Hi All,

We'll I've been lurking on the forum for the past few days, reading up as much as I can. Guess now is the time to say 'hello'

Today I am the proud owner of a gamucci e-cig, I know I know, not the best one to get but I'm actually pretty happy with it. I have a 901 coming from pills38 tomorrow plus some (hopefully decent) e-liquid.

Got mixed reaction to my e-cig at work today, couldn't help having a sneaky puff on it today and couldn't wait to show it to other people. It all seemed to go down quite well, a few workmates watched as I explained how it worked and were really impressed. Evidentally one other went over to the other corner of the office to complain about the smell. I guess it was a pretty "brave" move to go round the office but I was so excited about the possibilities, no carbon monoxide, no dangerous chems apart from nicotine. I'm not even sure why I chose to do it!. Will calm down tomorrow and go outside like a good worker and e-smoke outside, don't want any trouble.

I guess one thing I have to ask other members is how do other people deal with e-smoking in the workplace, do you even do it?. Smoking of any kind is so stigmatised in the workplace now a days, especially in the UK (I must be old but I remember being able to smoke at my desk in the last 80's!). I'm not even sure that it is acceptable and the last thing I want is HR breathing down my neck even if it is not technically breaking the law. The most interest was from current smokers, they were all talking about puffing at their desk and not having brave the november weather. I didn't notice anything apart from the vague odour of the tobacco flavouring in the office today and that was localised around me. I guess I'd value other peoples opinions?.

I work in a large open plan office and regularly (but discreetly) smoke. It helps that I'm in the corner with a window but up to now nobody's complained at all. I was using coffee e-liquid today and someone even commented on the pleasant latte aroma

My manager, an ex-smoker since the 80's, also champions the fact that I esmoke and if anyone comments about what I'm doing he'll actually rave on about how he thinks it's a great device which isn't illegal to use indoors. I didn't see this personally but a colleague mentioned that he's been doing a lot of reading up on it so he can come to my defence if/when the complaints kick in.

In the 80's I was working as an admin clerk for the Police and I also remember smoking in the office. I can also remember when they brought the ban in and forced us to go outdoors but I used to sneak down to the toilets in the basement. Don't think the smoke detectors were as sensitive then.

When you say the police do you mean the popular musical combo? If not- well, I used to work for the CPS...I had a huge ashtray then...

Thanks efagil I guess some of the problem could be addressed by paying attention to the fragrance you are using, coffee/mint etc might be more acceptable than the tobacco one (even though it didn't really smell like tobacco, more like fruit or air freshener!).

It's really good you have a supportive boss, I haven't got to this stage yet but if I chose to continue to puff in the office I'm sure some kind of conversation will be had!! . I'm thinking about being assertive and approaching HR about it to explain the situation first.

Ahh those days before smoker alarms eh!. I always found smoking into the bins worked when smoke alarms were a prob , esp when at a concert at wembley where they wouldn't let you back in!. Hopefully those days of feeling like a leper will be over with e-cigs.

I'm lucky enough to have my own iindividual office, so I have no problems vaping at work...

I still like to go outside once in a while for a little break, though...

I started smoking in 1974 when it was okay to do so anywhere. If the present day smoking bans were in place back then, I might never have started.

When I worked in the office, I always looked forward to my smoke break when I'd go outside and meet my smoking social group. I met a lot of fine people and made a lot of friends that I might not have otherwise. I miss those days.

I work at home now, coding medical records over the internet. Working at home allows me to smoke more. So now my e-ciggy feeds my hand-to-mouth fixation and let's me inhale something that is less likely to kill me.

Those were the days.... It was Merseyside ...

There were two of us in the office that smoked and he was a Union Reconciliation type person... there's a word for his job title but can't think of what was... then moved on to IT and the nightmare's began 8-o

Not with the Police anymore, most people were great but unfortunately, too many lifers and job's worths mixed with too much politics and bureaucracy.
