Well I re soldered it back together but it's still shorting out. I can see that neither post is touching it from the top, but can't figure it out????????????????????

Shorting without the wick?
Speaking of shorts...
First I'd like to say a BIG thanks to Dan and BJ for all the great advise and help in this thread. I finally took the SS wick plunge after reading this thread and just got my wick in today and feverishly made my first SS wick for my nasty tasting Smoktech rebuildable I got a week ago. So I'm a newb with this stuff.
I thought my first attempt was perfect and I had great flavor but not much vapor. I can live with that, but now after about an hour of use my Provari is tossing out an E2 (short) error. It'll fire for 1 second but thats it before the E2 pops up. I haven't bumped it to knock the wick out of place so I don't know what is causing this now. I can tell you that the wick was a little tight going in the hole so maybe that's shorting out? If it helps any, I used my Nichrome 32 ga that I already had from previous mod work.
Lol broke mine on first attempt with ss mesh kept popping coil then i snapped the wire on the post .i guess it was too tight in the hole i had to force it and it made it longer from pulling the center out .Is there a vid of someone doing the whole thing any help is appreciated .
tank and mesh ordered...
Ok, I've gone through a full tank now and have a few questions.
Taste randomly gets very nasty, Its a burning rubber kind of nasty taste. What the hell is it?
Could a short somehow cause this?
I suspect I still have a short because when I first made this wick n coil I was getting 2.3ohms but now its down to 1.6 on my Provari. And it's still giving me an E2 error when I crank it up any higher than 3.5v.
Finally, I caved and used the cigarette wrapping paper method as BJ mentioned. This seemed to be successful. The coil is holding steady at 2.4ish ohms (still breaking in, I JUST wrapped it) and has a nice, even glow when dry burned. I'm running it at 4.0v right now. Taste is just a little bit off, but seems to be improving.
On the cigarette paper method...does one do just the top/coil part or the top/coil + the part that passed through the wick hole...or the whole thing? ...or perhaps some variant that includes other preparation?
