Well the Lords debate was interesting - the outcome however was far from it - the discontents won on the amendment, and Callanan was forced to withdraw - looks like we are stuck with this insidious piece of EU crap until Art. 50 is invoked and the 2 years are up, then we might be able to do something about it.

If anyone want to listen to the debate they are most welcome, it was posted live on VTTV and it starts at 43 minutes in and goes on for about 1 hour, the video should start at 43 minutes:

Don't hold back, Bob - tell us what you think. :)
Don't I always  Art 20 was composed on the backs of the Pharmaceutical & Big tobacco companies so that they could price the smaller companies out of business, I have always been against big business generally, you only have to look at our high streets to see the effect that Super/Hypermarkets have done to them

I honestly don't see what their problem is - this is something any commercial interests could benefit from in some way.
Pharmaceutical and tobacco giants could have embraced the whole thing from the start - in fact, if they had, what we now use could be looking far different ...so not necessarily to our advantage, but no-one can say they didn't look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth!

I absolutely detest the way big business and union power can so change the face of government. Neither should be allowed to have any influence. Once more, money talks!

Yep MONEY! - they wanted to take control of the whole thing, they have the money behind them to pay for any controls put in place, if they had had it all their own way the restrictions would have been worse, but with the TPD they will be able to drive out the small businesses, only the larger ones that can afford the licences/testing will be able to stay. Must admit that listening to the debate, I was surprised that vaping is banned in S. America, mainly down to the Tobacco companies (I knew about the court action in Uruguay? who tried to ban cigarettes completely)

Banning cigarettes (burning tobacco and paper) would be no bad thing. I've always been one of those who say adult people make adult choices, but tobacco is a bad bugga - not sure what room there is for it in the 21st century.
Totally agree, but BT has big pockets to fight any such notions, especially from small hard up countries that couldn't afford to be bankrupted by a long drawn out court case in a US court.

The nastiest thing is the way that they target countries "on-the-way-up". They can just about afford the fags (at the prices they are being given now) and they are aspirational. This is the last thing that should happen to them.

Been a rough couple of days with Sophie - she had breathing problems which were likely to be heart or lung related, and recurrence of a kidney infection, on top of which she started realising that there were pills in the various 'treats' we gave her, and trusted nothing we gave her.
We had an appointment with the vet this evening, so seeing she was still bright & happy otherwise, left it until then.

Vet found that the breathing problem was down to it having spread to her lungs, and he could offer a drug to help for a short while or call it a day. We'd already half suspected that, so that was enough for us to let her go.
All very peaceful, and I sat on the floor talking to her positively throughout. So sad, but at least we kept our feelings under wraps until it was over.
It's felt like a long haul since we found out in March, but we made the most of every day with her.

Big presence missing in the house tonight - she was a big dog with a big heart.

Oh @Pictor I'm so sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you
Thanks so much Bob - you've been in my thoughts in recent times too. Hope you're doing fine!
Life does feel cruel at times.

I've been staying up extra late with her these past few months, so much sleep debt, and I had been told not to burn the candle at both ends. I reckon I'll start catching up on sleep now ...and hopefully my work too once we get over today better.

It`s so hard to find the correct words Trisha ! But I feel your loss and am so so sorry. The best we can hope for is that they are all bounding about and having great fun over the Rainbow Bridge. :)

I'm fine, still haven't managed to take the cards down yet, or the clothes round to Scope though

EDIT: Fred decided I had to get up at 6.40 this morning, demanding to be let out, so only about 6 hours sleep

I'm so sorry to hear this. There's something about this year - my cat died, my neighbour's dog died, my electrician's dog died, my sister-in-law's guinea pig died. You did a very kind thing by preventing future suffering.

Have you considered an electric cat door? Then Fred could let himself out.

Be a waste of money for the few years he has left, and I won't be getting another, normally he stays out all night at this time of year, so not a problem, and as he wakes up with the daylight winter time is never a problem

Thanks Terry - as you know only too well, even though we know it's coming, that 24 hours before you suspect or know it'll happen is a long drag, and so very hard at the end.
Until Saturday, it had been hard to stop her bounding around on that weakened leg, but once it affected her breathing she slowed rapidly. At least we found that fine line between quality of life and distress for her just as you did with your girl.
I talked to her about going back to the sea, and coffee & chips (a rare treat for her), and bid her goodnight as I always had done. Hopefully, safe with her head in my arms, she was content to drift off.

I'm fine, still haven't managed to take the cards down yet, or the clothes round to Scope though
I can identify with that very well - the day my Dad had the stroke 12 years ago, I brought his clothes home, washed and folded them and they're still in a spare room upstairs where I put them in the hope I'd need to take them back for his return home.

I hoped rather optimistically for 8 hours, but likely only got about 5 ..hard to fall asleep, and the slightest sound when my husband got up woke me again, including the little one barking. She really missed her big pal this morning.

Thank you - the reassurance is welcome. Even our vet thanked us afterwards for being so kind to her rather than try to carry on for another few days or a week.
Not good when we get a run of unhappy things - I can't even tell my close friend yet (the lady that bred our little one, and owner of Sophie's cousin) because she buried her husband on Monday.
One of our sons has been working at a radio/tv station to fill in for an ex-colleague whose sister is terminally ill with the same thing that took that sons closest friend and also colleague late last year. Sometimes, the world is a really dismal place.
