OK, I gotta' ask now:

How the heck does one remove the standpipe - you seem to call them "posts" - from the lower base? I mean, ok - I got ticked and honked the top-plate to remove it, but I saw a line indicating a press-fit.

If I can get the standpipe out, I might be able to cobble a better mod for the !@#*&^! gizmo.

Poppa when mine shorted out, I tried to rewire it and it failed too. I wound up taking a peice of Gem Clip and soldering it in place for a solid post and drilling a hole in the side just like a gennissis.

Yeah, the hole-in-the-side is a triviality - everyone seems to debate what silly drill to use: a hot pin works right the first time.

These stupid standpipes and the nichrome/shorting - therein lie the rub.. I keep thinking we need a supply of merely 3 "plates": top, middle and bottom - using easily available tubing for the standpipe, (think K&S and hw stores, hobby, etc). If the plates were available in several diameters to fit several common tubings, then problem solved. Everyone would just mix and match.

Design-wise, I see the Vivi Tank as more flexible than the Vivi Nova - I hate these silly atty-tips and condoms. Otoh, the Vivi Nova continually tastes better than the Tank - even when both use SS wicks. Be interesting to learn why.

I feel like we are all flailing like mad, and only the Chinese are making money. Very frustrating.

60mm #500 mesh wick for those who don't believe.
I only oxidize the part under the coil. The rest of the wick can touch any metal part, the wick will never cause a short if the coil is isolated. This wick is snug but not tight in the 3/32 hole. Could probably go with 70mm. It still needs trimming for length in the pic. This is the wick blowing out vaper for 17 continuous seconds in the previously posted video.

Here are two 60mm 500 mesh, the one on the white mod is the last I made and it is 33g 5/6 2.8 ohms and the black is the one in the video 32g 6/7 that is now reading 2.6 ohms after a week of use. These 500 wicks are the most vaper, the most flavor, and the most TH I have experienced in 4 years of vaping. In fact my sweetspots are all under 5v which is rare for me.

In this pic you can see that the bottom of the wick has a spiral from the wick not being a perfect rectangle. On this installation I put this spiral to the top and crimped the inside roll shut. This has eliminated the squirting out the top and occasional mini vape rings. The volcanic action of rising heated juice now seems to come out the sides under the coil and less from the center hole.

I'm having a very similar problem that Dawg described... massive TH with coughing, a feeling of inhaling un-vaporized juice, which is also evidenced by a lot of sputtered juice on the bottom of the mouthpiece. I can see "volcanic action" of the juice if I apply power without a mouthpiece. Using a side hole did help a little bit; at a minimum, it tightened up the draw, which I kinda prefer as the bottom hole was rather airy on a 510-510 adapter.

BJ43, are you just crimping the top hole shut with, say, a pair of pliers? I may try this... being new to these SS wicks, I assumed the juice coming up through the center was crucial to these working... I guess not?

I also have no idea how you are getting 60mm rolled up that tightly... I have a hard enough time with 25x40mm, and wear a blister on my thumb rolling..rollling...rolling... :)

Just crimped the center roll with a needle nose.
Use a very thin paper clip. Large center holes are a problem and do not aid wicking and just spit unvaped juice.

This can't be right...

Just coiled a SS 400 wick, Coils appear to be about 1.5mm a part. With the dry test I got a nice even glow. During a wet test I noticed that the liquid appear to be "boiling" on the coil along with some vapor and sizzle. Should I tweak or redo?

If not hot spots when wet, vape that baby :)

Okay all good, thanks. I was getting more boiling than vapor..It seemed a bit strange. It was nothing like BJ43's video:

The one that melted his tube was all sizzle and vapor...

Just as a note...I get better vapor/flavor from my Cheesecloth Vivi Nova..which is sorta making me scratch my head...maybe its just a matter of breaking in the ss wick?

If it is just boiling and no vaper give it a little more voltage.

Perfect - Thanks.

This now makes sense. I guess its just a balance, ie finding the voltage sweet spot, between boiling (too low) and burnt (too high) for a SS wick. I was treating this with kid gloves like a new cotton wick, starting with a really low voltage, and waiting to get through a short breakin period at that lower voltage to prevent any cotton burning and then slowly turning voltage up.

I assume there should be some breakin period for a new SS wick, but it appears that you can go right to the optimal voltage level from the start.

Break it in at the lowest voltage that gives you vaper and slowly increase to your sweet spot. It gets better after a few ml.
