vaping without ECF is an iffy proposition. The knowledge to take it to the next level is found right here and will let you enjoy vaping to it's fullest.

Filling a carto is best done with a syringe or using the condom method. The filler has to be saturated the first time to prevent burning of the filler. Once it's burned, it's a throwaway. Filled properly, a carto is in the top 2 or three ways to enjoy vaping.

The eGo is a 3.4v device. To get good flavor you need low resistance coils. Boge 2.0 cartos are good. The Smoketech DCT dual coil tank is an excellent way to enjoy your eGo.

and most of the juices that I bought are pretty tasty now

I noticed that in the first couple of weeks my tastes for the juices would swing wildly - I would try a flavor one day and think it was gross or I couldn't taste it, and then try it a few days later and it would be my favorite flavor for a day or two. It's a great excuse to try a bunch of flavors :D

I went through a similar situation. I was trying to quit smoking cigarettes, and when I saw the e-cigs at the mall kiosk, it got me interested and I did some research online. Turns out, I can buy e-cigs cheaper online so I got myself a kit and some juices off the same site (think I had a DSE901). Turns out, the smoke is extremely harsh and the juices taste like crap. I found myself continuing to smoke cigarettes while I tinkered with the e-cig at home, occasionally smoking it to see if it's gotten any better. Eventually I gave up altogether.

THEN, a year or two later, I moved into a place where I couldn't smoke cigarettes indoors and it was kind of a pain to go outside everytime I wanted a cig, so I decided to try e-cigs again. This time I got a KR808D and discovered cartomizers. Still, I didn't really have a better experience.

This time I around, I've learned a lot more from reading this forum and think I'm starting to really figure out what I like. Still, it took a LONG time and a lot of continued effort of reading to get to this point.

Main things I've learned about what I like, and what you should try to figure out is (and this will take time):

-Delivery method. I've tried cartridges, cartomizers, dripping, and now clearomizers. I know I don't like cartridges (no one even uses this anymore right?), I don't like the taste of the poly filling in cartomizers nor topping off, and while I like the taste of dripping, it got too annoying to do it all the time. Now I'm gonna try out some Phoenix clearos...

-The amount of nic and vg/pg you need. I discovered that higher nic juices made me dizzy if I vaped it a lot and it was too much TH and uncomfortable to vape. I've also been getting high PG juices, I might try getting more VG in it to see if its better for me.

-The types of juices that you'll continue to vape. I bought so many juices that all tasted nothing like their description and it's really annoying. You need to shop around to find the right juice vendor for you. And also, properly steep them, it makes a WORLD of difference. I like to speed steep them on top of my router, as it gets kinda warm, and just shake them every hour. I've left them on there for several hours at a time once (forgot to take them off) and they were fine.

Good luck!

i was under the impression that Blu used a propritary carto and battery. i was told that Blu has reversed the polarity on the threads and center pin to disallow the user to use normal 510 batts and cartos with their propritary ones.

Welcome!

I sure hope you get over the learning curve and that e-cigs (or any solution) works for you. You sound motivated, and that's a good thing.

Harsh hits are often the result of poorly performing hardware. It doesn't vaporize the juice properly and you get that nasty harsh hit.

1) Make sure the voltage on the vv is high enough to vaporize the juice.
2) I'd recommend you purchase at least 1 atomizer so you can sample flavors and use it as a debugging tool for your setup.
3) There are a ton of threads on the different cartos, filling them, and use. Like mentioned above, burned filler = toss.
4) Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.....the batteries are fine. And they are vv. So you should be able to adjust them even if you switch to different atties/cartos.
5) Some cartos (like Blu) sold in retail shops and gas stations are 510 compatible. So you could always experiment with the pre-filled ones to see how it works.
6) Note the ohms rating of the atty/cartos when posting questions about them. However, since you're using vv you can adjust to whatever they are. I can't tell you how to do that without a multimeter, other than preferentially. I also don't have a eGo Twist so IDK how the dial is calibrated. But basically:
1.5 - 2.2 ohms = 3.7 volts or less.
2.3 - 2.7 ohms = 3.8 - 4.5 ish volts
2.8 - 3.2 ohms = around 5 volts

Good Luck!

The current flowing in the opposite direction through the coil has no effect, so if the threads match it is interchangable.

Now, mixing Blu batteries/chargers with typical 510 batteries/chargers will result in bad things happening. Cartos, no problem.

Wack, you can dilute your existing liquids with a 4:1 mixture of glycerine ("VG") and water; this will make them milder. Adding VG will help vapor production and many people are less sensitive to it.

The more nicotine, the harder the throat hit. I would recommend using 8-12mg strength liquids to start with.

Do you inhale directly into your lungs, or do you first draw the vapor (or smoke) into your mouth, then inhale it? Direct inhaling is much harsher... I smoked for over 40 years and the first time I tried direct-inhaling my ecig, while driving, I nearly wrecked my car!

Boge-type filler cartos-- I always fill a new one by injecting the liquid with a syringe. I can tell exactly how much liquid I'm adding and be sure that it's distributed evenly through the filler. I use a 1-mL syringe with a 14 gage needle. Slide the needle down between the filler and the inside of the carto tube, go all the way to the bottom then draw it back a few mm and begin slowly injecting. Draw the needle out slowly as you inject liquid. I inject 0.6 mL into one side of a standard length carto, refill the syringe and inject 0.6 mL into the other side. This over-fills it slightly, so I blow through the mouthpiece end to remove the 2-3 drops of excess liquid from the central tube. Last thing, wipe liquid off the connector end.

When you put the newly-filled carto on your battery, turn the voltage down low because the first few drags from a brand-new carto will be much harsher than one that's broken in. Take short puffs to start. If you get 'slurpy' sounds at first, you may need to blow more liquid out of the carto. After a short period of use you can turn up the voltage a bit. I try to use only as much voltage as it takes to get a good amount of vapor.

The eGo Twist is the perfect battery for a new user, IMO. You made a good choice.

i find it odd that you got more of a TH from direct inhaling. most people i talk to (myself included) find that direct inhaling offers les sof a TH than drawing into the mouth before breathing it in.

maybe it has to do with the fact that i always direct inhaled my cigs. i hadnt started mouth inhaling until i started vaping. i guess whichever one you did with cigs, youd want to do the opposite with for vaping. who knows, really.

a drip shield for your atty will help with the flooding.
and a drip tip (rotary drip tip is even better) will help with the hot juice splashes.

Just wanted to say that I did finally get the hang of it. It seems that it took some time for my throat to get used to it, now everything is much smoother and the taste came out, and most of the juices that I bought are pretty tasty now (not sure if this was due to steeping, the equipment being broken in, or just me getting used to it).

I did figure out that one of my stardusts were bad, or needs some adjustment. I put a juice in there that I like in another carto, and it was very harsh and didn't produce much vapor. I'm pretty sure that either the wick or coils need to be adjusted. I took apart the one that I was having trouble with, cleaned it out, and did a dry burn. I noticed that the coils were right next to each other, and were touching. From what I've read, this seems to be the cause of the dry hits. All the CE2's that I bought leaked horribly out of the bottom, and whenever I let them sit for awhile, the atty would be completely flooded, and would cause juice to go into my mouth, and sometimes fling hot burning juice onto my tongue. Definitely not impressed with these, although I've heard good things about them. Maybe I'll buy another batch from somewhere else in hopes that they will preform correctly.

Now that I've past my learning curve, I have to say that vaping is one of the least user friendly experiences I've ever encountered. I must have spent 2 weeks solid where all my free time went into reading about everything ecigs, and even then, once I finally got everything, I still had a hard time due to faulty equipment and just not knowing how to fill/use all the various types correctly. It's really a shame, considering that this is by far the best way to quit smoking. I'm sure there have been many newbies that have given up on vaping due to the same problems that I've experienced, or by buying those cheap starter kits that won't meet their needs due to lack of performance. A little bit of quality control and information would go a long way for the vaping world, Chinese manufacturers take note! I think that without a helpful community such as the people on these boards, the vaping world would be a lot smaller.

Thank you everyone for your help!

You might be on to something hear homes! I actually do both, but definitely get more th from mouth to throat first...man I hated typing that!

I've heard horror stories from vapers who have vaped for more than two or three years. Thank god for the innovations.

Wow! I missed your thread the first time around, but I am thrilled you found some traction, and are on your way. The path may be windy, and the learning curve steep, but it is definitely worth the prize. Kicking the vile cigarettes. My hat's off to you. Great job!

I'm new myself, but from what I've read, vaping has come a long way in a few short years and believe it or not quality control is vastly improved! lol

K... you may have already heard this, since I haven't read all the responses. But at first read... you just filled it wrong. lol Carto lovers will tell you a million ways to fill a carto, including dripping onto filler, syringe filling, condom filling. I'm a HUGE filler carto lover. Use both Boge 2.0ohm (that's their 'low resistance' version, but identical in every other way to what you have there, and I've also used this with a ton of Boge 3.0s) and Smoktech 1.7ohm, single coil cartos (often called Resurrector or Rejuvinator) which are also near identical to boge in construction. I've heard so many people complaining about burned taste in filler cartos, and I just shake my head when they're not open to advice, cause if you fill them properly, you shouldn't have any issues with burned flavor. Here's a video showing you EXACTLY how to fill properly, for the first time, a filler carto. After that first fill up, I just top it off every hour or two with 4-5 drops dripped right onto the top of the filler. You're aiming for the top filler to look like a 'slushy', but have no dry parts or air bubbles inside the filler, which is I'm guessing where you went wrong. If you fill with the Taryn Spin method the first time, and don't vape them dry... top off every few hours with a few drops... you'll never ever get a burned taste, and your carto will last for AGES. I literally don't remember the last time I had a filler carto 'die' on me. Eventually I pull them out of rotation and clean them (with the baking soda, white vinegar method, often followed by a short soak in some water w a few tablespoons of lemon juice, then rinsed like crazy, and using the revers taryn spin to get excess water out before they dry). Now initially, you won't wanna mess with cleaning, probably, and you really won't have to. If you use the method for filling properly the first time, and keep them good and slushy, you'll be good to go for at least a month to a month and a half each. I get slightly less time before mine need cleaning, but I use much thicker 100% VG juice. I wouldn't throw them away when they feel cloggy or like you're getting less flavor, though. I'd put condoms back on em and toss em in a box to be cleaned someday. So I promise.. if you fill it exactly like this (usually takes about 3 spinning cycles to get it totally filled, from the bottom of the filler all the way up), then you'll have long life and perfect performance out of your boge. And also, next time you get cartos, I'd get either the Boge 2.0s, or the 1.7ohm resurrectors by smoktech (both can be had cheaply in 5 or 15 packs at Crystal Clear Vaping)... that will vastly improve your flavor and throat hit. You don't want to vape a 1.7ohm carto higher than say 4.4volts or so, but I don't think the twist goes up much higher than that, anyway. Also, I make a small adjustment to the bag that they show you how to make in video for spinning. First, instead of a long piece of wire or a long string for spinning, I just make a small loop out of 2 zipties, and put it thru the holes in the baggie before I close the last two ziptie ends to complete the loop. This makes a tiny little loop that you can just twirl around your finger, rather than doing that big death defying rodeo maneuver they do with the long lasso spin. ;) I also cover my baggies with duct tape, so they last a lot longer. That way I only need to make a new bag once every 6 mos or so. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. I also have a vaping for beginners guide that walks you thru a bunch of this, step by step, so i can give you the link to download that if you'd like.
