Thanks everyone for your help...I did find the right section for this question . As a almost 2 pack a day smoker (down to only a few a day now) I have to keep myself entertained. As i have a few regulated devices I was looking into something different. I'm going to stay away from the mech mods. Im not in this to look cool or act like I know everything there is to know about vaping, just trying to kick a old bad habbit.

Mechs are great if you are into vaping as a hobby. Fine-tuning your vape on a mech will definitely give you something to do with your hands to keep your mind off the analogs, but it's not something everyone enjoys. I like the reliability and form factor of mechs, and the way they feel in my hand. They don't break when you drop them and some of them are actual works of art. They aren't for everybody, but I personally think everyone should have one and know how to use it safely. If the FDA vapeocalypse does happen, having a mech or 2 will keep you vaping happily for a long time after your regulated mods go kaput.

I personally think everyone should learn Ohm'sLaw/Power Law, battery safety and proper use of mech mods. I also think everyone should own a minimum of one (although do the research before you begin using it).

We don't know what's coming down the pike in the US. The EU members will be facing restrictions as well. It doesn't hurt to have mods that don't have electronics and are easy to repair.

I know absolutely NOTHING about Mech Mods or about all the necessary mechanical & electric rules needed to use one...and to be perfectly honest I really dont wanna learn...BUT ...I have purchased One Mech mod which I didnt even open and keep in the back of my closet with other "vape stock" just in case....

I bought it in case things ever went really AWRY..... due to future regs...not necessarily even next year with the EU TPD but maybe in later years when other, even stricter, crazy-er legislation could possibly be implemented ????
(... sure hope not and dont really think things will get that bad but....;) ????? )

If it ever comes to that, I will start seriously studying all i need to know about MECH mods....and at least Ill be sure to have something to vape with!
= I refuse to be "forced" to go back to smoking !

(before that of course my 3 Provari P3's and two Provape Radius's will also have to have hopelessly died ;) !)

I'm following this thread with great interest ( btw I too still have my Zippo - never used anything else since 1974!) as if as it seems likely the EEC bans just about everything I will have to go back to basics, get/make a fully mechanical mod and learn to build myself 1.8 ohm coils and then either take up rebuildable atties or go squonking....

Whatever, I am determined I'm not going back to smoking

Let me introduce you to my backup plan.

I still have all my zippos, I loved them when I bought them, some were gifts with great sentimental value. I love things.

I dont smoke but I still enjoy looking at them. A simple mechanical device. I had a very expensive sensor touch, some other fancy lighters but they werent me. I gave those away. At that time people would tell me why not use the fancy one you had that was better in wind, state of the art....

I like my Zippos.

Great job and I'd suggest you print out all the info you find about usage before they possibly remove it just as they are talking of doing to gun forums.

Is there a difference, government is a business, lol
Sure, Gov is just a bunch of people who would like to keep their job while doing nothing.

A government offical gets payed if they do something or nothing.

To get them to do something requires offering them $$$$$.

The businesses who sponsor the representatives who put forth the regulations to take yer stuff are the businesses who are loosing money because you aren't buying their stuff.

yes,that's true,thanks ,good idea!

....and yes, people, Paper Goblin's suggestion is absolutely valid & actually sound advice.... ;) it's not paranoia !

The gov here is actually talking very seriously of banning ecig forums as "indirect publicity" under the law that already bans forums on cigs and alcohol here...... (well they can exist but cannot be referenced on google so basically you'd have to know the address to go there...basically the death of ecig forums!)

Falconer have a look for the ivogo Dimitri clone pure mech so simple even a chimp like me can fabricate what few parts it might need and also cheap as chips I do love vaping on mine now and then and the piece of mind knowing I've a bit of kit that will always allow me to vape is priceless.

While we are on the subject of mechs:
A top tip for cleaning copper or brass mechs is ketchup. It cleans on contact, so is very good for threads and internal switch parts, is water soluble so can be easily rinsed away. I then use Brasso to get a high shine on areas like the outside of the tube and the button.

Here's another technique for a really high shine
How to speed-clean your Copper/Brass Mech

If you're looking to get into mech's and want a quality unit for around a 100 bucks, I'd look into Gus Mods. They are a beauitiful unit of quality for the money and have a built in replacable fuse just in case you happen to make a mistake while getting your feet wet. May I also suggest that you study ohms law, battery safety and the art of coil building in depth.

Best of luck to you and enjoy the ride...;)
