I have 3 cats so it pretty much has to be done! Plus, my husband goes out of town for weeks at a time for his job, so there's no way to get around it, really.

Oh yeah, I had a question, I've been watching TLC's Bringing Home Baby a lot, and saw where they had this like foam stabilizer for the baby to sleep in. What are those called and has anyone used them to have the baby sleep in the bed with the parents?

The foam that they use to prop a baby on it's side? My babies hated those, and I tried them with all 4,since they all had reflux as newborns. Really the latest studies have said that side sleeping is as dangerous as tummy sleeping in regards to the risk of SIDS.

my babies slept with me too.. but it can be risky IF you are a sound sleeper (or your hubs) as to food.. my first I followed all the rules to a T (of course) :) My second baby was eating table food by the time she was 4-6 months. As soon as she could stuff it in her mouth! Beans were great.. and bits of grainy bread. Then again, she nursed till she was 2, so most of her nutrients were well covered.

I was afraid to even mention co-sleeping. We did it too. Of course if you breastfeed it makes it so much easier, especially in the beginning when it feels like you do nothing but nurse and change diapers. Even if you formula feed, you get a lot more sleep knowing the baby is "right there"

I just let mine cosleep without the wedge. :) Don't worry too much about learning to cook, baby won't need table food for the first 6 months anyhow, 4 if you formula feed. :)

That co-sleeper sounds cool. What is it? Like a little bassinett attachment?

My first slept in a bassinett (my dad made) right next to the bed. My second slept IN the bed... but they are right.. if you nurse.. it's SO much easier if they are right there!! They are pratically ATTACHED to your breast. (there is not as much fat in breast milk, so it's not as filling, so they feed more often)

True.. it's not recommended (for safety sake) but they make a lot more products these days to help you over that hurdle.

Mine slept in his crib right by my bed, on his back with the blanket tucked under th mattress on each side at his waist, less chance he could roll. I couldn't cook worth a crap either, mashed potatoes were easy and just fine for him when he was starting solids. Don't stress too much, and as for heavy sleeping, once your baby is born, you wake to any sound with ease. Even now, almost 11 years later, if my son has a nightmare it wakes me up and I come running. Yet hubby can't wake me worth a crap...:p

GC: I worried so much about sleeping through a crying baby since I tend to sleep like the dead. To this day I can sleep through the hub's alarm at 5am but if one of the boys coughs I can tell you who it was through 2 closed doors!

Hey Red - felt the need to share this: My dad's statement on Advice: Advice is free. You are free to take it or leave it. Just know that it is generally given in ove. :p

Homeish now
Just throwing out some free advise
If you can breastfeed as long as you can, even if it means dealing with pumps(PITA)
There are huge advantages for the baby of course...but also for the mom. Things like it lowers the chances of ovary, uterine, and breast cancer, helps with delivery recovery time, weight loss, natural(but dont count on it) birth control, all kinds of things. It's Good for the mother to basically :)

Oh..and both of mine co slept to. IDK they say dont b/c of the SIDS, you might roll on top of them stuff but it just felt right.

I wouldn't worry too much about what you see on TV. Just like everything else there is a learning curve, but it's not impossible. Of course with my first I was swayed to breastfeed because of the weight loss. With my other 3 I figured out I was far to lazy to formula feed

Thanks for all the experience and advice! Breast feeding is really starting to intimidate me after watching all the problems people have with it on tv shows.

And I had never witnessed anyone giving birth before. So, I looked online and found a birthing video. OMG I am really scared now!

Ahhh, a classic mistake.

*snort*

Am I alone in having given birth (3 times) and never having seen a birth outside of childbirth classes or Lifetime TV? According to DH - it's something he wishes he'd not seen either! lol

Think of it like sex - if you'd seen the movie FIRST, you'd probably never try that either! lol

Seriously Red - millions of women do it AGAIN, willingly for a reason. lol I viewed my entire pregnancies as an exotic trip - something I'd only get to do a couple of times in my life. So even while heaving, or finding rubber-bands to make my pants fit, yes being PG was inconvenient at times, but trips I'll never forget.

Just wait until you start to really bloom and perfect strangers touch your belly! I didn't get it at the time - but now that my baby is 10, I find myself wanting to do the same in the grocery to women taking the trip into motherhood. To re-experience that feeling of a kick or roll. I however have no desire to actually go through the experience again - mid-40's is not my idea of a good time to be PG again! I love that all 3 can wipe their own butts and make their own lunch!

I never looked at a birthing video or even went to classes for that matter. It honestly comes naturally, I don't think I would want to look at a video.
Breastfeeding can be difficult, it hurt me too much to do it, but I made sure to keep it up for at least 3-4 days for the first, very important, milk. If you can't do it after, don't feel like a failure :)

Don't stress about it, just enjoy being pregnant right now :)

I hated when perfect strangers would touch my belly. Ask first damn it! A pregnant belly is a very personal thing to me, it's like a public announcement that you've had sex...so I was fussy about who could touch me. lol I always ask first, but only friends. ;)

Call me odd, but I found birth very satisfying. I wouldn't mind going through it all over again.

I didn't go to classes either. Couldn't afford them with my first, and then felt I didn't need them with the others. I did find amazing parenting boards, still post on them now too. :)

I co-slept, too, and let me tell ya... it was REALLY fantastic being able to breastfeed in my sleep - literally! I'd wake up just long enough to pop a tata in his mouth, and we were both back to sleep in seconds!

Also, DON'T watch the internet / TV videos of childbirth! Seriously, you're not gonna see the baby coming out (unless you ask to - my midwife offered to grab a mirror for me, and I was like, HUH-UH). I'm a total wimp, honestly, and I did it drug-free. Mostly because I have a terrible fear of needles and didn't want to deal with one in my SPINE.

Yes, you read that right - I was so afraid of needles I preferred natural labor. Nobody ever said I was right in the head.

But in all honesty, I'd do it the exact same way again. And you can do it too! (Especially with drugs, haha!)

Ha! Exactly!:)

Yeah, I'm definitely saying, "give me the damn drugs, pwease!?"

Ugh, I was just standing out in the snow for 2 hours trying to fix this phone with no dial tone. I opened up the outside phone box and there was like a million stink bugs in there. Eeeeewwww!!!!! Now I'm tired and ready to go home and sleep! I actually just got promoted to an inside telephone tech from an outside one, effective Tuesday. I was waiting to tell my boss until I heard for sure. I think I may wait until I get my first checkup to make sure the baby is healthy and all.

Seems like my relationship with food is becoming a love and hate one. One moment the thought of anything makes me want to hurl, the next I'm mowing through some Wendy's like it's nobody's business! BTW, I don't eat fast food hamburgers very often, but that bacon burger, frosty, and fries tasted so damn good, it could've been my last meal!

And I have been majorly craving salty foods, when usually I crave desserts. I took a quiz to see what the wives' tales would say if I was having a girl or a boy, and it turned out to be a boy. But I don't have the baby's heartbeat yet, so I didn't know what to put for that question.

I'm finally on only zero mg now. And I don't hardly vape at all. Can't believe how nausea will do that to a person and I can't believe how easy it is just to quit vaping. Wonder if I'll pick it right back up after the baby is born? All I want to do is sleep and eat!

Hope everyone is doing well and has a good weekend!
