Wow, sound like the star trek of vaping, "vape me up scottie!!!" I mean Cisco :)

Anyways sound too advanced for even me and I'm good at stuff like that, not sure I want to play around with 10 different settings per drag... just way to much for me. I just want to put batteries in it and vape. Also sounds like a lot of room for failure on this PV, like electronic parts of it, usually we all only have to worry about a switch failing but what happens when the circuit board fails?

Sorry to sound like a .....?............To late...

This is not for everyone and if you think its to complex and over the top, then obviously you shouldn't get one, but I do appreciate your productive post, your opinion is dually noted....

Cisco...

You take criticism well...

The electronic part of a mod can be designed not to be the weak link. Factory batteries have biased us away from complicated circuitry because of their failure rate.

Find me a mechanical switch with over 80 volt breakdown, 0.010 ohms on resistance, 60 amp current rating, 2 to 4 million cycles at a 95% reliability rating. Oh, and smaller than a tach switch. Think less than a dollar a copy would be too much?

Of course, some people still use tungsten in their flashlights.

I skimmed the thread here.

I see a lot of people aren't keen on the idea of this.
It might be more than the average vaper may really need.
But, we all fill our lives with overly complicated things we don't need.

Regardless of if you're down with this device or not, something like this is going to have to happen for Vaping to evolve.

Maybe, we won't land on devices like this as things grow. Perhaps it'll be niche and the simple PV systems will remain the core of the experience.
But, this is still such a young market. It has a ton of potential and the more directions we branch out the better our chances of appealing to more Smokers and bringing Vaping to a more accepted and main-stream place.

Some people like things simple. Some people just love gadgets.
We're going to have to all be willing to embrace the evolution of vaping!
Remember, these things save lives! Anything that can potentially be a step forward in our movement is good.

So, maybe this isn't your thing. That's fine. No one is going to force you to buy or use this.
But, we're all on the same side here.
We shouldn't be squawking at each other like we're fighting over what Video Game console is better.
We aren't a bunch of 13-year-old angst ridden boys. We're adults.

That being said:
I think it may be too much for me.

I'll admit, I'd absolutely love to give something like this a serious spin. But, I'm sure it would be out of my price range for a single PV to just "give a spin".
I'm pretty content with my basic tube/battery setup right now, though.

Still; I support this 110% and welcome any advances in vaping!
Even if they may not be my particular cup of tea.

Hello everyone,
I'm one of the creators/engineers working the development of "The Pulse" with Cisco. I wanted to take a moment to answer some of your technical questions and respond to some of your concerns.

First of all, I see some concern over the complexity of this PV. While this may possibly be the most technologically advanced PV in the world, I assure you that we are doing everything we can to make it as simple as possible for anyone to use. Right out of the box it will come pre-loaded with a default profile, so you can literaly put batteries in it, connect an atty and begin vaping. When you want to change your vaping profile, you can connect it to a PC via a USB cable, open the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and select or create a new profile.

The GUI will come with many pre-set profiles to choose from. When you click on each one, a graph will show you a picture of the profile's power curve (power vs time) to give an idea of what the profile will feel like when you vape with it. Thats all there is to it for the simple use. For the more advanced users, there is an advanced mode. In the advanced mode the user can specify the pulse width, on-time, off-time, segment duration, pulse frequency...etc for each of the 10 segments of a profile. We give the user the option to break up the profile into 10 seperate definable segments, though I doubt most users will need to use all 10. After you've tweeked the settings to your liking, you can save it to a file for future use, trade with your friends, etc.

Regarding efficiency, there are only a few electronic components in line with the flow of energy to the atomiser and we have very carefully selected them for maximum efficiency. Based on our calculations and prototype testing thus far, we expect efficiency to be 90%-95%. There is very little loss in this design.

Regarding battery power roll-off compesation, this PV will be constantly monitoring the battery power and as the battery begins to weaken, the PV will automatically inrease the pulse width and duty cycle. This means that the user will not notice that the battery is weakening until the battery is depleated and needs to be re-charged. Of course, there will be a cutoff point where the PV will prevent the user from operating past the batteries maximum discharge point. (Safety cutoff)

Date/time stamping will be implemented and when the operator connects the PV to a PC, they will be able to view their vaping history in all kinds of ways. (vape duration, vapes/hour, vapes/day, vapes/week, average, min, max, ......etc)

Thank you to everyone who has commented so far. We are reading all of your comments and taking all of your feedback into consideration. Please continue to comment and question as it is helping us tweek this design to accomodate as many people's ideas as possible.

Thanks,
Doug

I completely agree, it's a great idea just not for everyone...

I have a copy of a post from Dougp925, a member here on the forums and also one of the engineers/creators of the Pulse. He is more qualified to answer some of the technical questions some people might have.

Wow..... Doug are you asking for a laundry list? :)

The vaping history scares me.. I'll be able to know exactly how much I vape? I won't be able to lie to myself anymore? :)

I'm curious, with all of the pulsing and checking this does/will do, will it be able to check on the atty? Do burn cycles? Magically extend it's life for years?

I assume that it'll have a USB port for computer hook up - will it also function as a charger / passthough mode? (I live in front of computers)

I'm sure there will be more questions comments, but the coffee is just starting to kick in... :)

What an excellent idea! Right now, we all are using computers: we take it out of the packaging, plug it in and use it. We dont necessarily go in and change all the settings, but we COULD if we were so inclined. Sounds the same with this PV.

If we stay in the *simple* stage, we wont advance the product line, so I see this as a HUGE step in the right direction. Also, more and more people will become interested with the complexity alone, wanting to better it, to make this an invaluable part of growing the vaping market. Hats off to the development team, you guys rock!

Cisco;

Great project, I was spitballing something similar, but I'll wait to see what you guys are coming up with.

I am an amateur machinist, and electronics experimenter.

If you feel like releasing control software for Linux, shoot me a PM, I'd love to offer any help I can!

Again, really cool idea, and if theres a newsletter, or email subscription to get latest inf, again, PLMK!

Perhaps, it seems like too many choices available in one device. Some like choice, some like simplicity. But I think that once you find your favorite settings for your own juices, atties and time of day or fill in the blank, you'll be set. It will take some time to dial in your own preferences. Just like it took time to figure out your current preferences.
