Front page of the Orange County Register today:

E-cigarette industry fumes over report - The Orange County Register

Fair and balanced. :D

Great article! I love seeing others who are in position to help spread positive stories and actually educate consumers do their job. Everyone make sure to share these articles with everyone you know whenever you are reading them and together we will be able to get our point across that e-cigarettes are not as evil as they are being made out to be by mainstream media who's pockets are lined by Big Pharma.

If you need some more things to counter the sensationalist fearmongering in the National Enquirer... uhm.. the NYT ( ), here are some decent articles on the subject:

1. by several medical doctors / 7 Feb 2014
(medical doctors, and not engineers turned Public Health Industry spokesmen ... )

Canada: Opinion: It’s time to authorize the sale of electronic cigarettes

- There is a moral obligation to provide / not deny the less harmful substitute to smokers.

(background re "provide": e-cig liquid with nicotine is banned in Canada)

Why Is The FDA Shielding Smokers From The Good News About E-Cigarettes?

Astoundingly, this nascent public-health miracle has been met with something between derision and hysteria by anti-tobacco groups worldwide: globally, the WHO, health-oriented NGOs, the British regulator MHRA, and many nations are sparing no effort to discourage smokers from trying them, employing misleading (even false) alerts and dire website warnings, phony surveys, and exaggerated concerns about youth being led astray. Unfortunately, and embarrassingly for science-based public health policy, our FDA and CDC have been willingly complicit in this widespread disinformation campaign. Meanwhile they purposely ignore studies that indicate the benefit of e-cigarettes for helping smokers quit. I ask, “How could this be?”

The possible explanations are not pretty: willful ignorance, dogma based on experiences garnered in the 20th century, or greed.

....
This is what medical doctors say. Medical doctors who care about patients, who care about human beings.

This is what those say who have at heart the best interest of human beings.

Unlike those who care only about their own pocketbooks and their own cushy jobs as parasites in society, living off taxpayers money, creating no value whatsoever for that money, misusing taxpayers money to fund "studies" whose results they then misinterpret in order to spread scaremongering and propaganda. And who now actually do harm to precisely those taxpayers whose money they syphon off for their own purposes.

Frightening current smokers away from switching to e-cigs will serve to ensure precisely those "premature deaths" that the tobacco Control Industry always mentions when spreading their "quit or die" propaganda.

And yes, when I say "parasites" I mean "parasites".
Parasitism is a non-mutual symbiotic relationship between species, where one species, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host.

.. And anybody countering the fearmongering propaganda is more than welcome to use my "parasites" rhetoric. Together with the Wiki definition.

Unfortunately Anja, that describes 75% of our news agencies here in the US. The other 25% are for the most part, uninformed on the subject of e-cigs.

I'm sure by now everyone has had a chance to read the crap that was reported by the NY Times today. I get so tired of seeing media abuse their power to report misleading stories. It is irresponsible reporting and we should not just lay down and take it. I just finished writing a news article ripping the NY Times article apart and would like to get some feedback on it if possible: E-Cigarette industry being unfairly attacked over availability of E-Liquid - Knoxville Business | Examiner.com

Excellent rebuttal, dear!

Tons of toxic nicotine is out there — care in handling is required. Meanwhile, keep on vaping!

Good reading, all of them.
And good "replies" to stupidos who parrot the fearmongering.
Been feeding them to the Tobacco Free Big Pharma Shills... uhm... Kids... on Twitter :D

Excellent article, Jeff!

The majority of calls that were made to poison control centers were related to children under the age of 5 which points out the real problem we have in America. People are not keeping harmful substances out of reach of their children.

Yes. YES! YESSS!!!!
Oh, did I mention that I fully agree? :)

[OT]
The first time that I noticed people trying to put the blame for injured children on anyone and anything but their parents was in the 1980s.
There was an article in the Stars & Stripes (overseas US Army newspaper) about children who had been playing unsupervised (!) in a dumpster (!). One of those children found discarded pills (medication) in that dumpster and ate them. Got sick and was taken to the hospital. The article ended with the statement that the police are now looking for the person who threw those pills into the trash, in order to hold them responsible. (!)

- I was like "What the heck??? Are they serious? They want to hold the person resposible who threw pills into their own trash? Which was then put into the dumpster? Instead of holding the parents responsible who let their children play unsupervised (!) in a dumpster (!) ??? What if it had been broken glass?"
Thankfully, I was not alone in my WTH thinking. There was an outcry in the letters to the editor, saying just exactly WHO was responsible, for not supervising their own children. - The Stars & Stripes took up the story again, made no mention of people having to child-proof their own trash to protect other people's unsupervised children, and ended with the appeal to please supervise one's children.

- Well, that was in the 1980s. I wonder what the story would be like today.
Be that as it may, the responsibility for keeping children safe lies with the parents. And no amount of nonsense can change that.
