Yeah. They probably thought they were guaranteeing themselves future revenue by making them proprietary but if people realize this, it will discourage sales of the mods. I think FC should point it out in the listing to avoid unhappy customers down the road. It's usually a safe assumption that cartos are standard or XL but universal otherwise. The only exception I've seen is the halfling size at ibtanked and you would not buy one thinking you could use any old carto in one.

Due to my original KK tank arriving broken, I have one spare carto, I don't know yet if I will order any more. Marstech needs to improve the performance of these to make them worth the price.

Oh, and for myself, i find the best result for QQ is right now when my batteries almost dead. So i summing for full batteries i just need higher resistance cartos, but i can't buy them. When was posting got an idea, i just put batteries from QQ into KK and that's just works fine. No dry hits no gargles nothing... just nice clean vape.
It remained my how i was killing myself trying to fire my ego with 1.5 ohm coil with 4.8 V (as was advised from local shop) well hours of reading got me to get 2.5Ohm coil and all was fix (but dude from shop was telling me I'm damp wrong doing this and all what i will get dry hit).
Anyways i came to the point, i need higher resistance cartos or lower voltage output batteries, but i have standard 3.7 out.

My KK does not lock. I tried turning that ring but no dice. Oh well, not a big deal.

I'm probably beating a dead horse, but are you sure? I just looked at the KK on focalecig and the switch looks very similar on both the KK and QQ. I've attached a pic of my QQ. Left is open and right is closed.

Ok I'm stupid!

I didn't realize there was a THIRD tube, very small. Didn't see the seam.

Glad you were able to figure it out. It keeps me from having to pull out a protank and the origin.

And I see you guys talking about the topper that came with the KK and QQ. I looked at the one that came with my QQ and although it matches the mod, I didn't like the design of the actual cartomizer. It actually just looks like some silica wick and a coil in the center. So I won't be using mine. I purchased the QQ for the mod part, being able to use the topper would have been a bonus. Oh well.

And Nini, glad to hear your problem has been taken care of. OK, I think that covers most of what I missed since this morning. :) Carry on.

I appreciate the pics. I thought this is how it was supposed to work but mine still fires. I have taken it apart and still can't see what the problem is. My button sticks out too far to be locked that way but I can't figure out how to fix that.

Well, that's unfortunate. At least it fires. So a stay at home mod it will be. :)

***************************** UPDATE **************************************

The price listed for the 5pk of replacement Marstech cartos was incorrect. Apparently they updated the photo, before they updated the price The correct price for a 5 pk is ..... $9.37 (ducks tomatoes) .....

Doris's earlier email makes more sense now... she said she couldn't get the supplier to come down on the price, so it is what it is.

I just did see that new posting on Focalecig. And yes they are different. And kk is shorter then qq. Its easy to see with those new pics.

It just make no damn sense. Why anyone would do that, not only product what is not good for anything else, but also i can't even use it for modes from same damn company. Now I'm really unhappy and for sure will not get an other one till they smart up and starting to make those cartos work with anything. Hell if they make KK tank a bit of longer that's not going to be any issues with it, besides if there cartos would good some folks will use them in different devices because that pit is kinda nit

I know i will not get off of this thing till i make it work whatever it takes. So, i took both of them on parts, measured every damn piece of both of those tanks and they all the same. I put qq carto to kk tank, fill it up, let it sit for 2hr (i cud not make it any farther) and it works just great. Body of both cartos the same, same length total, same length of the tube only one different size/length of part what does screw in, on qq is shorter and covered by little space between screwing part and the end of the pin. When i put qq carto in - pin always sits lower (in both tanks) but it nohow effects length of tube of carto what is inside. So summing if boge or simatech cartos have the same length they must be good. Gona get them tomorrow and try them out.

One thing for sure its not chain vape device at list not the way how it comes from Marstech. On 50/50 pg/vg i got to the point. 3 fast draw (like chain) 4th will be muted and half dry, so after 3rd i put in down for 2-3 min and all over. Only this way it give consistency on vape, what it not fun it all. To get it to really easy any time vape need to play with e-juice as Nikkita6 advised, what is not less pain.

May be the truth is this tanks are just not the best not even good and move to others what perform better with less work and standard supplies (what not last thing).

Pardon my english (ESL)

Laylel thank you for your extensive feedback on the QQ and KK ... If I understand correctly, you feel that the base of the QQ cartotank is somehow shorter than the KK tank, which makes the carto sit lower inside of the QQ?

And your English is pardoned :) .. I take it that you are a francophone?

I admire the heck out of your persistence. I wish I still had the tenacity to tackle a problem with the vigor that you have shown. I was wondering if making the juice holes a little bigger will help, since it sounds like it isn't wicking fast enough, but the problem is, if the holes are too big, then you will end up with flooding. I'm not even going to attempt to make the QQ topper work. My hat's off to you for the attempt.

And no worries about the English, I can understand the point you are trying to get across. Good luck with the KK & QQ carto.

Hi guys! I've never ordered from focal before but been following this thread a bit. I'm looking for my first mech mod. My budget can only allow for a clone. Any recommendations?

It seems there are so many different variables that will point towards one mechanical over another. I'm still new to mechanicals, so I think it will be better for someone else to answer your question. If it is your first mechanical, I would probably not worry about how it looks and focus on simplicity. So there is less for you to have to mess around with, so that you can focus on what's more important, what ohm coil you are using and how it effects the battery. Battery safety. The first mechanical I purchased was a Nemesis clone. But for even more simplicity, a telescopic mechanical may even be better, so you wouldn't have to worry about your battery fitting the tube properly.

We should start calling Nikkita the "Mech Mod Princess" She's the one to give you the best choice from Focalecig!

Hi guys! I've never ordered from focal before but been following this thread a bit. I'm looking for my first mech mod. My budget can only allow for a clone. Any recommendations?

I would recommend the Caravela 18350, or the Astro mechanical ... The reasons being:

Caravela 18350: Very well made mirror polished and engraved, very smooth threading, comes with three firing pins of different sizes to ensure flush mounting with multiple devices, smooth spring loaded bottom switch in which the throw can be adjusted, extra/spare bottom switch spring included, all brass top and bottom caps and firing pins for better conductivity. It also have a reverse threaded locking ring, and air slots cut into the top cap for devices that receive their air flow from the 510 connection.

The only downside is that you would be limited to a 18350 battery configuration. There is a newer Caravela 3 tube mod set, but I don't know how good it is.

Astro: This is a telescoping mod that also comes with a kick extension ring, which can be used with, or without the mod. You can use the extension ring to simply have a 18500 configuration without telescoping the mod out, or you can leave the extension ring out, and use the mod in 18350 (not ext or telescoping), or telescope to 18500, and 18650 mode.

The Astro also has a floating 510 connection, as well an adjustment for battery rattle on the top cap, and a reverse threading locking ring. It also has a silver plated brass firing pin, and brass contacts in the fire switch.

There are also two three versions of the Nemesis on the site, which is a very popular mod, and reputed as a good mod, but there are also reports that the fire button needs to be modded in order to work well, namely with magnets. The magnet fix is not difficult, but a first time user really should be able to use the mod out of the box, and save "modifications" for later when you have a better understanding of mechanicals.

There are a few good mods on Focalecig, but since you are a new user of mechanicals, the above are the two that I feel would offer the best first time experience, with the least amount of hassle.

To be fair, I already own the Caravela, but the Astro is in transit, so I don't have it in my hands yet. My opinions on the Astro are based on extensive research on both the original, and the cloned versions of this mod, which includes actual owner reviews. I believe that telescoping mods are the best choice for a first time user, but the Caravela is so stunning, well made, and easy to use with the added extra parts.... Hope this helps.

Ahahaha, you said many of the same things that I did, but I didn't read your post before I commented with recommendations... Great minds think a like eh? :)

I agree, a telescoping mech is the best for a first time user. More complicated, or devices that need modding to work well should be saved for when the the user has more experience.
