So I picked up an EHPro Squape clone for $20 to compare with the Gem. I know, it's a clone, bad me, but functionally it's the pretty much the same and if I'm going to spend $$$ on an atomizer, I'll get another Gem. Also, I just wanted to compare the two tanks given certain similarities.

From the get go, the Squape clone is not as intense in flavor, which I suspect arises from the larger atomization chamber and longer and wider draw in comparison to the Gem. Building on the Squape clone is a lot easier though. Maybe with a 3mm coil things would improve flavor, but I wanted to use the same 2.5mm coil and e-liquid setup as in the Gem.

Filling the Squape clone is annoying compared to the Gem. It really could have benefited from having a top refill mechanism.

Other thing one notices is that Gem's approach to AFC is superb compared to the Squape clone. The Gem is infinitely and easily adjustable from 2.5mm on down. On the Squape clone, it's the much older dial-...... approach. Not bad, but not as good. On the other hand, some people may prefer the ability to go up to 3mm on the airflow with the Squape.

Finally, the dimensions of the Squape are just ridiculous. The thing is nearly as tall as my mod. ;)

the squape Rs fixes some of those issues - smaller chamber and overall shorter device. 'Ridiculous' is a bit harsh. The R is not much taller than a subtank mini (excluding DT), taifun (about the same), probably shorter than a KF V4 (although I dont have one) or a Erl. Anyway I love my Rs I have to say. Wish I had a GEM to compare it to...wink wink nudge nudge...:)

Me dunno. That extra 10mm or thereabouts of thick 22mm steel is what makes it look goofy to me. Reminds me more of the original Kanger Subtank, though not as thick. Also, when you put it up next to the Gem, that's when it starts to look ridiculous. The drip tip of the Gem ends where the Reloaded drip tip begins. However, looks are a matter of subjective preference.

The R(s) does look to be a much better iteration of the Squape Reloaded design (though refill ports and a better AFC would have been nifty), so I'll be interested to see how you compare it with the Gem.

Well I have a Calix for example which is very small, GEM-like sizewise and I like that too (after a few teething problems) but it is a different thing so I dont really compare them as such. I havde an old atlantis with the 5ml extende tank. That thing is pretty big but I still like it. Again, they are all different and function well in their own way. Is my Squape Rs 'better' than my subtanks or the calix or the atlantis of the Taifun GT2 (that is big atty!!)...? Not to me. They all have a place in my rotation.

I was mostly judging it on flavor, otherwise I'm sure I'll come up with something for the Squape clone. There's less demanding e-juices I can use with that and be quite happy, especially with the larger air flow.

I think the Squape is up to 'demanding' e-juices ;) For me, it is better than most of the drippers i have (and no longer use) with the possible exception of the ByLeo Apollo and maybe the Magma and Veritas...anyway, dont want to turn this into a squape vs GEM argument which would be silly!!!

So when can I get my GEM?!?!?! This is important now as I need to cross-reference my observations with @Yozhik in a potentially far-reaching comparitive study. I am happy to sacrifice myself for the common good of the entire vaping community! I can supply my delivery address upon request! Haha :)

time to sleep. Long day and Im starting to ramble (as usual) ;)

Let me revise that to demanding in the sense that the juice flavor only does well in a compact atomizer setup like the Gem. Other e-liquids I have do better in larger atomizer setups and would probably not work well in the Gem. Wasn't looking to start a war either, just give a comparison. ;)

Absolutely!! Agree completely! In any case, your posts have certainly re-sold me on the GEM - as if that was necessary! haha...

I like the comparison but the flavor of the gem vs squape is build, juice, user and wick material subjective. I personally love the flavor of my squape but I've noticed that it's different per build once I change it up and that's the same for any atty. I normally use kgd and it's the best in my opinion. I recently got a sample of some cotton bacon and figured, "why not?" Big mistake. Lots of vapor but a lot less flavor. I went back to my kgd and felt a huge relief on that next vape. I also got a squape rs and it's really short. I still can't wait for the gem and it's beauty on top of my wizards. I have no doubt that the flavor is awesome. I like the vapor and flavor of my erlkonigin but I'm tired of the maintenance of it. Time for a new atty to sit on top of my wizard and the wizard should have it's magic gem.

It's really easy to build on but it seems like you have to wick it perfectly right to keep it from getting dry hits or leaking. You can't rebuild it while it's full (I can but it's a pain.) I also have to wipe out down after every fill. Compared to my squape, it's difficult. I can cut a wick at the edges with my squape and it'll wick perfectly every time. This is why i can't wait for the gem.

Is this set to release in July then? Will it be obtainable only from Markbugs website? I want one now :(

Not sure on the release date, but I believe that it will be available from MarkBugs first, then resellers a week later. UPS took 3 days from pickup in Romania to delivery in Chicago.

I thought the plan now was to release everywhere at approx the same time!

Hi Stan,
I have some bad news, due to some delays on the production and some packaging external supplies we have to delay the release date in first week of July.
And all our resellers that want to have the gem will have it in the same day like us.
Thank you,
Bugs

Last update via Qorax. Looks like resellers will have it the same day - I guess I had older info in my brain.
