Another question for the doctor perhaps? A good thing to do... make a list of all the question you want to ask the doctor. Keep it in your purse (so you don't forget it at appt time) I seem to recall.. my preggnies was when the memory started to go.. You are going to have a ton of questions anyway. My all time favorite book was "What to Expect When You're Expecting"... and the follow up book "What to Expect the First Year". LOTS of great info in those books.. and well written.. entertaining.

(I lived in the bathroom. I pee alot now.. being PG chained me to the bathrooms. I know where every toilet in town is located  )

HUUUUUUGE Congratulations, by the way!

In theory, it's not the nicotine that's so bad when you're pregnant. It might be best to wean yourself off of it. The biggest risk, really, is that the baby will be born with a nicotine addiction, which is only problematic if you don't breastfeed.

Of course, I'm not a doctor, but this was what my midwife told me. The stress of dropping to 0mg so quickly can actually do more harm than good, which was why she told me to wean myself off cigarettes (before I'd even heard of PVs) instead of quitting cold-turkey.

Hi all =) New to PIF area but saw the pregnancy post and wanted to tell you I have a few books you are welcome to =)
one is Your Pregnancy After 30 by Glade B Curtis MD OB/GYN and the other is Caring For Your Baby And Young Child-Birth to age 5 -by the American Academy of Pediatrics. I know I have What to Expect When You're Expecting around here someplace but if you want these just PM me with your address! =)

Good luck with the pregnancy and after, babies are such a blessing. You'll soon find you didn't know you were able to love something so much before. It's amazing, really =)

Lots of info, lots of do's and don'ts but main thing is to listen to your body and enjoy the ride. It is amazing to know that there is a real person inside of you and around 16 weeks when you start to feel the baby move, you will be in complete awe and everything becomes real. I have 4 daughters and everyone of them amazed me.

YIPEE!!! Home at last
Just off the top of my head I would'nt think capsaisen which is a derivitive of chili (the hot kind like habeneros) would be nearly as harmful as nic.

I am not trying to cause any animosity because it is in fact a derivitive of chilli peppers but I also would not recommend one inhaling that either ..... it is a respiratory irritant. That is why asthmatics (severe ones) can not even cook with such things. I am a huge fan of vaping and although 0 nic is great many MDs will tell you it is better to cut down and not cause the extra stress on your body or baby. If you can give it up all together great. I have 3 children and my wife only quit smoking cold turkey with the first one ..... he was also the one that was under weight/ had asthma/ and was IUGR at 32 weeks (he stopped growing at 32 weeks) I believe to this day that a lot of that had to do with the stress of no nicotine cold turkey. She did cut back while preg. with the other 2 and they have had 0 problems (other than having me as a dad...lol) I personally would not vape anything with capsaicin in it just because as an x smoker our lungs are going to be more reactive to irritants. With that being said you are all adults and make your own choices that I promise I will not judge but I want them to be informed choices.

I'm having major cravings for spicy foods! And pickles. I've always loved pickles, but now they are my go to snack. I even drank a bunch of pickle juice last night!

Wow, how generous! I haven't gotten any books yet, but I was thinking about getting that "What to Expect" book. And welcome to PIF by the way! Yep, I am 31, I guess not quite 35 when I guess you supposedly have a higher risk pregnancy, but yeah, my body ain't what it used to be, that's for sure!

I just woke up from my nap and read all the posts. I'm tearing up! Thank you guys for offering advice because I'm sure I'll be asking all kinds of weird questions.

Ciego, you crack me up! If it is a boy, Paul is actually a really good name. My dad's middle name and was kind of thinking of the Beatles, too. And of course, you!:) I don't even know what kind of stuff that I need yet.

Paula isn't bad either if it is a girl. :)

Congratulations! This is a very special time for you.

A bit of trivia -- you can say you have the Egyptian flu (you are going to become a mummy :) ; it is an old phrase I heard about on npr)

Man, now I'm worried about cooking. I was never a big cook. I usually eat sandwiches, frozen meals, or other simple things. I'm gonna start practicing so my baby won't go starving!

Folic acid!! That's THE most important thing you need (actually, you should already have it ... and it's included in the prenatals). You can get additional folic acid in some fruits and veggies. You will crave weird things. I always listened to my body. When I craved meats.. I ate meat.. when I craved veggies.. I ate veggies. Our bodies will give us clues to some of the things it needs.. just have to listen.

There is a really cool documentary on the human body, and the changes it goes through during pregnancy. I think it was on the discovery channel. It's amazing what our bodies can do. If you get a chance to see it, you should! Very interesting and amazing!

I am using the prenatal vitamins, 'cept I forgot to take them last night, darnit. Yeah, I am going through some pretty weird stuff. I feel unusually drained & tired and especially ambivelant at work. I haven't told my work yet, but I think I should shortly because it sucked today being outside in the freezing cold doing a utility locate. I just don't feel like doing anything except for sleeping. I get home after work and just want to veg out on the couch. Sucks because I have so much stuff to get done!

I've been feeling kinda nauseated throughout the whole day. Even vaping is making me nauseous. I almost threw up today when I vaped some zero mg stuff.:( I bought some of those motion sickness wristbands and it seemed to help a little today. Also tried ginger soda & ginger tea.

My husband's out of town, so I have to clean up the cat litter. I'm gonna wear gloves & a mask, so hopefully it will be ok.
