There is this new commercial out - for 5 hour energy...
It really pisses me off...
They claim that their product has more (edit: less) caffeine than "starbucks" coffees.
Well, most coffees do have more caffeine than Starbucks coffee... starbucks is arabica coffee which naturally has less caffeine than robusta coffees...
So, their ad sounds impressive by saying more than starbucks... but if they really wanted to impress people, they'd say their coffee has more caffeine than Maxwell House or Folgers...
Robusta coffee beans are the beans grown in masse - in fields, they are harvested by machines... they have an earthier, bolder, flavor... not better or worse, just different. They have MORE caffeine.
while most varietals/arabica beans (kenya aa, Sumatran, jamaican blue mountain, Ethiopian etc... ) are grown at higher altitudes and have higher acid content and less caffeine. (this acid is good, it contributes to flavor and distinguishes the bean's characteristics) these are the beans that need to be picked by hand... because machinery doesn't work so well on mountain tops. These have less caffeine.
My point is that this commercial really has no value... when reading between the lines, I understand that 5 hour energy marketing is either stupid or trying to mislead me...
My larger e-cig/5 pawns point is... what the heck does aging ejuice in oak barrels do? When I think about it, it sounds a little gross.
Aging whiskey, tobacco, cheese, wine... I get... but I do need someone to educate me here... I do understand the value of steeping, though over-steeped juice is what I throw in the garbage...
Edit, the commercial actually claims less caffeine - but my point remains the same... the fact that they namedrop starbucks - the insult to my intelligence is that I am supposed to believe that starbucks is superior and that it is packed with caffeine.
