Sorry if this is in the wrong place (not exactly e-cig news. . .), but the cashier at the Sheetz was teling me that all analogs would be "fire-safe" and packs marked with FSC by maybe April. She said many brands were FSC already and that they totally suck. Found a post here on the subject:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/5773-introduction-question.html

What is up with this? Not that too many members are interested in analogs anymore here. I feel like the last one to know anything, did everyone else know about this? What are they adding to make them flame ......ant or whatever? I heard no news. Is this about the dumbest thing you've ever heard?

Actually, the whole FSC thing is what got me interested in E-Cigs! I don't understand it and was quite angry about it. I'm glad I found E-cigs though, I was recently at a liquor store and my buddy bought a pack of name brand cigs and they were $5.99 BEFORE TAXES! Gotta love Uncle Sam! Making that money...

Yeah I live in Oklahoma where they phased this bull**** in w/ out telling anyone. They're utter crap, gave me headaches and have a coppery aftertaste.

I've driven to Arkansas a few times and gotten cartons of non FSC smokes since then and I can definatley tell the difference.

I also found a co. that ships cartons of non-FSC on the web.
Buy NON FSC Cigarettes: NON-FSC Cigarettes!, We Have NON FSC Cigs - Carolina Cartons

I'm still hoping to quit analogs entirely if I can find a decent enough e-cig to replicate the experience of smoking.

I'm amazed how this happened (the FSC revolution) without people knowing about it, I found one site that called FSCs "genocide" because of the extra chemicals. It's pretty weird. If there was an announcement of any sort, I missed it. Many cigs in my state are FSC, but we have not officially passed the legislation yet at the state level

Fire safe cigarettes are produced by adding bands of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) to the cigarette paper during manufacturing, in order to decrease burn rate at the bands.[23] The combustion toxicity of EVA has not been studied to any extent, but combustion byproducts are known to include carbon monoxide and "unknown hydrocarbons".[

Just more of the same bull**** backdoor legislation that our country loves so much. These fools demonize cigarettes, then they turn around and get in line for the tax money.

So now smokers get even more health problems so we could save a few junkies from nodding off and setting themselves on fire.

I must be living under a rock :| I've never heard of this.

I just bought a carton two days ago because my first order from Puresmoker wasn't here yet and I had run out. I kept thinking to myself there's something wrong with these things... much harder to draw, tastes very harsh (I smoke ultra lights) and they kept turning off at the exact same spot. Just spent 30 minutes saying to my husband that I couldn't wait for the e-cigs because either my brain had already switched over and convincing me that analogs were gross or there was something seriously disgusting about this new carton.

Logged in here to see what was new and I see this thread  Went to check the one pack that I had left from another carton that I started smoking last night because the others were giving me a stomach ache and no FS... so I look at the new carton and all say FS!!! Well, if I wasn't convinced yet that I definitely wanted to switch to ecigs this clinches it!! Yuk they're even more disgusting than before.

I can't wait to vape! :)

I'm amazed that people still don't know about this
It was passed into law last year in my state but, they started carrying them in at least 8-07

I have had PND as well as other problems since, again who cares about the health of smokers

Fire Safe Cigarettes :: Legislative updates :: Adoptions

I went to their "myths" page and apparently their idea of safety testing is to rely on old reports by a tobacco company done years ago, and a Harvard study done on an older version of a fire-safe cigarettes that basically said, "Cigarettes are toxic anyway. What's one more poison?" I sent them an email (publicaffairs@NFPA.org):

Three Questions:

1. What testing was performed to ensure that inhalation of combusted ethylene vinyl acetate is harmless?

2. What testing was performed on the smoke from treated Fire Safe Cigarettes to ensure that the addition of ethylene vinyl acetate does not bind with other chemicals in the tobacco to create additional toxic compounds?

3. What simulated smoking tests were performed on regular versus treated cigarettes to determine how much additional tar and carbon monoxide is delivered by puffing the FSC cigarette repeatedly to keep it lit, versus puffing a regular cigarette at the usual rate?

I have been reading that many people are experiencing nausea, sore throat, and other health problems. Hard to tell whether that is a reaction to the chemical itself, or whether the repeated puffing is causing more immediate negative health consequences than long-term smoking.

What's your theory?

Someone posted this link in a different thread.

Fire Safe Cigarettes: Chemicals Added To Traditional Cigarettes FSC

There are numerous comments left by people who are being made sick by this "new improved" cigarette.

I left this comment:

NEWS FLASH: Recent legislation puts the FDA in charge of tobacco now. I suggest that all of you report the adverse effects that the addition of the Fire Safe chemical has caused. Ask the FDA to order tobacco companies to stop using this chemical.

You might also point out that you are taking more puffs to try to keep your cigarette from going out, thereby taking in greater amounts of tar and carbon monoxide, greatly increasing your risk of lung damage and cardiovascular problems.

Here is reporting information: Reporting Serious Problems to FDA

Thank God I stopped smoking tobacco cigarettes before this crazy requirement took effect in my home state. I began using an electronic cigarette on 3/27/2009. I have no cravings for tobacco cigarettes. But since I am taking in adequate amounts of nicotine, I have no weight gain. My blood pressure has gone down, and the wheezing has gone away as well as the coughing up junk every morning.

Visit http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com for more information about these products.
