Ok, its not just me then! One thing to say is that the problems are independent of the mod..I have several (!) and dicodes/d2/sx-mini and DNA40s all do pretty much the same thing with this. One thing I will try is a pulsed-Ti microcoil and maybe a full-on dry burned NiFe30 microcoil. Failing that, I'll try a @qorax-style touching Ni200 just to see (of course that will be the one that works!!)....

Anyway, lets keep in touch about progress either here or by PM...!

cheers

steve
I have read that TI coils for TC do not need to be spaced and work fine as a microcoil so I am hoping this could be a fix. Tonight I will check out my 510 and run all the parts through the ultrasonic cleaner and give the NI200 another try since the TI won't arrive until Thursday.

They do pretty much. Ti already has a very thin oxide coating which acts as insulator but can be a bit inconsistent so a bit of dry pulsing (until the wire starts going blue/yellow not grey!!) can help up front. If you dont do that, the TC behaviour can be erratic at first but calms down after a few draws as the oxide layer is re-established I think!!

As for the 510, I certainly saw a difference after I cleaned it but, as I said, the resistance went below what I was expecting for some reason unknown. I have also seen the R changing depending on how far in or out the screw is....

Wow, I've only played with it for an hour or so, but so far it's the closest thing to a Challice III that I've tried. It was everything that I was expecting so far.

I also need to give a thumbs up to Sedge, when he said it would come ready to go with some spare parts I was thinking it would have a coil in it. What I got was about a GEM and a half worth of parts with a complete starter kit (batteries, juice, wick, wire and even a coilmaster). It's was built and wicked and all I had to do was put in a battery and fill the tank. I'm used to getting a few extras when I buy stuff in the classifieds, but this was a whole new level.

having said that, Im begining to see why people are selling these things on...

I can see how it's not for everyone, but I'll certainly be keeping mine :)

it is just so bloody finicky with TP builds...I'll tame it at some point but its pretty frustrating as I know how good it can be, just that it goes well for a while then does something crazy!

I am trying to make time to put a SS build in it. Stay tuned. [emoji41]

Just put in a 6 spaced wrap resistherm around 2.5mm. R is ok and stable but the vape is pretty anaemic. Rewicked but not much improvement. This after about 2 hours screweing around with 26 and 28g Ti....I think the wicking is wrong somehow and Ithought I had that down.. frustrating day on the vape front lo!! Merkava playing up now also...one of those days!

Okay, this morning I found time to build the GEM with SS.

First I tried SS 316 L 26 awg that, for the time being, I prefer. (I expect my preference will soon change, in the next few weeks.) Built a very promising contact coil (5 wraps, 2.5 mm Kuro). The coil measured 0.332 ohms.

It would have nicely fit the GEM chamber; but when dry burned, as required, one of the legs snapped (with a hot leg spark) likely coz the wire was too tightly pressed to the base. Pulled what remained of that coil.

Built a 2.4 mm on a screwdriver using SS 430, 28 awg. Dry burned, wicked, and placed in the GEM chamber. Ohm'd at 0.36. BTW, this is, again at this time, my second most desirable SS.

Placed the GEM on my DNA 200, loaded my SS 430 Profile, opened eScribe, where everything shows as expected.

Hits and hold temperature: 450F, and, could easily go higher...tried 490 w/o issue. Vapor and flavor good to outstanding.

Bon voyage!

I have had great successes with 28AWG at 2.4mm. In the 1 Ohm mark. Vapes astoundingly.

Q, how many wraps on that coil? Is that Ni200?

I've had my TC build nailed on the GEM for about a month now, thinking about doing a nickel build for the wife! She's finally taking to vaping but she runs a subtank mini right now at it just hits too had for her, I think a GEM build around 1Ohm would be perfect for her!

Wondering if anyone else has this issue? Only had my GEM since the end of last week and it's been trouble free so far, but I've found that more often than not when I open the top to refill the stem in the center comes out with the cap. Not a huge issue, but I'm getting tired of having to remove it from the top cap which usually takes a bit of work to do without put pliers on it.

6-7 wraps of Nichrome over a 2.4mm bit keeps me around the 1 Ohm mark. And no, that was not a Ni200 build, I have another video on Ni for the Gem nonetheless.

Maybe chimney would be a better description. I tend to mix similar juices instead of having just one thing at time in the tank, when the that piece come out with the top cap the tank drains onto the coil and out the air hole. Not a huge issue now that I know to watch for it and I may have to finish the tank off before I open it. I'm really more worried that I'm not going to be able to separate it from the top cap without doing damage to it at some point.

As far as I know, that is not supposed to come off at all.

Still don't get it, how are you able to dislodge the chimney?
