just started in DIY and ive gotta huge array of flavorings and ive been doing some mixing and vaping. im not sure if its me or what, but everything ive mixed is just blah and really weak in taste. im using a standard flavoring percentage of 5% on all my mixes so far just to be consistent. ive even used some flavors that are called "double-strength" and to me they are just as weak tasting as the rest. im not sure what to think about this and I am looking for any suggestions? I am letting my new juices sit for a few days and keep shaking them up consistently too, im not sure when im gonna be wowed by any one of the 25 different flavors ive mixed up....all my flavoring are top name brands from top companies so please advise. thanks !

I figured I would start at lower percentages and then increase if needed. I always read stuff like start at 1/2 percentage then increase as needed...and I know every juice ive ever tried from a local vape shop that makes their own juices im always thinking that their juicies are weak too...that's one of the reasons im doing my own juices now. I really don't wont to go overboard on percentages and then ruin a bunch of bottles of juice. any other advise is appreciated?

Where in the name of all thing DIY does this "standard" come from?

We have to know so we can kill it with fire before some more poor new mixers get the idea that there is a "standard" flavoring percentage and this becomes one of the revolving thread topics on here.

Very true. There's no standard with DIY. Especially when there are several flavor companies out there. One flavor company is good mixing as low as 3% while another is 15%. It's trial and error.

Also (mind you, this is a diy noob but been combing through this forum) try adding small increments at a time. Maybe 1-2%. Don't overshoot...you'll miss what you're looking for possibly by doubling the % of flavor. It's not intuitive in the sense of more flavor=more flavor. You have to find the sweet spot. And you're on the road to it, just keep on trying.

If you only want to use 5% then you need to get some Flavour Art or VZ concentrates. If your going to use Flavor West and others your going to have to increase that flavoring some. You will find that even with the same companies flavor, there will variation between their different flavors and one set percentage ain't gonna work.

Short and simple.

I know flavorings that if mixed at 5% would be so overflavored that there would be almost no taste.
I know flavoring that if mixed at 5% would be so underflavored that there would be almost no taste.
I also know flavorings that if mixed at 5% would be good and very flavorful.

That's why I'm a big proponent of having a dripper at the mixing table when working with a new flavoring. I can keep adding, shaking, dripping, and vaping until I get close. (I guess that would be my standard, keep adding until close.)

I read that flavor west flavors are all strong flavors...most juices taste weak to me tho...lol. I want me some flavor !!!

Actually its the opposite. Flavor west isn't strong, thus why you'd need more flavoring. At 5% I taste nothing. At 15% I get a good taste. It's actually one of the companies out there that's needs more flavoring, but is good once you get it right.

so after I decide to add more drops of flavoring to a certain mix...do I need to let it sit for awhile or another day or so? or can I go ahead and expect it to be my flavorful right away? wouldn't some actual steeping make a big difference? im sitting here right now with a box of mixes and im dripping juices and adding more drops here and there as we speak...

Keep notes on what you add so you can figure out what was working.

The key to what I said is, "until I get close" because once it's close I set it aside to see if steeping does anything. Most the time it doesn't, but if it is one of those rare ones that gets stronger with steeping and I kept adding until it was great, then it could lose taste with steeping.

Be sure to keep track of how much you are adding so you can make it again when you get it right.

You can test it. Some juices are good first made, some need steeping. I let all my juices steep for at least a few days, but there's a couple of flavors I Vape right away after a good shake because steeping doesn't change how delicious it already is.

Basically its up to you. If its good then by all means Vape it. Just remember it could be much better with steeping. You'll have to test them and see.
