Just realised that I can re-play that! Just seen the relevant section.WOW!!!! This is really worth listening to - Parliamentlive.tv
Very good to listen to (From approx. 16.40 to 17.43, so not too long to watch/listen, and very informative).
The sad thing is that this was not in parliament itself, but better than nothing ..although one member did sadly state that it was unlikely that government would watch/listen, far less take any notice of what was said!
I do agree with the thoughts in this that the term 'e-cigarette' were undoubtedly the worst term that could have been applied to these items, although no-one in the beginning could have possibly foreseen the reason.
VapingDevice is definitely a less antagonistic name to give them. Perhaps a drive should begin to change the name of such equipment.
Nice to hear the guarded comments that money and BP/BT had an influence!
Interesting to hear that although direct advertising will be banned, there is apparently no restriction on suppliers communicating with their customers! Also, a drive for public information on 'vaping devices' is advised.
Another aspect was that forums and blogs would not be banned either!
Both these snippets of info are good to hear!
Whilst I sympathise with the member (Earl Cathcart I believe) who will not be able to continue with his 2.4mg (and others like him), I'm thinking he'll find 2.0mg just as effective seeing he stopped smoking some 2 years ago.
So far, nothing definite about tax specifically, and apart from VAT, most seem to think that sufficient ...something we'll have to wait and see.
It was really good to see what we've long suspected: many members of the house of Lords, and probably the whole of government establishments, use this method to stop smoking.
Incredible though, in light of this, that this legislation has met with any approval at all.
