I've disabled the Likes alerts... good lord!

I'm not exactly sure how that works....

Cool, thanks for letting me know you get an alert. I've also disabled the Like alerts. Too many people "Like" me.

Here's the deal on followers. All you get is a notification now that someone is following you. They don't need your permission. So it is quite possible that you could have more followers than those you follow. The numbers are no longer going to match.

Okay, but why can't I go to someones page that is following me?

Because they set their privacy settings to prevent it.

Okay, let me explain this better.

The choices for privacy are -
All Visitors
Members Only
People You Follow Only

So by this definition - they are following me - so I should be able to see their page???

On the Follow & Followers . . . Since it was brought up again and I never saw a response to "My" first post concerning this issue . . .

Okay if I understand it correctly - from what I read - it seems that anyone that wants to, can now "Stalk" someone without them knowing before hand . . .

Well as I already mentioned in an earlier post, before the migration "We" could at least accept or not accept a Friends request (if a PM was also sent) . . . OR - "We" could actually edit "Our" Friends list . . . However, now the options are very limited . . . "We" can either "unfollow" someone, or put them on the an "ignore" list, or totally block everyone . . . Really not much of a choice . . . :(

So - given this, if it is possible and when feasible, can there be something done so that "We" can accept/not accept a "Follower" and/or at least edit both of these list to "Unfriend"/"Unlike" someone - like it is done on other "Social Media" sites . . .

You can at least "unfollow" a member by clicking on your avi in the upper right hand corner and selecting "personal details". That will bring up a 1 page list of all your followers and the option to unfollow. They can probably still follow you though.

As far as "stalking" goes, we had that ability on the old forum and I don't see any way to avoid it here either.

Yea - I know "We" can "unfollow" people, but that's exactly why I mentioned it as one of those limited options . . . ;)

 "Stalking" - Anyone can do that . . .

As "You" so well know . . .

NOW - I don't believe that "YOU" of all people didn't get the sarcasm in "My" using that word . . .

That is not currently an option, and there are no addons that I'm aware of that prevents someone from following you.

It's possible they may change this behavior in XF 2.0 (which is under development).

And if you stop to think about it, this really isn't that big of a deal. It really isn't. Even if I'm not following someone, I can easily see what they're doing via advanced search.

First - THANK YOU for replying . . . :) AND - IMO - It would be really nice if they did address the issue in XF 2.0, especially being able to accept/not accept "Followers" . . .

Also, just as an FYI: It is not a "big of a deal" for some . . . I fully understand that someone can (and some actually do) "follow" someone if they want to, especially given the advanced search options or just by going to their profile page and looking at their "Recent Activity" . . . The main issue, right now for "Me" (and some other ECF members I know), is making it easier for people to do so without their knowledge and not having the option to "Unfriend" them . . . HEY - I can find people all over Facebook, but there - if someone sets their privacy to only "Friends" no one can see their information until they are also accepted as a "Friend" . . . The other possible issue for some, is that everyone "We" had as a Friend in the old interface is now separated as either a Follower or Following that cannot be edited easily . . . Matter of fact, there are a number of people no longer on ECF that I "unfriended" that have all of a sudden shown up back on "My" list . . . Again - Just Sayin' & hopefully something to think about to possibly have implemented also here on ECF . . . ;)

Thanks . . . :D

This is true but kinda creepy. If you want privacy you'll have to stay off forums and the internet for that matter.

Even that isn't a guarantee -- my husband was livid to learn that if someone googled his exact name, there were actually search results that pertained to HIM... I had to explain that public records are all online nowadays, easily searchable. He doesn't like it AT ALL. :D

You can do this (or something similar), at least for your profile page. In your privacy settings, when something is set as viewable to "people you follow only" then no one can see it except those that you have chosen to follow. Any random people who are following you won't be able to see those details, nor will any other Tom, Dick or Harry who happens to stumble across your profile page.

Seriously, I think I did add you the other night, but if you'd rather I didn't lemme know :)

or will any other Tom, Dick or Harry who happens to stumble across your profile page.
wow.......uhmmm.......can we talk about tom and harry's friend now? It appears we can! And if so thank you!! As I've said, I do appreciate that ECF isn't full of nasty language, but I do think some of the word bans, like this one went a bit far. So am very happy that it seems it's no longer banned
