Ive noticed on refills and using vg when you turn it upside down wait and allow the juice to all flow to bottom making sure the thick vg juice isn't blocking the 2 wicking holes on center chamber maybe about 20 seconds to be safe then close off airflow. Flip it back over unscrew top fill juice.. close top and flip back over and again wait for juice to settle at bottom and juice away from air holes then just open airflow flip it right side up and your good to go. Not sure if it matters that i do it this way or even if its been mentioned this thread is too long to sift through it just seems to work

Got some dry hits last night...for the first time.

I'm using 28g Kanthal, ... cotton...5 wraps for a 0.95 ohm coil (typically I make a 1.1-1.2 ohm'er, but I shorted myself a wrap.)...running at 10 watts...

Happened after refilling, so maybe I filled too high?
I was pretty sure my juice was 50/50, but there's a chance I grabbed the 80/20 stuff...higher VG.
Any thoughts?

is the dimensions of oring known? especially one that holds the repaired piece

these are the sizes that have been posted before

GEM O-ring Sizes (OD x Thickness)
1) Drip Tip: ................... 6mm x 1mm
2) Center Topcap Hole: ... 6mm x 1mm
3) Fill Holes: ................. 3mm x 1mm
4) AFC Ring: ................. A small piece from a 1.5mm thick O-ring

Here is the list of the larger O rings that the Gem uses:
Interior diameter x thickness
-8mm x 1mm Bottm of the deck
-13mm x 1mm Seals de deck
-15mm x 1mm Tank

should definitely work and if you still have a leak its most likely will have to be due to not enough cotton, i never even have a drip and leave it afc open all the time
I still get some leakage on refills. Should I leave extra Rayon on the ends??? It's not much that comes out but just annoying. Could it also be my liquid being too thin?

Got my first mechanical mod today. Its an 18650 MCR, beautifully made and visually stunning. This coming weekend I'm going to build a coil on my Ti Gem. need some advice here since I've never vaped on an unregulated mod and I'm nervous about all I read on this forum about inexperienced vapers using mechs. I'm essentially mouth to lung and go for flavour, hence the Gem. Usually vape between 9 and 12 watts with 1.2 to 1.7 ohm coils. I have 28g Kanthal, and Cotton Bacon. Will use a new 18650 AW IMR battery. What ohms should I aim for, keeping safety in mind? I often keep the power on for a longish time, puffing out a few drags before I take a deep one to inhale. How safe is this on a mech?

no problem hope it works out for you
The cotton really tastes great. I bought some squares of Japanese cotton to try out back in September and finally tried it. Now I might have to get more.

How many refills do you get with the same piece of cotton in the Gem?

think thats just a matter or preference, some are .... about changing often and some go pretty long using the same cotton, as for me I'm a mtl vaper at about 1.4 on the gem i might change cotton around 5 tanks for strong flavors or at 10 tanks when I'm just vaping a simple menthol mix and even then the coil isn't gunked up too much but its always nice to dry burn the coil and add some fresh cotton.

Hey bob. The math to be safe is very very simple. You just have to research the batteries you're using. if you post make and model I can help you. Also make sure there isn't a short. In the case of the gem stick To 28 gauge wire and make sure the deck screws are in there rightly. Ensure you aren't touching the sides of the deck with the coil.

As far as mechanicals and safety goes The math works like this.

4.2 (the average upper output of batteries through 18650) / resistance of the coil = amp draw. You can pretty safely assume the 18650 500 or 350 batteries you're going to use all put out 4.2 -4.3 max when charged up. And you don't want to exceed 75% of the battery's rated continuous output.

So if you have an 18650 battery that's rated at safe for 20 Amps continuous output and you wanted to see if your .7 ohm build worked safely

.7 / 4.2= 6. More than safe enough. You'd be hard pushed to make a kanthal coil on the gem that would be an issue with most decent 18650 coils. What you need to Worry about is shorting. If you attach the gem to a mech mod and fire it and nothing happens. Stop firing it. If a battery has any damage don't use it. If you feel any heat develop in the tube of the mod Stop firing and remove the battery

Here's an example
Of one of my batteries which would be a safety issue fwiw. I just saw his after charging

In the case of good batteries with continuous draws rated at 20+ amps you'd have to be building down to .35 or lower before our have to worry about the continuous draw safety. For what we in here do with the gem that's not an issue. U less you build with nickel. Forget. And put it on a mech mod.

Just wicked my second Gem and that flavor is great too. Cotton might be better for me???
Why? What do you normally use? I find I alternate based on flavors but I tend to favor cotton bacon in the gems for its density, wicking quickly, and neutral flavor. Because of the gems soevisk waiving. Properties in find denser material than cotton pads works better though I have Muji and KGD in house for some atomizers they aren't my preferred in this case. For my Snickers flavor I prefer rayon

I've been using rayon in them getting decent flavor but these cotton pads seem to give me more. I will see how out works for a while especially with refilling.

I still want to try SS mesh in them next. I heard it works great also.
