Delaware, Ohio,
We are facing a revenue issue wrapped in Public Health clothing. We have all heard about the long term health costs associated with smoking, yet the practice continues. As it should, we as American citizens, have the freedom to choose.
The reason is that the FDA, WHOSE POWER CONTINUES UNCHECKED, IS ATTEMPTING TO ARREST A MASSIVE REVENUE DRAIN.
The generation of incremental Federal Tax Revenues are more apparent when one does the math. As the article points out, there are approximately 8 million smokers in the United States. The Federal Excise Tax per pack of cigarettes is $1.01. At an average of 1 pack per day, this represents an ongoing Federal revenue stream of approximately 240 Mil per month. Add to that the State Excise tax. For example, Ohio is currently $1.25 p/pack and New York State is $4.25 p/pack. Anyone wonder why New York has banned the sale of E-Cigarettes in their State? Yes, I agree, if we as FREE AMERICANS, want to exercise those rights, we will notify our elected officials and stop this.

I might be incorrect, but I don't believe that NY State has yet passed a law banning the sale of electronic cigarettes. I know that they are attempting to pass such a ban, but as far as I was aware they haven't been successful yet.

Of course NY wants e-cigs out. NYC smokes are over $15/pack on average. Near $10/pack average here in Rochester (with certain common brands over $15/pack). They generate $4.35 in tax revenue per pack. Wasn't all that long ago when the mafias would hit businesses up for 50% in extortion money. Guess our government is capable of learning after all.

Didn't realize NY is up to 4.35$ in taxes on analogs... that is insane... should be illegal to tax something that much... if you ask me...

No wonder they are trying to ban PVs.

stupid worthless officials... wish one of us had enough power to actually see something getting done.

some one has to have connections in the media be it local or national... something needs to be done about this.

Very true. Unfortunately, most addicts will pay whatever the price. And government knows this...
Same goes for fuel (just paid $3.50/gal for gas last week or...$86 to fill my truck). Over $50 in "delivery fees" for my natural gas ($182 total). This crap is getting out of control.

Dear _____

Please tell the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to stop wasting taxpayer money on their attempts to ban electronic cigarettes as "unapproved drug-delivery devices." Two levels of the U.S. federal court system have told the FDA they cannot seize incoming shipments and that they should be regulating the products under the tobacco Act. Yet the FDA persists in wasting our tax dollars on filing more appeals. They also continue to seize incoming shipments in defiance of the court orders. That costs money, too.

I have tried eight times over the course of my eighteen years of smoking to stop. I have tried going cold turkey, nicotine gum, Chantix, nicotine patches three times, and hypnosis twice. None of these methods has been effective for me.

Last July, my wife and I switched to electronic cigarettes. It has been easy to stay away from traditional cigarettes and their toxic chemicals by using electronic cigarettes. We regained our senses of taste and smell and our cardiovascular health has improved immensely. We no longer cough all day long and have not gotten sick once during this flu and cold season, whereas we were constantly getting sick in past years due to the detrimental effects of traditional cigarettes on our immune systems. Without our electronic cigarettes, I know we would go back to traditional cigarettes and see our health decline again.

The American Association of Public Health Physicians has stated that products like the electronic cigarette could save the lives of 4 million of the 8 million U.S. smokers who would otherwise die of smoking related disease within the next 20 years. The FDA is supposed to helps save lives. Please don't allow them to kill smokers. Contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Excellent letter! Maybe because I can relate to all that you wrote. I would just add 2 attempts with the laser method/therapy.....

After 7 unsuccessful visits to hypnotists, I managed to cut back significantly on my own. Then I went to the hypnotist to "do away" with cigarettes. I came out and smoked 3 packs the next day.

Blood pressure/heart rate down significantly!

Immune disorder of over 25 years finally showing strong signs of clearing up in less than a month!!!

Mouth, gums, tongue changing back to pink!

Sorry. I'm sure much of this has been mentioned a billion times. Just very tough to contain my excitement !!

Plus it is a bump!

Just printed the letters to Alabama Senators and my congress person. They'll go out in tomorrow's mail. I added a reference list- just in case any of them decide that they might want more information, or have an aide that they want to put to work.
