ive been looking on fast tech and they got some killer prices. i would like to go with the k100 for obvious reasons, but when it comes to the rba (rda or whatever) im a little lost. ive watched TONS of youtube videos on how to build and i'd like to give it a go. i saw a pretty sexy trident on there $16.35 Trident 24K Gold Plated Rebuildable Atomizer at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping and i think it would look good up top of a black k100. i saw some nimbus clones too but idk what to get that will be user friendly. im trying for big vapor and good flavor.

any tips/links for a first timer?

I use RDA to stand for rebuild-able dripping atomizer or RBA for basic other rebuild-able atomizers.

As stated above me use that other forum.

I just posted in another thread here on a similar subject so I will just quote what I stated there. Obviously there is MUCH more you can learn about it from other's more knowledgeable than myself in the subject as well. Youtube is also your friend in gaining more knowledge on this subject.

You have made a wise choice. Once I started dripping all my other atty's took a rest. As far as battery life goes it depends on the ohms and amount of use.

As far as dripping w/ RDA's goes.

For a starter just go to fasttech and get your self a good quality clone mech(chi you clone, k100 ect...), RDA (trident clone), a few 18650's, a good fast charger, some silica, ecowool, or cotton for the wick (Silica and Ecowool are easier to start with, a roll of 28 and 30 gauge Kanthal and you should be good to start. You will also need a butane torch of some sort a cheap jet butane refillable lighter can also work all the way up to a fancy 50 dollar torch. Personally I just use a bernzomatic mini torch which is hand held and refillable.

For understanding more about coils, how to build them, ohms ect I'd check out the Rebuildable Atomizer section and go from there. As a basic rule of thumb the lower the gauge of the kanthal the lower the resistance or ohms. The higher the gauge of the kanthal the thinner the wire and higher the resistance/ohms. Lower ohms drains more amps from your battery but many like it due to the vapor production it can produce. Keep in mind though there are also 1.5ohm microcoil builds doing some amazing vaping as well so really you just need to tinker w/ it to find your sweet spot. I also advised the trident clone due to you not having to drill out the air holes as its adjustable on airholes.

Also another rule of thumb. A dual coil will effectively half your ohm's as in a single coil at 1 ohm in dual coil will get you around .5 ohms.

I started on cartos and used the pro-tanks ect as well as genesis and prefer dripping over all the others.

Just to let you know, you don't have to have a mech to go down the RBA / RDA route. I use an Igo L with dual coils on my Vamo perfectly well. But if you want a mech, the most important thing is having a way to check the ohms of any coil you build and battery safety. You need to read up on this before you start.

So after you have read up on safety, the K100 is a great first mech. For the price it is great value from fasttech for around $20. I have one and it works very well. The finish is very durable and it's well made (the threads are the best I have seen from a Chinese clone)

If you are looking at getting a RDA, the IGO-L is an excellent first choice. It has a lot of room on the deck for rebuilding and has a big drip cup so if you drip a few drops too many, it won't matter. Fasttech have them for around $8.

If you want to get into dripping for even less money, just pick up a standard or low resistance 510 atomizer from any vape store. They run around $5 and can last weeks (or even months) with some care. Dripping offers excellent flavor and vapor - although some find it a pain as they have to drip every few vapes, most others find the whole ritual quite relaxing.

Personally, I don't get why mechanical mods are always associated with RBAs/RDAs. Moreover, with newbies and rebuildables, it really is best to start out with a VV/VW APV that will tell you the resistance of your atomizer. They have more protection and are more convenient for someone that is just starting out. Even if you plan on going into the whole super low resistance category (subohm), it really is not wise to build your first coil that way.

Most VV/VW APVs will fire atomizers that are 1.3 ohms or more. So even if you build something that is 1.8 ohms, it is still going to fire on your device. Plus, the device won't fire if there is a short and has other safe guards to prevent anything catastrophic from happening with your batteries.

im looking into getting into a mechanical mod also. currently using the MVP with a pro tank 2. but im not getting enough vapor out of it with a 50/50 juice. i feel i need to vape CONSTANLY when getting weak pulls from this device. but when i use my friends mech mod w/ RBA i only need it once in a while. plus i really like the whole process of building and tinkering with coils and dripping all the time. very relaxing and i really like the limitless options. however i just dont know what i need to start.

ended up passing on the k100, did a little more research and discovered the pins are steel. i ended up going with https://www.fasttech.com/p/1398603 because it has brass pins. i learned different mods will have different metals used and will fluctuate the voltage drop. different mods will have different resistances. i paired it with the igo w. i plan on eventually going dual coil and the igo has the choice to run single or double coil. i heard the connectors for the coil were better. i plan on drilling it out some as i lower my resistance ( maybe get into the sub ohm stuff eventually) i knew i was going there one day so i needed batteries to keep up. i went with the MNKE's and got 2 of them for 33$ shipped. call it overkill, i call it being ready lol. i did the math and i could technically build a dual .4 coil (.2) and those batteries wouldnt get hot. they have 20a max cont discharge. i think for my first rig i should be okay. i'll eventually get into some better mods with silver pins and things of that sort but for now im happy. my fasttech order shipped out today.

How long approx will it take to get here (california) via USPS First Class w/DC??
