Turn them vertical, you'll never look back

Yeh so that's the thing. I'm a huge fan of vertical coils. Problem is I'm trying to find a way to wick it using cotton, given the limitations of the juice channels. I saw your hemp build, and I know that it works because you can actually use hemp as a loose filler to create a wet carto filler effect. Can't really do that with cotton though; it just doesn't wick quite as well and fast as degummed hemp. I do have an idea that I'm
Gonna try tmr so I'll report back. I know tbev has been dying for a vertical build too :D

I'm interested in just yr normal, dual-microcoil with fluffy cotton builds. Now that you guys have had 'em for a while, I'm curious as to what changes you might have made. Especially regarding how much/dense you're packing into the channels. I can see that being potentially problematic for me, after days of frustration with the Squape.

Haha I'm gonna leave that to the other folks to show ya. I've only had success with my wimpy cotton wicks build, and it's only able to keep up up to 21 watts without getting dry hits. Grumbles.

Hey guys,

I really do apologize if this has been discussed already in the thread, but I just had a quick question:

I just bought a Fogger v4 and am psyched to have it delivered! I am a big fan of the Aqua and dual coil builds in general, so I figured the Fogger would be right up my alley. Now the one I bought is the "latest version" which, as I understand it, has a bigger deck and less e-liquid capacity (found this out after I ordered it). I was just wondering which version you guys prefer? Are there any downsides to the latest version besides the lesser juice capacity? Does the bigger deck make it perform any better? I would've ordered the previous version had I known about the difference in capacity, but oh well...hopefully this latest version one will be good!

Thanks a lot for any help you might be able to give me!

Okay screw it. Couldn't resist and drained my tank. Dual vertical microcoil with cotton.

10 wraps of 28 gauge, around 5/56. Net resistance = 0.9 ohms.

The following side views are "wrong". I proceeded to shift the coils down so that the bottom of the coil is aligned 0.5 to 1mm higher than the center deck. Didn't take a picture of it though

Wicking: 2 strands of cotton used. Each strand starts from a channel on one side, travels diagonally across the centre to the coil on the opposite side, wrapped around the outside of the coil, and back diagonally to the starting side's other juice channel.

Waaaay easier to mould the cotton when it's wet

This is how much cotton I have in the channel. The important thing is this: previously when I used the amount of cotton perfect for a 5/56 drill bit and shove the entire end down the channel, the wick always gets choked. This time what I did was to cut the end of the cotton wick to form a downward pointing V shape, and pushed that into the channel (halfway down)

Results:
VAPES LIKE A }*|%\*]€| CHAMP. currently at 27 watts on my zna30. AFC at the largest and tbh the vapor is pretty ridiculous.

Issues:
1) took me 17x 2 seconds drag before the cotton broke in. Before it did, flavor and vapor production was worse than the crap blu ecigs put out. Then all of a sudden I got the nicest lung fill and it was heaven. I guess using boiled cotton would've cut short the break in period
2) unfortunately, it'll start to flood once I close the AFC more than halfway. Not an issue for me since I vape it wide open, but could be an issue for some others. An option would be to either trim off less of the ends of the wick, or use a longer wick in the channel. I do still think the V trimming is important though.

@Tbev, give it a shot! I'm thoroughly shocked that it worked so well.

Sweet! I'm still running a 1.4ohm build on my ProVari, I can't believe it hits just as good as the 0.70hm build on my nemi.

Yeh the fogger v4 is a heck of an atty. In any case, I'm guessing that using 30ga kanthal will be better for a regulated mod. I'm gonna be building another one with that for my provari.

If you do end up trying it, let me know. I'm pretty buzz from the nic right now. Snicker

Built mine this morning. Single coil, 1.8 Ohms, 28g kanthal, plugged second airhole with cotton, pushing 11 watts on an MVP2. I didn't count the wraps. I used my emergency coil I keep in my travelng kit. Though the build was a little bit harder than my Kayfun, not so much. No leaking, no gurgling, great airflow and OMG clouds and flavor. I did use a juice that I normally don't prefer in case I had to disassemble and redo the thing, but the juice taste pretty good in this thing. So far, glad I bought it. I may have to retire the Kayfun.

Well dang, that's a great guide! I might even try the vertical coils now. I had one go at that on one of my V2s and I could never get the right density of cotton. Or I had the coil placed too high off the deck, I'm not sure. All I know is it did nothing but leak.

Okay screw it. Couldn't resist and drained my tank. Dual vertical microcoil with cotton.

While into my Fogger v4 to make the top part of the vertical channels a little larger yet I thought I'd tackle that other problem that most have with their v4 but never discuss and that is that little o-ring on the fill screw not having a groove to live in, mine now has a grove.

This is how it came out when I removed the fill screw.
About 0.64 Ω duals 28 guage, 1/16 mandrel. The cotton only goes 1/2 way down the vertical channel and is slightly thinner than what's through the coils. Really big clouds for a tank and chainable.
I fixed that wire under the negative post after I looked at the picture.

You'll be good with that, small small small!

I haven't been following this thread for awhile because, honestly, I'm not impressed with the flavor that the Fogger V4 delivers.

I've tried smaller coils/larger coils, higher resistance/lower resistance, raise the coils/lower the coils, close the air flow/open the air flow, and nothing has made it taste the way I want it to.

That being said, the best flavor I've come up with is using larger ID coils at 2.2mm, current build running at 0.5Ω. Even so, the Kayfun I have running on an MVP at 1.8Ω gives a better flavor on the same liquid. And it's not even in the same playing field as the Taifun GT which has to be the Flavor champion.

I think I'll dual coil the Taifun today. :)

I'm using a 0.7 ohm dual build. It produces a hotter but just as flavorful vape as my Kayfun at 1.4 ohm. Tons more vapor too. I pretty much just made my standard Kayfun coil (28 gauge 7/8 wraps on 2.4mm) and used two of them. If it didn't hold so little compared to the Kayfun I'd like it more. I have the large deck version.
