The new subox mini doesn't like to work in TC mode. I kept getting 9.9 ohms on the display so I had to go back to using kanthal in the normal mode.
9.9 ohms means there is a contact problem or problem with the coil probably the coil

It's an Nvidia GeForce GT640.
Son called in earlier. I don't have an image of them, but there's a small M HDMI socket next to the one currently in use, and there isn't a cable included to fit that! It's either get the right cable or a new card ...opted to get the cable by the time he's back (he's away for 2 days now).
Bit fed up at not being able to set the new monitor up and see if it's as good as I'm hoping, as I need it to get some work & photo editing done.
This is it:

Just checked the specs for that card and you are better off using the mHDMI port, on a lot of cards DVI-D is usually better than HDMI, but not on your card.
On my Radeon HD7900 I only have DVI-D and Display Port, so I use the DVI-D with the Sammy.

That's good to hear, thanks! - son got called away while he was here (he was working), so just found one on Amazon and said to order it.
All these various ports are not something I fully understand ..it's something that doesn't really interest me, so not something I've sought to understand  - me and TV or video don't mix! All I need to know is if the picture/image quality is good!

A year since you got your new one!

My computer is coming up to 5 years old, but according to their chap who did a bit of clearing on the SSD via remote 'visit' last week, it's in good shape, and there's lots of space on the two 1TB drives.
He said they'll do a collect/return if I want to upgrade the SSD to a larger capacity, and they'll most likely be able to copy the current one over ..apparently they get a good success rate ...so if I do opt for that at some point (when can I ever happily be without it though?!!!) I'll get an upgrade on the video card too - unless this new monitor needs one now (4K but should be OK), and I'll have to order one!

Is that all, it seems longer  recently I had a problem with one of my backup drives kept losing it's connection (eSATA caddy) it had a USB2 connector as well, but that was no good for the 4TB drive, so I invested in a couple of £20 USB3 external caddies instead - swapped the Hard Drives over and working a charm now.

Keep wondering whether to get a larger SSD, mine is only 120GB, but it still has 40 free as all my Data is stored on a couple of 1TB HDDs anyway

Yes, you got it 13th Jan 2015! I know because I'd just done a search to see if I'd mentioned which monitor I decided to get now, and I'd spoken about a Viewsonic I used to have in a reply to your mention of the new Samsung :)

I've never been inclined to poke around inside my computer ...find it alarming when my son does it, but I shouldn't worry!

Mine is 120GB too, and has the O/s on it along with some programmes etc. that refuse to install anywhere else. It has 24.5 free since it was tidied up last week. It had been dropping as low as 10.4 then going back up to 15 again.
Been told not to let it get much lower than 15 if possible. That's when it would definitely need a new, bigger one.
On one of the other drives, I have all my documents and any programmes that will happily install on it. The other drive is where I keep all my images ...many thousands of them. Those drives have a huge amount of space left on them.

I do have a decent notebook computer that Chillblast also made for me, but I'm not keen on using it unless absolutely necessary. I need a large pro level screen, and like a proper keyboard and mouse! :)

I keep a back up of the files for my website on an external drive 'just in case' (as well as a full weekly back up on another drive), and that drive has begun clicking a little, so I need to get a replacement and copy the files over.
It's a Samsung Story and easy to use (no longer made). My other one is a LaCie Poulsen 1TB one, and that ones still seems fine.
Not sure what to get to replace the Samsung one. Opinions vary on the drive manufacturers, and I believe this one is Seagate.

A lady after my own heart :) I do the same with some programs, as for backups I have four main external drives for those - 2 connected by USB which hold the latest backups (full at the 1st of the month) then a differential which is run 07:00 daily afterwards using Macrium Reflect, these are then copied later in the day to 2 big Net drives (2x2TB HDDs in each) connected by Ethernet which hold about 2 months worth and are in a RAID configuration (means if one drive fails, I can replace it and it will reassemble the files and carry on). I have tried various different types, at the moment I have a 2xSamsung Spinpoints in one and a Seagate Barracuda Green & Western Digital Caviar in the other, the 2 USB ones are a Seagate Barracuda 2TB & Hitachi HGST Deskstar 7200, I also have one of the latter inside the Computer, and find them the best so far, being 7200rpm they are faster than the others which are mainly 5400rpm and they are also 4TB, but that means they have to be used with either eSATA or USB3 as normal USB2 will only cope with upto 2TB, it was that one that kept dropping out on eSATA and why I changed it over to a USB3 caddy.

I'm assuming the Story is a pre-built external USB drive, I find those expensive and just buy a caddy and a loose HDD, they are easy to fit together & normally works out cheaper, and that way if the drive fails, you only need to replace the HDD not the whole thing (you (your son) might even be able to do that with the Story)

I do a full back up with Macrium every week - that's on the LaCie Poulton 1TB drive ...they don't do those any more. Think it's a Porsche design now. I only want a 1TB for my other drive, but they only come in 2.5inch versions. EDIT: Hadn't realised, but the ones linked below are all 2.5inch!

I think I prefer the ready to use drives - no hassle. I like them pre-formatted too. 'Plug n play' is what I like

I've seen these, and for the price, they look pretty decent ..just not sure which. I replace them every few years.

Samsung M3 1 TB USB 3.0 Slimline Portable Hard Drive - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

WD 1 TB USB 3.0 My Passport Ultra Premium Portable External Hard Drive - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

No sign of my FT order moving, so looks like it will be 19th before the two delayed items are in stock. No matter, nothing I'm waiting for.

I've had problems in the past with both Seagate & WD, so my preference would be the Samsung, I was going to get one of that type a few years back, but ended up going for Adata instead

All 3 of my main orders are waiting for stuff and not scheduled to complete until 23/02 now

The Samsung has a Seagate drive ...the warranty and registration is done with them.
Was hoping to see one with on/off button or switch, but there doesn't seem to be any 1TB ones now! The LaCie has reviews that say it has, and that it hasn't ..so not sure.
Both the ones I use at the moment have on/off switches.

There may be little chance of things being in stock early seeing China has been on holiday! :)
Sill, if you're like me, nothing is urgent.

I've got a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB and it's so easy to use and I've never had any problems with it.

I made a real nice custard juice which I let it steep for a month but can I find the recipe?. Of course not lol.

I made 4 different lots, one with 5% water, one with 5% vodka and one with 10% water and another one with 10% vodka.

The ones with 10% water and vodka were definitely better than the 5% ones.

I watched a YouTube video by PBusardo and he said the same thing but I tried it with the Treebox and it was fine.
okay could be the 510 pin on the Subox, if it is a fixed pin it may need lifting up slightly using a paperclip, if it is a screw type then it may need screwing out just a touch (normally but not always reverse threaded so clockwise to bring it up) and if it is sprung loaded, it may have got some juice in it & stuck down a bit, try cleaning it with a cotton bud and some alcohol (vodka will do) seeing as it works okay with Kanthal - Nickel is a bit more fussy on good connections

The new Subox is spring loaded and I've seen quite a few people have the same problem as me.
Thanks for the tips :)

Anyone else get a new Tracking number for their batteries ? I did, and it`s a shipping company named Direct Link
View attachment 531210
Yes they have started doing that with stuff via Sweden, would be better if they waited until they got the correct tracking number before they say it has shipped instead of putting Q and XX around the numbered part, Direct Link is just an arm of PostNord Sweden

Ok, I've just replaced my battery in my 75W Subox and when I switched it on it went straight into TC mode and in the corner it said Ni.

I had some Ni and kanthal coils made up from 2 differemy people from another forum so on Saturday I screwed a couple in and wicked them ready to use so either my Subox doesn't work properly or I've mixed up the coils.
I don't think I've mixed them up as before I replaced the battery I had it on 12W in the normal mode

Some mods will automatically go to the default settings, rather than use the last setting. Usual way to tell difference between Kanthal and Nickel build is to check the resistance and/or number of coils, resistance is usually much lower for Nickel or will have more coils
