Thanks. I messaged Dr. Loi to ask him to read this thread and give an opinion on whether this might be serious or nothing at all. If it's serious, and if you received contaminated cartridges, then shipping and handling procedures might need to be changed .. to refrigerated shipment, for instance. Lots of medicines -- and most foods -- have to move that way. This liquid we inhale is not a food, but it sure is a consumable via mouth and lungs.

i have some ruyan carts coming.. left the ruyan facotory in december 2007.. to quote..

High (16mg) simple packing(Produced in Dec, 2007 with two years validity)

this implies a long shelf life.. but thats just ruyan carts.. as is rightly pointed out we really have no idea of what we are sucking in.. having said this i dont see any easy answer if we wish to keep smoking the things.. i also think making noise over the issue will work against us not for us..

the whole thing is a calculated risk i am prepared to take.. to those who are not i would suggest finding some other system to satisfy their needs.. not makes noises that are likely to get the whole lot banned before they are otherwise likely to be..

sometime bob i wonder about u.. a big T or P agent provocateur might take the same line as u do sometimes.. u do play up the risk element a little to much for me.. he he he

I suppose it's possible Karen- these really do smell and taste like rotton eggs, but the site I got them from doesn't list oriental ones- but perhaps they got soem in by mistake- I only know there's no way I can smoke them- I even tried cuttign them with bickfords strawberry extract and soem glycerin, and it's still very bad

Dr. Loi is getting involved. Opinions on safety mean nothing. Facts would.

Trog, I recently retired early after being a newspaper reporter my entire life post-college. I like this analogy: If 10,000 people cross a downtown intersection without incident, that is not news. I don't care about that fact. That's the way things should be. But if one is struck and killed by a car at that intersection, it's news. I'm interested. It was my job to see if finding a "why" couldn't prevent another such fatal incident.

I have a natural -- and fierce -- drive to find and change things that threaten people, things that are not simply a matter of personal choice. X-sports? Great. Contaminated e-cig carts? I wanna know why, with what, how'd it happen, who's responsible, can we prevent it ever happening again. I see real importance in finding those answers and making them catalysts for change.

That's where I come from with every single curiosity about the safety of e-smoking, the long-term effects. Shoot, I bet I could have retired rich if I had worked for Big T or P, instead of a succession of newspapers now going bankrupt. :thumb:

I won't go so far as to say I LIKE it, but it didn't make me rinse my mouth out with listerine or anything.

When I vaped it, my non-smoking daughter even gagged from the odor. The odor was awful. I think someone else here had that same issue. I remember seeing it posted before. The other problem I had with the oriental was that it took forever for the flavor to leave the atomizer. I was in Atlantic City at the time and the last thing I wanted to do was give it a bath. I kept dripping (and making faces in between drips).

For all I know, I may have had a rotten batch of Oriental. I just know I'll never vape it again.

karen.. if that happened to me i would buy a small quantity again just to see if it was a bad batch... my curiosity works this way.. always has done..

i know one thing.. there is a whole huge industry out there making fake smells.. a dark art a wee bit like the alchemy of old.. he he he

if the witch popped a slightly wrong amount of rats toenail in the caldron what was meant to smell like roses ends up smelling like dried dog turd..

three pinches of rats toe nail.. five pinches of toads balls.. two pinches of worm slime.. equals roses.. get this slightly wrong and it equals dried dog turds... he he he he

trog

ps.. the point here is that to assume (as some have) bacteria and danger because of a bad smell isnt valid..

Yeah I remember hte oriental flavor posts in that thread Karen- they said it tasted liek cat piss- This defiantely tastes liek rotton eggs (not that I've eaten many rotton eggs, but once you smell them, you never forget the smell and taste the smell leaves behind in your mouth just fro minhaling hte odor- Sulfer smells liek rotton eggs too.

TB- I've got one used cartridge that had hte pronblem, I'll hold onto it incase Dr. Loi wants to examine it.

From what I have gathered over the past 5 months is that fruity flavors or Non-tobacco flavors tends to expire early if not refridgerated..I do have samples of Cherry from E-cig which smells and taste totaly diferrent (even the color changed)..I did sent it in for chemical analysis and Bacterial Culture and sensitivity test...surprising results was no actual bacteria was found on it..I was worried about Mycobacterium and at least the anaerobic forms but we could not catch it at all..so I still have no idea what could have caused it...

my theory was that some e-liquids was not prepared freshly and could have reacted with the wool within the cartridge causing the acidic reaction to be triggered..in turn changing the color as well as the taste..I actually did taste some of it but no actual side effects like infected oral or pharyngeal mucosa...but it does leave a very bad taste....the PH did changed though towards acidity and it does not smell like protein decay but possible sulfide related..still awaiting my chem analysis( I discovered this last 2 months ago) ...

Whatever said and done, it is best to discard this or even report back to the supplier regarding this "bad eggs"...

just my 2 cents....hope it helps...;)

I see a big difference sometimes between one cartridge and the next. I'll look at one and it'll be a pinkish or reddish color liquid. Then sometimes it will be a browner color or more colorless, and smell sweeter. These are carts from the same manufacturer. There doesn't seem to be very much quality control. Or at least not very consistant. Also the reddish colored liquid seems to have a more bitter aftertaste. What you said jimldk makes sense though because I see this more often in the apple flavor.

I do have one question though. If his cartridges are completely sealed in little baggies... And there was active bacteria in there... Wouldn't the sealed packages puff up and eventually pop or just be really full of air/gas? Especially if there's enough to make it taste or smell like rotton eggs... Naz do you notice this?

Thanks Doc- Two points- the ones that smelled bad were very dark colored, and 2, these were a plain tobacco flavor, so no acid as far as I know, just veggie extract I think (unless they use artificial tobacco flavoring). We compost alot, and non of hte veggies we compost ever smell like rotton eggs- the compost may stink to high heaven, but it's a different odor than the cartridges. I'm not really sure hwat is going on with the Carts- I'm thinking just a bad mix right fro mthe manufacturer plant itself, but I could be wrong- could be the heat got to it or something. I was sick the day it happened,, had been gettign a cold for a coupel of days, and was sick ot my stomach even before I tried hte cartridges, so not sure if they made me sick or not, as I've only tried a few now that I'm better, and the ones im trying are not quite as bad as those that day were. I've got 40 cartridges left, but I really can't stand hte taste even with hte ones that aren't as bad.. I tried adding bickfords strawberry extract to htem, but it did very little to cut the taste. Ido have soem Irish creme which I don't like, but will try that and see what happens- maybe I can salvage the rest of hte carts

Bish- I've noticed that as well with indifvidual carts- these that were the worst were the darkest I'veseen yet in cartridges. And nope- there was no buildup of gas i nthe carts plastic packageing.

karen.. if that happened to me i would buy a small quantity again just to see if it was a bad batch... my curiosity works this way.. always has done....

Janty USA Jeff sent me a sample box of it last week...I'm sure he's laughing his ... off about it right now.

I'm going to have a few beers tonight. You want me to do this completely sober? Or can I have 1 or 6 beers first?
