Gutfeld on Fox's RedEye went against the 'story' with how many things in a house can be dangerous and how it's the parent's responsibility, etc. etc. Andy Levy brought up how he 'didn't know it could be absorbed through the skin' and how that may be a factor. Greg responded 'well, that's how patches work' lol... Pretty much discounted all the buzz on it. Greg said a '300% increase from 2012 to 2013 - that just means there were 2 in 2012 and 6 in 2013' :)

So the 'line of the week' last few weeks was 'gateway'. This week 'poison'. Anyone want to predict what will be next? There was one 'heart incident' - perhaps more of that.....??? Impotence? brain cancer? incontinence? Causes conspiracy theories?

Gutfeld sometimes goes overboard but I do like that he takes up for vapers.
Be sure to watch the whole video because they do bring up some interesting points:

It is funny how they balk about how toxic it is through the skin, I wonder if they realize that Nicotiana sp. are toxic to exposed skin as well. Are the plants going to be illegal to grow like several others. I -like several others in here have stated- used to read the NYTimes, but I may have changed my opinion of them more than the "grain of salt" mentality.
I enjoyed your rebuttal and hope that it sees some good circulation. You might want to author an addendum with more verifiable information from scholarly journals and studies. I know there are few on vaping, but there are many on nicotine as a chemical and a lot of that can be extrapolated to e-cigarettes. The complete lack of evidence in the NYTimes article makes it easy to tear apart and let's not forget how they said that all injuries mentioned were due to irresponsible adults and not the item itself.

Careful now. If you point out lack of personal responsibility, someone will get offended. And we know that's even worse than their child getting a dose of poison...

I'm sure by now everyone has had a chance to read the crap that was reported by the NY Times today. I get so tired of seeing media abuse their power to report misleading stories. It is irresponsible reporting and we should not just lay down and take it. I just finished writing a news article ripping the NY Times article apart and would like to get some feedback on it if possible: E-Cigarette industry being unfairly attacked over availability of E-Liquid - Knoxville Business | Examiner.com

Thank you for your article in rebuttal to the NY Times "hack" article. One additional point that I would have added on the ridiculous claim about flavors in e-liquid used to attract minors, is that nicotine gum comes in mint and fruit flavors as well. Yet you never see these "nanny-state" writers attacking flavored nicotine gum for some reason. The NY Times writer is nothing more than a hypocrite and fear mongerer.

"Scare of the week"...

Inspired by your post Kent, I've incorporated the concept into my facebook forwards of these positive response articles.

Along the lines of ... Last week it was "gateway" & "Children", this week it's poison

An attempt to make people aware of the new pattern of weekly releases, and new fear-mongering.

Use their predictable study-of-the-week campaign to help people start to question the credibility of the sources & motivation

Aww now come on, The "Nanny State" only wants what's good for you and I. While drinking liquor that our taxes paid for, and writing superficial legislation, they always have our best interests at heart! They want us to be healthy, (and broke) because every one of them has lobbyist that they feel should line their pockets at our expense. Unfortunately, The New York Times and anything to do with NBC, CBS, CNN, even the Washington Post all have their political agendas. It's up to the informed citizens to filter all the bull out.

If everyone who reads this thread lets someone else know or puts it out on Facebook or Twitter maybe it could go viral?

Get involved or you're basically part of the oppression!

THANK YOU! :) That's the point. People see these types of articles floating around where people are taking the time out to take up for vapers and they say things like one person said, "Good story, but it's going to stay in Knoxville where it was written" But it doesn't have to! Is everyone reading this thread in Knoxville, TN? No! We are from all over the country and we all have our own circles. If we share this article and others like it with the people in our circles then our side of the story becomes just as important as the NY Times side. The only reason that hack job story that was written by Matt Richtel went viral is because the opponents of e-cigs shared it! Do the same with every news article you see where someone is sticking up for vaping and our stories will start to matter.

Yeah, I got a call last week from a drummer I worked with 10 years ago who'd been seeing me share vaping stuff on Facebook. His wife was e-cig curious, so we talked for about an hour about pros and cons and suggestions for a first setup.

This has happened on several occasions. As long as we're all willing to be ambassadors and/or evangelists for vaping there is hope.

Now if we could only get Jeff a Pulitzer.

HaHa! Much appreciated but not necessary. I'm just standing up for what is right and what I believe. I feel too often in America people just stand around and watch stuff happen and don't do anything about it. If we continue to stand around and do nothing, then we are letting them win, and I for one, refuse to stand around and just let them win without at least putting up some kind of fight.

Echoing this, and what LDS714, WV and so many of us exhorting our fellow vapers to do: get involved , and engage your circle/sphere of influence1

Here is a Carl Phillips presentation that illustrates how vaping spreads & can reach a critical mass of use.
Cities as an incubator for tobacco harm reduction, a "social contagion" model

The timeline progressions (over his left shoulder) are good representations of what role we individuals (aka green dots ;)) play in spreading good & proper knowledge & information to counter the FUD.

You are right on point! I will have to check out that video later on today. Thanks!
