I am vaping a month now, I am happy that I have quit the analogues however I have found a few issues.

Firstly the entire family has all developed a cough, sure its the winter etc but it only started a month ago, the same time I started vaping in the house, So I am once again banished to the back garden to see if vaping is the cause.

I've noticed myself wheezy and croaky, even more so now with vaping than when I was smoking.

When I smoked since the smoking ban I've had to smoke outside, I find with vaping even if you do it outside in a public place you get even dirtier looks, I think people see my big clunky mega tornado with a cartomiser as some kind of pot smoking device, but then I still get the same looks with a small titan, so when out and about I am confined to toilets to vape.

Anyone else encountered these issues? I have absolutely no desire to ever smoke again, I like vaping, but it seems it has even more issues than smoking analogues.

I don't think the coughs of the rest of the family are due to your vaping. I can vape sitting next to my very asthmatic sister and she has no reaction to it at all, and she has reactions to the smallest irritants.

As for you being croaky, drink lots of water. Vaping dehydrates you. If I'm not drinking enough my throat get seriously dry and I'll end up coughing or with a sore, scratchy throat.

Some people will always look at you funny because they don't know what you are doing. I really don't think you should hide, it just makes you look and feel guilty. I vape anywhere smoking is allowed and in some places it's not(be courteous and ask 1st). I keep my PV around my neck all the time, so everyone gets to see it even when I'm not using it. It gives them a chance to ask what it is.

I say be proud of what your doing! You just gave up the hardest drug there is...thats HUGE! Vaping is just how you get your nicotine and your pv is just a nicotine delievery device. You gave up the harmful (4000 btw) chemicals that can cause horrible fates. I dont think their coughs are due to the vaping. Its very easy to blame vaping on anything "new" thats going on, even the vapor tends to do that at first. In my opinon you should not be outside vaping as if you were smoking, but thats up to you. I get funny looks too but thats because people just dont no what your tootin on. :2c:

I say ROCK YOUR VAPE!! Its a good thing and you should be proud!! Big congrats on your month analog free!!!!!:D

I think it extremely unlikely that your family's coughs has anything to do with the vapor from your ecigs. I am asthmatic and have a weak chest. I very seldom get flu without it affecting my chest and if I'm not very very careful every cold turns into something really bad. However, this winter I have noticed a massive difference in lung capacity (usually my asthma is worse in winter) and my breathing is much better. No hacking or coughing either. For a while after quitting analogs for good, (a few months ago) things didn't seem to be improving at first, maybe it was my lungs ridding themselves of the build up of tar, but now I am great!
I agree with DeviantDe, drink lots of fluids. Oh and I also have my PV on a lanyard... I also don't hide or sneak it as that is what makes people suspicious. I act as though it is the most normal, usual thing in the world, and no one bothers me. I even vape my huge Provari with Map Tank in public. I also felt shy and embarrassed at first, but now I do what feels right for me.

Find what works for you and do NOT let others make you feel you are doing something wrong. Quitting smelly tobacco is the best thing you can do for yourself. Stand proud and vape on :D.

I think it's a coincidence that your family developed a cough when you started vaping. I was the only smoker in my household and when I started vaping I asked my partner who has never smoked, of my ecig bugged him and he said nope. He even let me vape next to him on the lounge and he said he couldn't smell anything and no one else I have asked has found it irritating. I hope your family allows you back inside you are not causing any harm xo

Last cigarette 16th October, 2011. Forever grateful for the support and advice from ECF.

One highlight from a previous poster i agree fully with. Dont HIDE it or Act Guilty!!! that automaticly makes people assume your up to something illegal. If your out and up front with it. you will still get curious looks but thats when you will actually have people come ask you what your doing. Some may even be bold enough to want to try it.

Hiding it certainly isn't a good thing IMHO. PVs and vaping are still very new. Most do not know what it is. If I talk to a smoker about it I generally refer to them as e cigs (easier for them to relate). If a non-smoker is curious about what I'm doing I'll refer to the device as a PV. A non-smoker will get a bad taste in their mouth real quick if you tell them it's an e cig. Thus far, I've had very good luck using these strategies.

My cat seems to be bothered by strong smells, and she has taken to sitting right next to me when I vape. If I would have a cigarette inside, she would run out of the room. She even gets upset with perfumes or cleaners, but she hasn't seemed to mind the pv. She's been my litmus test for the offensiveness of the vapor.

I would second the suggestion to drink lots of water. I tend to get a dry, croaky cough if I don't sip water pretty frequently. Here's hoping you're allowed back in from the garden soon!

For your own wheezing and/ or cough it could be:
too high a level of Nic. Could also been you're drawing too hard on the PV.
too much PG and/ or you have a sensitivity to PG. This has been observed by others. You could try upping your VG level but then the juice becomes too thick. You could try thinning the juice with PGA, distilled water or vodka.
It could also be caused by a certain flavor. I had canker and cough issues with Watermelon. I stopped using it and these problems immediately went away. I gave it to a friend who has no issues with it.
Dehydration: I drink 2 large glasses of water first thing in the a.m. and 2 liters of water per day. If I forget to drink water I immediately have issues. Realize the vapor does not come from the juice but our bodies. The PG traps moisture from the mouth and throat area. This was confirmed by my Nose Surgeon.
Your family may also be sensitive to PG.
I have a friend that began vaping 6 weeks ago and his Mother, who lives with him, immediately began coughing. It didn't matter if he was vaping in a closed door room. He finally announced that he would no longer vape in his house. Mother immediately stopped coughing. As a test he began vaping indoors again without his Mother knowing. No coughing issues at all. He could only surmise that his Mother's coughing was psychological. He stealth vapes indoors now and, to this day, his Mother has no coughing issues.
As for yourself getting weird and dirty looks most people don't know about Ecigs. When I get that kind of look I strive to educate the person. After explaining the device I've always gotten great feedback especially from those who have a friend or family member who's a smoker. You are doing for yourself and if people can't understand the benefits than that's their problem. From the sounds of it you have successfully walked away from analogs and you should be very proud of yourself and walk with head held high.
40 yrs ago if you went to a Chiropractor for relief/ treatment you were looked at oddly. 15 yrs ago if you sought out an acupuncturist for treatment you were looked at oddly. That has all changed with these 2 treatments finally being recognized by the Medical Community. I believe it will be the same with the Ecig movement. We are at the forefront of a new and highly successful treatment for our addiction to analogs and sometimes with new frontiers there's a price to pay. My Doctor, Dentist and Nose Surgeon all fully endorse vaping and encourage me to vape in their office in the hope other clients with analog addiction will seek out relief via the Ecig.
Good Luck, Vapoor.

I had a slight sore throat and some very minor coughing for about 2 weeks. Then I started drinking more water. No more issues. That was 8 months ago today. I can tell a huge difference in my health even in this short span of time. Do not give up! My non smoking family has had no issues with my vaping and yes...I vape in the house. Good luck!

It is very doubtful that your family is reacting to the ecig. Both the PG and VG are common household chemicals. You can find them in so much stuff it will blow your mind.

However it is quite likely they are effecting you. Pg is the likeliest of culprits. Some people are right out allergic to it, But that is still pretty rare. However PG does indeed have a drying affect on your throat. If the PG level is to high it will suck the moisture level outta your throat and leave it sore.

Look for a juice that has a higher VG level. Now as to stares from others, well let em stare. Maybe ones a smoker and will ask you what your doing :) Most people stare because they are wondering what your smoking lol At the end of the day its really not about anyone else but you. Your free of the analogs thats whats important.

I've never gotten the dirty looks. I mostly vape outside where the other smokers are and they want to ask about it and whether its working for me. Even when I vape in a restaurant people are curious rather than hostile. On a couple of trans-pacific flights I vaped very descretely, blowing the vapor into my shirt, because the airlines don't want you to use PVs. Probably to keep the smokers from rioting because they can't get their nicotine fix.

I also have the sore throat issue, although if I stabilize long enough on one flavor/nic level it lessens.
