Not all PV (Personal vaporizer) devices are created equally.

There are many variances in cart size, atty size, atty temperature, atty voltage & curent, etc, etc.

I have found that ALL types of Poly-Fil work very well IF PROPERLY STUFFED/PACKED into the cart. It won't work well if/when excessively compressed but it can't be too loose either. There is a bit of an art to stuffing carts correctly and that changes when you change the type or style of cart stuffing material. Varied material density means you must vary how much to stuff the cart with. The plain 16 Ounce bag of Poly-Fil works EXTREMELY WELL in my LARGE DSE601 epipe carts. The rolls of it made for baby cribs don't work nearly as well with my DSE601. The crib type poly-Fil must be carefully used. If you try to stuff too much into a cart, it will not wick very well at all. Cart stuffing can be a bit tricky, especially if you don't try stuffing at various compression levels. EACH STUFFING MATERIAL YOU TRY must be tested at various compression levels (or volume-per stuffing) in order to give each newly tested material a fair chance. Also, there are all different sizes of carts. There are attys that burn hotter than others. Not all the PV device components are created equally! What works great for one PV device may not be so geat for another.

I endeavor to find one material that works really well in ALL my PV devices, but I have my share of doubts on finding a universal material that gives high performance in ALL my PV devices. My present lineup of PV devices is as follows:

VX2 mini-cigs (several, using auto batts, manual batts + USB passthrough). These have some of the biggest carts to be found in a 'mini" (not pen style) ecig and they have a rather cool running atty which produces excellent vaping flavors.

QTY 3 >> RS-888 Mini Pipes (one converted for LG cell phone charger/ac adapter use, 5VDC @ 1 Amp.....THROAT HIT MONSTER!)

QTY 1 >> DSE601 epipe (soon to be 2, I LOVE my "DARTH VAPER")

If I may add:

if you mix your own juice- viscosity of your juice, temperature of the juice can be a factor in the flow rate out to the atty. Battery power, age of atty can really throw off your testing if you don't keep track of such things. Flooding an atty can mess up your testing too. I can always tell when my batt is about to crash, the low power won't boil the juice like it should.

OUTSTANDING observation!!!

yet another factor to consider while testing various cart stuffing materials. Perhaps soon we'll have all the answers to all the great mysteries of vaping! I am awaiting some DIY suppplies for mixing my own juices as well....can't wait!

As long as were on DIY juice variables and various cart stuffing materials, you might want to throw PTBs in the mix. (Lipton's Pyramid Tea Bags) At least for me they have a tendency to mesh well with most of my DIY liquids. :)

Are they inexpensive? One of my goals is to spend very minimal cash and be stocked with enough cart stuffings to last for a very long time. Seems like you would have to empty the tea out of the bag and discard (hence, wasting) the tea.....or do you dismantle the tea bags AFTER brewing/consuming the tea? Are these stuffings allowing you many refills or "top-offs"??? Longevity is always a good thing when it comes to cart stuffings.

Yes*, yes (most times, I do drink the tea), both (top up if you really vape a lot or feel you need too.), they are the single most longest lasting cartridge filler media I have ever run across. 'nuff said.

This is just IMHO...

*Decide for yourself... :)

OK, you have my word I'll definitely try the tea bags. You are one of many vapers who use them for cart stuffing, so it's only logical that I test them.

I sometimes tell my friends to get "tea bagged" when I disagree with them...it has become a term of endearment of sorts LOL

I'll have to get some of these particular Tea Bags the next time I go grocery shopping >> LIPTON'S PYRAMID TEA BAGS

Do you fold them?

Do you roll them?

Do you trim them?

What size/series of carts have you used them for so far?

I'm sure it will take more than one tea bag to stuff my HUGE DE601 epipe CARTS, or the big 801 pen series (BE112 type) carts in my 3 Mini Pipes. My VX2 (mini ecig) carts are pretty small, so I'm sure one tea bag will suffice for those (might even need trimming for those?).

Please give me all the juicy details so I can skip over most of the mundane experimentation and get to the good stuff much faster.

I agree that the density is a very important factor.
Not enough density leads to cart leaks and fluid in mouth.
Too much does not work either.
The problem with polyfill is that it works when it's newly installed, but when you have to fill up the second time, the polyfill is saturated and will not allow liquids to pass through it.
Moreover the liquids sort of caramelize the polyfill and it's hard to fill cart up a second time.
This is why we have found that reticulated foam works better because liquids pass through it multiple times...

I think it was forum member kenb54 who came up with this idea back in May.

Another member, Bama Vapor, posted an excellent video on using the Pyramid tea bag material as filler for carts. See post#165 of this thread:

e-cigarette-forum.com/
forum/tips-tricks/
18255-tea-bag-tea-filters-where-who-how-17.html

(sorry-- I'm not allowed to post URLs yet)

I tried it myself, and it works very well. My problem with the standard 510 carts was poor wicking action, letting the atomizer dry out after just a few puffs. The poly filler just didn't let the liquid flow quickly enough. I got tired of constantly pulling the cart off and topping up with just 2-3 drops.

With the PTB filler I now get at least twice the use time between top-ups and the cart accepts 5-6 drops of liquid. 100% improvement! :thumb:

I went to "BIG Y" supermarket, which is well stocked and very competitive with STOP & SHOP. I looked at ALL LIPTON OFFERINGS on the shelf and I saw nothing that said the word "PYRAMID". I noticed there were some boxes that made some reference to a "new look" (whatever that might mean). I just grabbed a big yellow & red 100 box of the LIPTON 100% Natural Tea. The box measures about 2.75" x 6.7" x 7.8"

These tea bags each have a STAPLE in them and I do not think they are the ones that I saw in the video.

Further clarification really would be a great thing right about now.

I just went hunting around this site for it and found it....yup....there is a very clear depiction of this new style tea bag right on the front of the box (looks just like a pyramid). Evidently my local BIG Y supermarket is not stocked with the latest & greatest after all! I'll try Stop & Shop in the next few days and I'll bet they will have the right ones. I think I'll get a box of the new pyramid GREEN TEA...that stuff is very good for you.

I used up about 1/3 of a 100 box.....brewed up a STRONG gallon batch of the regular Lipton's tonight. I added several interesting ingredients, including lowfat milk, vanilla flavoring, a touch of maple syrup (no straight sugar). It looks a lot like iced coffee and tastes pretty darn good. It's in the fridge in one of those heavy one gallon ARIZONA jugs. I made a mess on the top of my gas range! I have to take it all apart & clean up all the black grills and white metal parts now. I really miss having a woman around to do things like this WITHOUT making such a damn mess (couldn't find my funnel ANYWHERE) LOL. I wonder if I should bother to save the (30 or so) tea bags.....or just discard them and go buy the pyramid kind and start fresh?

where do you get lipton pyramid tea bags, are they just lipton brand from the grocery store, or do they say pyramid on them somewhere?

The box I have is from last year... Lipton may have changed the design by now. On the front it shows a picture of the tea bag with its pyramid shape. At the bottom of the box is printed "20 PYRAMID TEA BAGS."

Check the video showing how to roll and fold the emptied bag, it's quite helpful.

Good luck!

I am still struggling to find the right filler material and/or mod for my 801 carts. Perhaps it is my atomizers or who knows. I am beginning to get lost in it all!

So far I have tried polyfill, pyramid tea bags, large cell reticulated foam, napklins, paper towels, coffee filters, and a combination of the reticulated foam with a polyfill top. I've also tried polyfill with straw mod, spring mod, and a combination of the two.

So far the large cell reticulated foam is working best, however, after three uses the foam begins to soften to the point that it allows too much liquid to pass through. Perhaps this is the best that I'm going to find, but with so many people having luck with other fillers, and talking about drying out their carts, it makes me think there are better ways. I would really like to try the pyramid tea bags again, but in a larger media, the bag itself, when broken down just doesn't seem like it has enough filler material for the 801 cart, and I end up getting atomizer flood city!

I am so very close to becoming a dripper and just say the hell with the filler, but I don't wanna give up yet.

I've been dripping into my Prodigy 801 but now I'm going to give carts another try. I suggest using the gossamer from 2 pyramid tea bags and making 2 rolls of material to stuff the big 801 carts. I'll be experimenting with this during the coming weekend.

Actually I did try this, and it seems without the fold in the material at the bottom of the cart causes the PTB rolls to release the liquid too quickly. I may give it another try, but for now, I am using a single sheet of the material, rolled up, folded in half, then trimmed to where it is about 1mm below the rim of the cart. So far so good.
