....waffle? Thanks Sirius, I have learned a new word. That is pure genius! Rip does some pretty amazing builds, most not practical, but beautiful.

Can you tell me what "Danny's pen trick is? For a twist, I am thinking of folding the wire over one time, attach it to a fixed pole and use a slow electric drill to do the twist, twisting until the wires just start to twist over a second time, then stop. Does this sound right?

A lot of people seem to like it and seems to help them, but my video is here

Very nice!! Like the straight to the point video. Don't need all the wanna-be comic relief.

Thank you, that's what a lot of people seem to tell me and even Russ he mentions it. I don't like taking long for a video if I can help it. I don't like joking around and being hyper in videos. I'm just a laid back and simple guy from Alabama. I like Rip's coil videos, but I can't watch his reviews.

Just throwin' this out there - there's something called the Tesla Twist, and it's $8 shipped. It fits into a drill. It has 4 holes. You put the kanthal through one of the set of holes and then grip the other end and twist like with any other method. (if you want to get freaky you can utilize both sets of holes and twist two strands of any gauge or different gauges together)

There's no need for straightening of the wire or anything like that when you do this method - and the product is always straight, perfectly tensioned, zero chance of any kinks etc in the twist. Not in any way implying other methods aren't capable of producing perfect twists by the way. But this is a fool proof, easy-as-all-hell way of twisting wire. Sloth approved :)

I just used the method where you fold the Kanthal in half, twist the loose ends, and clamp with nn pliers. Then, put the loop over an Allen key attached to the drill, I just kept tension and spun until it snapped off. Came out perfectly straight the first time and took about 30 seconds. Easy peasy :)

Made a ghetto version of the Tesla Twister with a spare dowling piece and it works the same I would assume and very easy. It probably won't last as long as aluminum but I like it.

Question, since I'm not a twisted wire master. I got some waves at then end 1/4 of the wire. Was that because I lost tension? Can I still use that part?

That's exactly how I do it too, and never had a fail.

I recommend Danny's hand wind technique to friends who want to try out twisted because it requires no investment (everybody's got a pen, most everybody's got pliers).

Two guys at work were interested but using a drill was a psychological hurdle for them. I told them about the hand twist process and now they're twisted fools. One has moved on to using a drill, the other won't.

I do either, but hand winding I can do while watching tv with the wife. It's taken the place of schlicking my door, so less irritating for her, too.

It's the little things.

So you got me wanting to build with twisted kanthal again. Only did a single coil this time. Yes, I know I build on the side for dual coils on the Odin. I like the wide open airflow better so I do single coils on that side. Not the best job I ever did with building, but I'm watching nascar so I'm distracted a little haha

This is the method that I use and it works well! Had a minor mishap with a power drill the first time I tried so I went this route. LOL

My method exactly..I rarely go to the trouble of straightening the kanthal.

And you did a fabulous job! [emoji6] the chuck on my power drill doesn't tighten down good on the allen wrench thingy and it goes a flyin. Lol

Edit:thought about trying it with my dremel. Wonder if that would work?

This is exactly why I use the tesla twist - easy fit in the drill, no chance of it slipping or the wire slipping.
