We need to be careful we don't get so worked up about this that it raises our blood pressure and we have a heart attack. The medical community would then blame it on ecigs and the many years of smoking we did.

If there is grant money out there for non profits, why couldn't our CASAA scientist contacts also apply for that money? I admit I don't know all that would be involved in it, but it's just a thought.

Why not also establish non profit orgs for spreading the word on THR? It would guarantee an income flow each year and obviously there's millions of dollars available. Again, just a thought.

I agree; let's not panic :p

I'm trying to sort out which projects are relevant to us, but this could take some time. Then I want to cross-reference those projects with the assessment of scientists from Bill (many thanks!) to see what results we might expect, with a grain of salt.

I just don't have the time, today or tomorrow :(

As for "regulatory science", I don't have a problem with this description; I take it as "light science", or a simpler way to evaluate the effects of nicotine, without a 20 year research effort, which isn't practical.

Here's hoping, now that there's lots of money behind it, that we can give relevant people a chance to learn the truth.

Hopefully this will spur BT into research action... they're the only ones with enough money to do refuting research for later court battles. Well, actually, I'm sure they knew this was coming and it already has.

Why on earth would they do that?

Regulations in this case HELP Big Tobacco... by regulating their competition(high end APV's, from small manufacturers and eliquid, not in pre-filled carts) out of business due to expensive and burdensome regulatory hurdles (something BT has the money and experience to handle)

Good god... so they basically just funded a Multi-Million Dollar Propaganda campaign...
and dressed it up as scientific "Research", conducted by 3rd parties.

Not only that, but they also basically created the "science" and the "research centers"!
Academia: the fourth branch of government.

Historic moment ...
Those wishing to impose their will, and products, on citizens
now has a branch of government as a partner ... Academia.
Academia research results is now officially available to the highest bidder.

You can bet your bottom dollar ...
We will see this new branch of government involved in other areas
of our lives than tobacco, e-cigarettes, and harm reduction.

By the way ...
I'm not going to panic over something that I can't do anything about.
I'm also not going to even think about contacting elected officials
because they've been bought and paid for ... long ago.

As far as our movement is concerned ...
I personally wish the FDA would announce their proposed demon regulations
so we all can start to deal with it including options and work-a-rounds.

I'm tired of waiting for the FDA's big announcement
on their plan to protect us from ourselves.

Because... I suspect... they saw this coming and know they won't be able to fight the new "research findings" on smokes that will change (somehow) existing or already in-place regs that work in their business favor. I may be a dreamer but it is possible that's why they've gone the route of ecigs rather than solely nefarious reasons. I've never completely bought the conspiracy idea that they got in the ecig business to keep people smoking. With that in view, of course, they would be gearing up to refute "research" findings against ecigs. One can hope can't they? Its better for my health to do so. ;-)

Edit: I said a while back that the more ads we saw for ecigs on TV, the more likely something would happen to get them blocked from advertising the same way tobacco and alcohol ads have been banned/controlled. So there is a lot more to this FDA move than just banning ecigs entirely. BT and BA lost the war on advertising. I see this, in part, as a CYA move to satisfy nanny-staters and ANTZ and the usual "let's do a study" UNLESS they come out with bans pending a 5-year study which seems highly unlikely.

All their studies so far have been debunked, or clarified with proper data crunching.
The Drexel study, really pushed them over the edge didn't it.

They do come up with creative "issues" such as the tightness of a draw producing more harmful a because we suck harder. This is extremely laughable, yet, we have to spend money to disprove their theory. Drinking out of straws hasn't drowned anyone yet, but it hasn't been proven in a study.

We need to do some serious fund raising! They will be making us prove the silliest of things, which dwindles what little funds we do have.

I'm not going to panic yet. But I am going to search real estate in Germany. :)

The owners of this country will do as they please
and ride the high wave till the dollar crashes.
They already made their exit plans and many have chosen Germany.
However, they do know Germany won't put up with any of their "monkey bull-:censored: "

Not sure I'd choose Germany; the EU can still mess with them.
I'd rather buy an island in international waters. Vapers welcome. BYOJ.

Federal support also will help develop the next generation of researchers with expertise in tobacco-related cardiovascular medicine and policy.

That means they are going to be teaching the same stuff too.

Several months ago I spotted a research study for Rice Univ (TX) that sounded like someone was actually interested in ecigs - then halfway into the article, I read that results were being compared to non-smokers only. They offered some rational about comparing with smokers will be later, not set up for it, etc.

So in other words, another useless study. Sorry, but I can't find the link now.

This also indicates that there have been plenty of back door deals made with the FDA before now.

Would you mind telling us where you live? I've been wondering for quite some time.

Your answer is multiple choice (select just one):

1. I could tell you, but then I'd have to do to you what we agents do....

2. I'd tell you, but the NSA might be listening...

3. I often ask myself the same thing...

4. Dontcha just love a mystery?

5. A proud citizen of the Republic of Vaporia.

The media won't do anything ... It's science.
The FDA has that base covered also.
:(

I have to admit ... Their battle plan is BRILLIANT
Why wouldn't it be brilliant?

They have brilliant people working for them.
They have the money on their side.
They have everything.

All we have is our stories of life and death and struggle.
We need to tell our stories, to everyone, as often as we possibly can.
