Hi! Good to see you againWOW! This thread is still going! I've been away for months and looks like this is where everyone hangs out now. How y'all doing?
..minus one or two
Some mods will automatically go to the default settings, rather than use the last setting. Usual way to tell difference between Kanthal and Nickel build is to check the resistance and/or number of coils, resistance is usually much lower for Nickel or will have more coils
Yes indeed! We don't see a lot of Adam either, but he does 'pop in' now and thenI was thinking earlier, wonder what happened to Vince.

I have been getting terrible pains in my chest for about 5 days now, so i went to the docs yesterday for a check up. My GP looked really worried and asked the nurse to do an ECG on me straight away. The results came through after 10 minutes or so, and were normal.
Then i gave a blood sample, did a poop sample this morning, to take back on monday. ( Sorry if your having your tea )
Anyways, she proceeded to take my blood pressure, and it is off the scale and way too high. they gave me a portable BP checker thingy, and i have to do my own twice a day, morning/evening for 1 week. I did it last night and this morning, and it is still off the charts.Ah well.
I was perscribed Extra stong Gaviscon, and some Tablets for indigestion. The tablets seem to be doing something, as the pain has moved from the left side to the right side of my chest

That ain't gonna happenHave you tried a low-carb diet? It can have a great effect on bringing BP down after about 4 weeks. Fewer than 20 carbs a day - and no beer.![]()

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I'd use a new one for the backups - I have the backup running automatically, and a pop up reminder tells me to switch the drive on.@Pictor saw you on TB, re looking at a lot of the backup drives that you want, they don't even have a power lead, just a USB3 connector getting power from the PC, so easiest way to power them off is to safely remove them in Windows and then pull the cable out.
I didn't know that! Don't think I eat a lot of carbs thinking about it.Have you tried a low-carb diet? It can have a great effect on bringing BP down after about 4 weeks. Fewer than 20 carbs a day - and no beer.![]()
I'm going vegetarian - and reducing carbs. After 40 lbs gained Ina f ew months I have to go drastic. In shocked how many carbs I ate without even realizing it. Including in fruit.I didn't know that! Don't think I eat a lot of carbs thinking about it.
That's why I suggested getting the caddy, and then adding a drive to it, the ones I got have a button, not that I bother switching them off, it really is easy to put a drive in them, and to format them, in fact Windows normally offers to format new drives anyway. I can give you the links if you want. Just one question, you do have USB3 (the blue ones, white are USB2)That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Bit fiddly having to pick it up from where the two drives are, and pull the cord out every week - or plug it in as the case may be.
I see plenty of people asking on reviews if there's an on/off switch or power button, so I'm not the only one that prefers that. Surprised more aren't made with it.
The 3TB LaCie seems the most likely, but it's double the price of the smaller ones.
My 2 have settled down quite nicely, I do occasionally get asked "new coil" even while vaping which can be annoying, but only have to press the down button, so no big deal, I put the Sony batteries in and it does make a bit of a difference as well.@Bobw1951 I have been in contact about the squonk box we bought. I communicated (made a point to do it quite nicely) that the design was very good and I overall liked it but was very disappointed the software had so many issues.
For me they are - temp to power switch you mentioned
Constantly asking for a new coil
Very bad battery life
I didn't receive a response over the Chinese holiday obviously. But did yesterday. He told me there was a new software revision but they sent me one that didn't have it - I believe in error. The new software was released Jan 21. As a result he's sending a second unit out to me at no charge from the New York warehouse.
I'm very impressed with his commitment to put the issues right. I didn't fish to replace it. I asked if the software was upgrade able. If here was an upgrade. Or if there would be.
Anyway hopefully this time it works out a bit better for me. I'd say I see the new coil and power switch just about every time I pick the box up if it's sat for more than five minutes. I know you don't consider the issues incredibly invasive - strange one box has more than another. Unless maybe I got one that was several versions old. Not just one.
Anyway just a point I figured I'd mention in the off chance you are having more issues with one than another.
Happy Tuesday all hope you're all well.

The ones I'm using have USB2, and I have no free USB3's on the computer. That's why I suggested getting the caddy, and then adding a drive to it, the ones I got have a button, not that I bother switching them off, it really is easy to put a drive in them, and to format them, in fact Windows normally offers to format new drives anyway. Okay, in that case have a look at these, the caddy has a button for on/off as well:The ones I'm using have USB2, and I have no free USB3's on the computer.
Someone on the BB forum has suggested a powered USB hub - sounds like a fairly simple solution. Both my current ext. drives are mains powered/USB2, so until both got replaced, I'd still need to keep one set up as it is.
It's not the small cost - I do prefer to switch off what is not in use, especially something used only weekly or monthly, and I don't want to be pulling leads out every time I've used one.@Pictor there's almost no reason to
Turn drives off now with modern power saving technology powering the drive 24/7 would
Cost less than a pound a month and he mean time between failure of modern drives is amazing.
I appreciate your thoughts - I just want to keep it simple. I use Macrium to do a full back up weekly, and a calendar pop-up reminds me to switch on the drive ..and that's all I need to do apart from delete the oldest backup before switching the drive off.I use western digital red drives at my house specifically meant for 24/7 use as well as optimized for other things like sequential read and writes commonly used with backup technology. That said most drives are great. Avoid seagate 3tb drives and never buy two drives at the same time from The same Place - lest a production batch have issues.
Just a couple thoughts as I implement large scale backup strategy for creative media companies as a part of my living.
