OK so I Don't do the Bar thing but hang out once/week at a friends house for what we call wing night. I have been vaping all summer and for the first few weeks my fellow smoking friends were OK with my vaping so I thought the novelty had wore off and everything was cool. I go last week and every smoker there goes crazy on me for vaping. You still smoking that poison blah blah blah.:nah: I try to ignore it then get a little defensive so I just leave it as "you keep sucking on those cancer sticks and I'll keep lovin my new pina colada flavor".

Now we have a 60th birthday party same friends and everything's cool, and some non-smokers all 4 of them start to show interest and they all want to try my PV well the PV ended up the hit of the party. Unfortunately I think I accomplished the opposite effect of vaping by addicting the non smokers. Just kidding, but it was nice having them defend me instead of me defending me.:D

Oh, on Saturday, dinner at the gf's parents' house, her parents asked me to stay at the table to puff, and then had me show it off to the gf's sister's friend. Who loved it, btw, she was doing a side by side comparison outside (I had basically 7 e-cigs with me, I gave her a fresh atty and dripped red bull, then menthol for her), and she LOVED it. She's buying one soon.

Well, your friends are all wrong, and we know that. Tell them you can list all three ingredients plus flavor, and ask them if they know all the additives in cigarettes.

I have and they saw the latest FDA thing and say "It's no better". It's all cool now, but it is kinda interesting on how non smokers show interest. I think it's because of the 2nd hand smoke and they would rather be in a smokefree environment. I tell the Smokers 10 years from now you'll all think about me when vaping takes hold, that's if you make it 10 years.;)

Ah - see, I've had people say to me "But the FDA!" and I usually cut them off there and ask if they read the FDA's lab report, because I did, and if they realize that the tobacco industry is on the FDA's tobacco advisory committee, against the recommendation set out by the WHO.

Stanton Glanz, PHD, director of a tobacco control board, among other things, said its like letting mobsters on a crime prevention board. Three seats are owned by BT.

The usual response I get is "So wait, the FDA is basically hanging out with the cigarette companies now? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?"

Yup - and thats when they realize there is more to this than what they saw in a 10 second spot on TV. I've even had some ask me to email them with all the info, then they ask me where to buy them :)

As long as they can tell themselves that e-cigs are less healthy than smoking they don't have to examine what they are doing to themselves by smoking. For once it gives them someone to look down, so instead of listening to the facts they are doing what my 6 year old does and sticking their fingers in their ears and humming. Maybe they'll grow up eventually.

Da hubs and I went to a friends house this weekend to play cards. They are both very heavy smokers.... I dragged out the gear, and started explaining it to them.

I got a blank stare, and a 'what's the point?" question... I dropped it at that point (no sense starting a fight with friends).

Smokers are naturally defensive (they have to be) it's a survival technique.... they've been vilified, demonized.... well, we all know the drill.... and adopt a "don't wanna hear about some new-fangled thingie or drug or whatever - just leave me and my cigs alone!!!" response that pops up automatically.

I've put the nugget in their heads, though, that there's an alternative out there, ready and waiting.... when they want more info, they'll know where to come for it.

Last I heard there were 2 NON-Voting seats held by the tobacco companies on the scientific advisary board. This makes sense because the companies have proprietary rights to ingredients and production steps. The other members on the board are public health types and Glantz just wants to make more positions for his students.

One has to ask why shouldn't the corporations that make the product have a seat on the board for their own product....Duh! I don't understand why their vested interest does not have a vote...but let's call it a corporate take-over...because in essence that's what was done.

Let's not forget that this "board" is funded by user fees from Big Tobacco but they can only sit at the table they bought. I doubt many businesses would tolerate those measures for long. If it were my business I would take it elsewhere and stop funding a campaign against my-self.

What would America do if all of those funds from smoker's disappeared in this economic clime? :D

Please note we have not ratified the Who's FCTC. One can't violate a treaty that has not been signed into law.

My girlfriend smokes so while I am in college across the country I have slowly been moving away from analogs to e-cigs. When I went home a couple months ago for a couple days I tried to show her them but she was completely uninterested. She said she just isn't interested in leaving cigarettes yet. So I figure in December when I go back I will show them to her again seeing as I am upgrading more in the next few months.

When I told my parents (yesterday) about my new vaping habit, I was shocked that they were absolutely thrilled with it! I got congrats and they wanted to know every little detail. I was really expecting them to balk at it and I would get defensive, blah blah blah...but wow I couldn't believe how happy they were for me. Planning a road trip with my dad (about a 6 hour round trip) and told him now I could travel with him without wanting to throttle him because I was freaking out without nicotine. LOL This vaping thing MIGHT be a good thing (6 hr road trips with your dad? OMG).

I don't know why some smokers are so hesitant about vaping. It's the same way with one of my friends, he is under the impression that he can quit cold turkey, which isn't working for him so far. I just think that they either don't really want to quit or they don't want to deal with the hassle of getting started with it. I just don't know if he's the type that could handle the downgrade in flavor/strength with going from smoking to vaping. I've noticed that I don't get quite the hit from vaping that I did with smoking, but it doesn't bother me that much.

I think we should all carry around a list in our pockets of all the chemicals found in cigaretttes and just hand it to them..

I think taking a "holier than thou" attitude because we don't smoke cigarettes anymore is being even worse than they are.

Everybody knows that cigarettes are terrible for you. It just seems like people don't realize (or know) that e-cigs are better for you than analogs. Telling people what's in their analog seems pretty pointless to me.

I realize you were joking, or hope you were joking, but i'm sure a lot of people think that showing people how bad analogs are would accomplish something.

It's amazing that after the initial "what the hell is that?" moment my friends give me when did see me vaping, that they pretty much don't say anthing else. A few have asked me some questions but for the most part they just go about their own business. When they question me, I ask them if they want to try and whle some say "no thank you", others have tried and have had positive remarks. I would never ever preach to them and have only told them that if they are interested in them to feel free to ask me any questions.
