I'm a college student and I feel really weird vaping next to people who smoke cigarettes. I kinda hate it when people confront me and sometimes been told "Those things are stupid and they taste like ....", "I'd rather smoke real cigarettes" and these comments actually did occur and nowadays I just goto my car and secretly vape just so I won't get confronted about it.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

So Cal
initially some of my co workers offered unsolicited and dismissive comments regarding my decision to start vaping and quit smoking. fast forward a couple of months the same individuals are now scratching their heads. i can see questions on their faces, yet not one has swallowed their pride and approached to inquire as to how they might reduce their risks regarding smoking by vaping. to be perfectly frank, i really could care less what others may think( i may be a little older than you). if you are content vaping then that is all that matters.
Good luck and be your own person!

It does feel a little awkward using an e cig in public the first few days just like how I felt back when I started smoking but I haven't had any one confront me about the e cig even though I use it inside malls. My wife's family and relatives were really curious the first time they saw me use it and they think it's a great device. Don't let ignorant people drive you to quit using your PV.

Ive never been confronted about my vaping and aside from my boyfriend and a couple I once saw at a restaurant, I seem to be the only vaper for miles.
I vape everywhere.
I think the "secret" is to not care. Just own that you vape and let the rest of the world slide on by. Anothers misconceptions or judgments are not your problem.
You like what you do. They are the only one's who have to live with their thoughts on the subject. So what if they dont think well of vaping? It wont change how you feel just because someone out there is walking around grumbling to themselves about vaping.

When your confidence is up no one is going to mess with you about it. Just chill. stop looking over your shoulder for the next ill comment. if someone does comment - just ignore them. its not your responsibility to change their minds. you can try if you want to but there is no harm in letting them walk away ignorant.

It's weird and exciting at the same time! Some of my friends that are still on analogs are curious about my contraption and they want to try it, of course with the squishy-face of disapproval after a pull lol  But I don't mind, just hoping that it will catch on. Vaping is such a wonderful alternative, and if I can introduce someone and just plant that seed...maybe they will drop the cigs and pick up a pv. So yes it feels weird, but I'm going to continue. Weird has always been a specialty of mine anywho. :2cool:

I used to be a stealth vaper and hide the fact I was vaping like a dirty little secret.

Then one day I must of had 10 people ask me what I was doing. As I was explaining I could see their eyes light up and this wave of euphoria sweep over them.
I knew at that point I shouldn't be embarrassed about vaping and be proud about it.
I now vape happily in public and if I do get snotty remarks I always point out that tobacco smoking is for dumb people in world. Why would you kill yourself smoking when vaping is the way forward. It usually stops the big headed, smart .... people who think they know best.

Being accepted by peers is important when you're in college. I was there once (well, several times actually).
I think the best way to combat that secret vaping habit is to get something really cool that they will admire. I got a man a skull drip tip. He is a biker, so this made his PV look cool for him. I got a female a pretty copper enamel scrolled Ego battery with matching cone.
Get something really cool for yourself & everyone will be impressed with your device. LOL
BTW. Good decision to vape instead of smoking.

I concur Bullette, the same friends who sour-pussed after one pull off my pv have since started to warm up to the concept after seeing how cutsie-wootsie and blingified they can be!

I've gotten strange looks from people out in public before, but no one has ever approached me. The only people who give me a hard time ( more joking around than malicious ) are my in-laws. Thus far they've only seen me with a Riva/carto set-up. I'm can't wait to show up with a mod on Christmas....going to get a fancy drip tip and a big, colored carto tank to go with it. Should lead to an interesting conversation, lol. :2cool: The Riva comments varied from " Smoking your lipstick tube again? " to " Taking another hit of *insert illicit substance here* ? ". It'll be funny to see my father-in-law's reaction to a giant chrome device. Would be nice if I could get them to switch from cigs, though.

Vaping as if it were somehow illicit or illegal will never get the vaping community widely noticed. Vape loud and proud 'cause you're the one who smartened up and ditched the tobacco sticks.

That's right! Ignore anyone who tells you it's stupid ect. How is smoking a cigarette the smart thing to do?!

Bottom line is that you quit cigarettes because your future health is important to you and your loved ones. The general public has a lot of false assumptions and biases that are not based on truth. Vaping is no more harmful than consuming coffee with caffeine, another stimulant like nicotine.

Just today there was an entertainment segment on a couple of television shows of a "new" device that produces a vapor that has different food flavors that people can "taste" by inhaling with glass straws. Everyone was have a great old time trying to guess the different flavors. Now, how is that different than the water vapor that e-cigs produce?
