Just a thought.

Anything for you, my dear Cuz!:)

Off the subject, my cousin is sending me 60 pages of family 'begats,' starting with my grandfather and only going back as far as ..... I forgot. But, it's around the time of King James and Mary Queen of Scots. I am also a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce who became King of Scotland way after the uprising of William Wallace. If you read history, he didn't betray ol' Billy Boy like it shows in Braveheart. So that is another boo boo that Mel Gibson did. However, to me, even though he is prejudice against Jewish people, God still used Mel to make The Passion of The Christ. I think that is the reason that Mel Gibson exists. I personally, as I have said before, went 5 times, and bought the movie. Each time I went, I promised myself I wouldn't put myself through it again. It just tore me up so bad. But, it was like Jesus was at the mall and I couldn't stay away. At the very end of the movie, the first time I went, when Jesus rises on the 3rd day, I wanted to jump up and start praising, but the Holy Spirit said no. I would have interrupted His time with the audience, and that was a Holy time.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier....

I've known a number of people who had a discipline of fasting at least one day each week..... and extended fasts once or twice a year. I've never developed the discipline like they have. I have fasted periodically for various resons and lengths. Twice for 7 days.. but never longer. By my experience, after 3 days, one stops being hungry. But I experienced the symptoms of fasting such as dizziness and fatigue etc. In my opinion, it is "dieing to" and praying through those symptoms that bring such value to the fast. Biblical meditation during fasting is very beneficial. God really does some amazing things in the process.

But it is important to remember what scripture says in a few places....

Matthew 6:16 "Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance; for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. verily I say unto you, They have their reward. v17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; v18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly."

Isaiah 58... the whole chapter gives wisdom on fasting.... but these scriptures in particular....
6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness[a] will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
