Here's the official info on that:

"FDA is announcing a public workshop to gather scientific information and stimulate discussion among scientists about electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). The focus of this workshop will be product science (specifically device designs and characteristics, and e-liquid and aerosol constituents), product packaging, constituent labeling, and environmental impact."

Again, the Zeller theory: the individual vs. the collective... where the 'collective' wins. (even though the 'collective' only consists of individuals.)

"FDA intends to follow this workshop with two additional electronic cigarette workshops, with one on individual health effects and one on population health effects."

CASAA, Bill G., Siegel, et. al. - hope they attend and hope they're allowed to attend.

Thanks OP. The Desk Murders are at it again!!!

Seems to me and I'm obviously seriously biased /lol that the core mission of the FDA should be public health which takes a back seat to their twisted desire to legislate the "details" out of vaping. Pick pick pick and forgret Public Health. Cart before the horse!

The first workshop details: A Public Workshop – Electronic Cigarettes and the Public Health

Repeating what Kent said can you guess what's last on the list:

FDA intends to follow this workshop with two additional electronic cigarette workshops, with one on individual health effects and one on population health effects.

Exactly. Just in case there are some who don't get the Zeller reference:

For Zeller, there are also two groups - the smaller group of 'hard core smokers' (where ecigs would be beneficial for them) [individuals], and 'smokers who would quit', but dual use would continue the addiction and deter any reason to quit.

From HELP:
"But our job as the regulator is to figure out what is going on at the population level and it includes the much larger group [collective] of smokers not like the first group I defined, a much larger group of smokers who are concerned about their health and who are interested in quitting and what happens instead of those people completely substituting with a non-combustible product, they start using both, and then along the way they wind up becoming less interested in quitting. So then we would say that might not be good for public health, and our job is to figure out what is the net of all of those possible behaviors including any initiation which would not be good for public health and then try to make public policy on top of that."

Stanton A. Glantz, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, said the study’s limitation was that it tried to measure the effect of e-cigarette use only among smokers who were trying hard to quit, not all smokers.

How does one go about getting a List of Presenters for this FDA Workshop?

They're currently soliciting applications for presenters and panelists.

But also note that "FDA Invites Public Comments on E-Cigarettes and the Public Health" and vapers in the greater DC area should make an effort to attend. There will also be an announcement about submitting public written comments, which ALL 6 million vapers in the US should submit.

On another note, I really hope objective and ethical researchers genuinely interested in public health will participate either in person or via the web. Among them, I'd really like to see Drs. Farsalinos, Hajek, West, Phillips, Siegel, Rodu, Nitzkin, Burstyn and Mr. Bates, Godshall.

Stan Glantz trying to lecture other people about flawed methodology? Now I've really heard it all.

This is interesting. If you wish to watch the live webcast or attend in person as an observer you must go here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CTP-December-Workshop

I did this and the final screen displayed said this and bolded by me:

To submit nominations for presenters or panelists, please email the following information to workshop.CTPOS@fda.hhs.gov no later than November 4, 2014:

For Presenters:

• A brief abstract for each presentation. The abstract should identify the specific topic(s) to be addressed and the amount of time requested.
• A one-page biosketch that describes and supports the speaker’s scientific expertise on the specific topic(s) being presented, nature of the individual’s experience and research in the scientific field, positions held, and any program development activities.

For Panelists:

• A one-page biosketch that describes and supports the speaker’s scientific expertise on the specific topic(s) being presented, nature of the individual’s experience and research in the scientific field, positions held, and any program development activities.

Presenters and panelists will be selected and invited to participate based on their availability and scientific background.

So if we know someone on "our side" would like to talk then we may be able to enhance the chances of selection by the Desk Murders with a few thousand "nominations".

EDIT: You can also "subscribe" to the Federal Register for email notify when new stuff gets released. You Join, then click back from the email. The email has instructions on how to use a search term to get notification. I used "Electronic Cigarettes"

So I guess the term "public" in this instance means "not government (but still scientists)," and not, you know, *us.*

God forbid they should hold a workshop in which they'd have to listen to, you know, *us.*

Yes, they've specified whom they want to hear from: "Scientific and medical experts; other interested participants from academia, public health organizations, federal, state and local government agencies; the tobacco industry; and other interested stakeholders."

I doubt the people at ProVape consider themselves members of the "tobacco industry."

Of course Dr. Burstyn's perspective would be most welcome. He should be within driving distance from FDA HQ.

However, I'd be weary of financial contributions from vapers or pro-vaping organizations to any speakers, because they may be used to paint them in a negative light as a perceived COI.

Sigh..... I probably shouldn't comment.... so perhaps CASAA or AEMSA shouldn't attend?? Almost all you listed are supported (including with funds) from "vapers or pro-vaping organizations".

FDA's already decided that e-cigs are tobacco products. Therefore, everyone who makes e-cigs is part of the "tobacco industry." Therefore, if somebody from Njoy, or ProVape, or V2, or Halo, et al gives a presentation at the workshop, you can bet the farm the media accounts are going to refer to them as "tobacco industry spokesmen."
