Lol! Oddly enough I love coconut in food but I have yet to like it in a vape. I probably should get some at some point to see if I like it in one of my own mixes.

i haven't really loved any of the coconut offerings either but i am going to try the coconut candy from tfa...i read either here on ecf or on a review that the tfa coconut extra was like vaping suntan oil LOL

I am loving this thread! I haven't even ordered my starter set yet, (although I finally decided on which one) but I already know I want to make my own juice. I will try some of the premade juices first just to get a "feel" for what I like, but then, it's on! I already have my list of DIY supplies ready for when the day comes! It is very similar to yours! Hubby just shook his head at me! Until then, I will continue to read & learn as much as I can from all the wonderful people here. :)

Hey lady! I think I posted on your thread last night! Don't be afraid to get started once you kick the ciggy habit. I have a good friend on here who's been vaping for less than 3 months & she's been DIY for most of that time. Don't hesitate to ask any questions & ill try to keep everyone updated on how things are going here with my mixes! Hope others post here too so we can all share ideas & trials & errors with each other! And no worries! Everyone that knows me shakes their heads at me! Lol!

I appreciate the reminder. I guess it's a good thing my first RBA is in the mail!

Way off topic; I wonder if a centrifuge would help remove the particulate, and I wonder if the remaining liquid would still have flavor.
Hmmm.
I also wonder how bad of a beating I'd receive after proposing this to my wife. :D

The TFA natural coffee flavour has not worked out well. A common complaint with coffee flavours is a "burnt rubber" taste and just one drop of this in 10ml seems to have done it to my ADV. The first taste really good, but after few hours it starts to have a slight burnt rubber flavour. Exactly what you don't want in an ADV. I'm giving it another chance in my Phoenix atty today to see, but it's not looking good.

Previously I'd had a vanilla custard and hazelnut in the Phoenix and the last of that was working very well with the Light Horse. I wouldn't have thought of it myself, but maybe a rich nutty flavour like hazelnut would be a good adjunct instead of the coffee.

Why is a good coffee vape so hard to find! I haven't started working on mines yet but most of the ones I've purchased tasted just like you describe!! Yuck!!! I guess I put too much sugar & cream in my real coffee anyway.

Yes, you did post on mine. :) I'm excited about starting the DIY journey. I wish I could just order everything right now, but that is not possible. :( Hopefully by the end of next month though I will be going through the anxious excitement you are!
D

md: You don't have to spend a fortune to get started with dyi. You could use the month's juice allowance and get yourself started. Some vg,pg nic a few flavors and some syringes and a few bottles. Should get you going.

I totally understand! It was quite a few weeks between me starting this thread & being able to make my purchase of supplier! Good thing is that it gives you time to research!

I understand that, but like Chimney, I tend to want it all & won't be happy if I don't get what I want! Not to mention, I do want to actually vape a bit & see what flavors I prefer before purchasing the diy stuff. :)

Coffee is a strange one; I think some of the natural flavour esters that give coffee it's attractive smell just don't work in a solution of PG and VG. At first they do, then the tastebuds go into overload or something. I'm a bit surprised that it even happens with one drop in 10ml. That's some powerful burnt rubber flavouring. It's also possible there's something they do in the processing that is causing this.

This is one thing that makes me want to try the real coffee extraction method: People who have tried it report that the flavour is good. I'm going to start a batch when I get home: one measure of ground coffee in a 50ml bottle and top up with PG. Leave for two weeks. I'm thinking if I can leave it undisturbed for 48 hours before I try to use it, I can syringe the sediment free stuff of the top. People are also reporting good results with other extractions - tea, herbs etc.

Please let me know how it turns out. Might be something I have to try out myself.

I understand the whole all in thing, I just started myself and did the same thing. wizard lab flavoring is 1.49 for 8 mls. It's cheap enough to sample flavors with them, to see if you like them. In the meantime, maybe get a notebook and start writing down recipes that interest you so you have an idea what you might want to try.

good luck

Well, it's under way. I found a 60ml specimen container as I figured it would be easier to syringe the juice off and clean afterwards with the wide mouth. I put one scoop of coffee in, medium fine grind, and topped it up with PG. Put the lid on and shook it and found the PG level had dropped about 15%. Air in the ground coffee has been replaced with PG of course. Topped the PG up again and wrote the date & contents on the lid.

I'm not sure why I should be using decaf, as the whole batch only contains as much coffee as it will be possible to get in one cup of brewed coffee, doesn't it? I've also never actually used decaffeinated, especially after that scare about the chemicals they were using to decaffeinate the coffee being more dangerous than the caffeine itself.

Give me the caffeine, I say.

I'll try to follow up in about two weeks, after I figure out how to strain some of it... Lab grade filter paper I do not have.

If you decide you're going to do this, you'll need more PG than you initially ordered. A lot more :)

I couldn't stand the wait for my WL order, so I stopped in at Tractor Supply and bought a gallon of PG and a few syringes and 16ga needles (sharp). The grocery store and the drug store provided a couple of flavored coffee samples and a small bottle of VG.

I used the microwave method found in the Coffee flavor thread to produce three extracts; two french vanilla (filtered differently) and one regular dark roast. 6.0 grams of coffee (as measured on a digital reloading scale) and 20ml of pg were used for each extract.

Initial samples from each were mixed up at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50% concentrate levels, with the remainder being PG; no Nic and no VG.

This is where I would normally insert the vomiting smiley
Okay, it wasn't that bad, but the results aren't good either. The flavor level at 50% is about right. The flavor that I'm getting, however, is not very good. Also, the extract is stupid dark with particulate since I could only strain with coffee filters. Atty killer for sure!

I'm letting the samples sit for a few days, stirring and shaking whenever I pass by. I don't know that steeping will help them, but it certainly won't hurt  The good news is that the method works well; I believe the initial coffee samples are to blame for the horrible taste (fench vanilla? what was I thinking???). I also think I'll need something in the form of cream or sweetener to help the final product.

Well, it's under way. ...Lab grade filter paper I do not have.

Funny, I was discussing this with someone from the NET thread just yesterday. He is using 45 micron syringe filters to remove the last of the particulate. Those filters are available on Ebay, so I may give them a try after I get an extract with good flavor. He also threw out this suggestion: a Buchner Filter. This kit is, of course, waaayyy over the top (at this stage), however it might be easy to rig something up using the lab filter papers, the funnel, and a couple of canning jars. I thought I'd toss this out there 'cause my samples still need a good bit of filtering, so I might as well get cracking on the problem now.

BTW, good luck with your experiment!
