Neurodegenerative diseases are just one form of brain disease, but all can be cruel and distressing.Well, Alzheimers was at the top of the list on my mum's death certificate. People misunderstand what it is - they think it's the same stuff that we used to call "senility". It isn't. It selectively destroys areas of the brain. Anything that can help prevent that is very welcome, imho.
So sad that with Alzheimer's we can now predict the likelihood, yet can't do anything positive to prevent it nor halt it's progression.
I worked for a few years on a ward with elderly people who had all succumbed to some form of brain disease, including Alzheimer's. I looked forward to each day with them, difficult though some could be, because usually, it was possible to at least raise a smile or have brief coherent chats with them.
The saddest thing to me was that they were from all walks of life and professions, yet all were reduced to a similar state.
So yes, if there's any glimmer of hope with a supplement or safe drug, I'm all in favour of it.
