Please see the campaign section we can still expose the FDA and awaken even more to the truth -- if we throw in our towels now we are lost -- I say we don't go down without a fight lets continue to stand united and push against the propaganda with truth -- email the NEWS stations and tell them the DATA the FDA ommitted from their findings that all BRT's derived from tobacco can contain those trace elements and do.

Vapers fight for your rights don't lie down and take it.

The reason is because most voters are non smokers and who doesn't want to select a group that is not their own to pay their taxes for them?

This is why I was bringing up the second-hand smoke factor. Which has been so successfully ignored. I DO care about those around me. I feel that this topic has been successfully ignored by both vapors and the FDA. Why do we seem to care less about those that we are endangering by smoking analogs? Do they not care...

...do you not care???

I am suddenly caught here.

The composition of mine is very similar.

No Diethylene Glycol there.

My liquid is Quality Controlled and all pre manufactured ingredients are also Quality Controlled before acceptance. This is bogus.

The control was the Nicotrol Inhaler. So to me they used a non-tobacco cessation product against a tobacco non-cessation product. An analog as the control would have made more sense.

Is everybody saying, "Oh no. If they ban these I'm going to have to go back to using the inhaler/gum/patch/lozenge."

Not how I've been reading things, but who knows.

The funny thing about the Nicotrol Inhaler is that it tested positive for: Myosmine and β-nicotyrine which the report declared to be: "Tobacco-specific impurities suspected of being harmful to humans".

E-cig- bad with these impurities, Nicotrol Inhaler- acceptable. 8-o

You built atomizers?????????
My learnung curve included frying 2 atomizers within a week. I dismantled them ordered supplies and began testing different coil and wick combinations along with different configurations of metal mesh and coil placement. My best performer so far is one layer of mesh against the ceramic cup then several layers of tin foil to fit the sleve. It has two coils wrapped around zippo wick material. 6 drops of liquid gives me about one cigarette worth of drags and heavy fog. The thicker the liquid the better. I will be able to vape from now on wheter it is legal or not.

I have it performing just like my old tobacco pipe without the need to keep lighting it. And it smokes just like a pipe.

somewhere out there......
Cotinine, Anabasine, Myosmine, and nicotyrine....these are minor alkaloids in relation of nicotine...from what I gather they work with the nicotine addiction. Furthermore last time I checked caffeine is also an alkaloid. The only difference is nicotine is a lot harder to quit and its purest form it is a true killer.
The Europeans were swayed by the American Indian culture that told of tobacco being used as a curative for mental and physical afflictions and when the herb was first introduced in Europe, it was touted as a miracle cure for all manner of ailments, from sexually transmitted diseases to flatulence.

In England and France, tobacco was seen as an elitist priviledge with popular mythology relating the tale of Sir Walter Raleigh convincing even the Queen to partake in smoking.

In the 16th century the French Ambassador to Portugal, Jean Nicot, introduced the queen consort and regent of France, Catherine de Medicis, to tobacco, prompting historians to name the genus 'nicotiana' - and hence nicotine - after him......jeesh today he would have be shot down by the FDA.

Well HockerMagnum.. If a ban does arise I am sure many of us will happily nominate you for the Nobel Peace Prize. The first homemade atomizer is definitely a feat in itself.
As for all this FDA bull. They don't have the argument. If we aswell as NJOY (f u SE) play our cards right by spreading word and showing the FDA's shallow case against ecigs it should be easy. Hell I've seen more than enough great arguments from this board alone within what the past 6-8 hours. Crazy.
But its our fight more than theirs so we HAVE to step up and spread the truths about ecigs. These fights can't be fought by themselves.

I'm sure this was allready posted, but I didn't want to read 23 pages, sorry. Even if DEG was in every batch, how serious would this be, really? All the info I could find made this sound like a very low-risk, low toxicity substance?

Also, I don't really give a rat's behind if it's also in antifreeze - that is the worst kind of scare tactic to associate one ingredient with a conglomerate that, as a whole, is quite toxic. How many toxic substances have water in them? should we then infer that every substance containing water is toxic? That's ludicrous!

Overall what the FDA did with this is to PROVE that E-Cigs are 1000 times less harmful than analogs - The amounts they found are barely worth mentioning - That's why the actual data is in the footnotes and not in the main body of the findings - I love the part where they say New Zealand's tests do not matter because they were not done in the "real world" - Do they think that NZ is in FACT somewhere in Middle Earth?

Stand up, or lie down and die.

All the talk is going to do us no good whatsoever.
Spend your energy on fighting rather than venting.

Ask the Electronic Cigarette Association (ECA) what you can do.
And then just ****ing do it.

Website: Donate To The ECA | Electronic Cigarette Association

I've looked around, but I haven't seen the ECA since this fiasco started today. Am I looking in the wrong place? Some one point me in the right direction please.

    Thanks

OK, I was not home earlier, but now I am, and have had a chance to let this all settle. There are a lot of things that I could say here, but I'm just going to put out the facts.

    Regarding Diethylene Glycol:

Looking at the Health New Zealand study1, the presence of Diethylene Glycol was not tested for. They seem to have based their tests on manufacturer ingredient lists and known tobacco carcinogens.
So what is Diethylene Glycol? The MSDS2 shows that chronic exposure to Diethylene Glycol can cause lesions on the liver and kidneys, as well as damage to the same organs. In the case of inhalation, the only first aid recommended is removal from the source to fresh air. The toxicalogical information is as follows:

Oral rat LD50: 12565 mg/kg. Skin rabbit LD50: 11.89 g/kg Irritation: eye rabbit, standard Draize: 50 mg mild. Investigated as a tumorigen and reproductive effector.
    --------\Cancer Lists\------------------------------------------------------
    ---NTP Carcinogen---
    Ingredient Known Anticipated IARC Category
    ------------------------------------ ----- ----------- -------------
Diethylene Glycol (111-46-6) No No None

This shows that Diethylene Glycol is not a known carcinogen, nor is it expected to be found as one in the future. In addition, the dose required to kill half of the sample of rats tested is 12.565 g/kg and 11.89 g/kg for rabbits. Assuming this can be extended to humans, an average adult male would have to ingest 855.925 g to receive a lethal dose.
Is Diethylene Glycol the main ingredient in antifreeze? The EPA3 has this to say about antifreeze variations:

Antifreeze typically contains ethylene glycol as its active ingredient, but some manufacturers market propylene glycol-based antifreeze, which is less toxic to humans and pets. The acute, or short-term, toxicity of propylene glycol, especially in humans, is substantially lower than that of ethylene glycol. Regardless of which active ingredient the spent antifreeze contains, heavy metals contaminate the antifreeze during service. When contaminated, particularly with lead, used antifreeze can be considered hazardous and should be reused, recycled, or disposed of properly.

Ethylene Glycol is the main ingredient in antifreeze. While straight antifreeze is toxic, the main hazard is from used antifreeze, which absorbs heavy metals.

What about Nitrosamines? Nitrosamines are carcinogens. Tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) are found in the liquid used by Ruyan in their cartridges. According to the Health New Zealand report1, the amount increases with the amount of nicotine, and the average is 3.928 Ng (or parts per billion [ppb]). The breakdown is as follows:

    Nitrosamines
    0mg - 0.260 Ng (ppb)
    6mg - 3.068 Ng
    11mg - 4.200 Ng
    16mg - 8.183 Ng

The highest amount found was in 16mg liquid, which had an average of 8.183 Ng. In comparison, Nicorette Gum (which is approved as an NRT) contains about 8 Ng. To put that number into perspective, Swedish moist snuff contains between 1000 and 2400 ppb nitrosamines, and unburned tobacco from cigarettes contains around 1230 ppb.

    Good point, for now.

I hope they are taking their time and measuring their response.
Because we need someone to lead, or no one will follow.

You are absolutely 100% right if not 110%.....................I just wish common sense played even a 10% role in politics.

I hope we can get enough e-smokers and money to fight the fight. There are just too many vapors that don't have the guts to love and fight for what we are doing.........

i know that Leo Dicaprio is a vaper. maybe he could fund our whole campaign. anyone know him?? this is funny to me. i live in CA, and the gov't is about to legalize marijuana. period. not just as medical MJ, across the board. the state is completely broke, and they need tax money. i think they know how much they could rake in legalizing MJ here and just taxing the **** out of it.

and the federal gov't has nothing more to worry about than banning a healthier (as far as i'm concerned. my only e-cig broke, went back to analogs for the last 2 days, and now i'm sick. just got a Janty MF and feel better already) alternative to analogs. it's just silly to me. it's worse than the latest tobacco bill that our prez signed. it bans light cigs, all fruit flavored cigs, dip, and cigars. it's completely reaching beyond the scope of gov't if you ask me. and i lean to the left. it's just pissing me off what this gov't is telling us we CAN'T do.

    let's hope for the best..............mc
