So...

There is already a thread for the "older people" 55 and up, and one for the middle aged 35-54.

What about our own discussion group for the Generation Y? (25-34)

If the geezers can discuss their vaping rheumatism issues in a group (
), and if the 35-54 can share their e-cig gear investments together... why can't we have a place for our PV-related Sesame Street/Nintendo/Nirvana stories?

Anyone wants to join in?

Here's to not being old.
Yet.
And to stopping the analogs so that we might "more likely" get there someday.

My vaping story:

So I started getting palpitations that would awaken me suddenly in the night. My grandad died of a heart attack at 28, and I'm 26... I felt like I was headed down the same whiskey-guzzling chain-smoking path. My grandmother also has COPD and such, I wrote about it here. I quit drinking for the most part... as in no more benders, no more hard liquor, and only an occasional beer with a pizza or after mowing the lawn, so it was time to work on the coffin nails.

A few years ago I had tried out a really crappy Gamucci e-cig bought from a gas station, and thought it was alright, but when the battery died I went back to the old smokey-chokeys. This time I had become alarmed at my state of health, and was not going to keep smoking the analogs. I bought another couple of crappy e-cigs out of nicotine desperation, a 21st Century and two Mistic batteries.

They tied me over pretty well for the week and a half before I found this forum, and got recommended a KGO starter kit. It arrived this past Saturday and there's no looking back.

Oh, and I havn't had any of those startling palpitations in about 22 days, make your own inferences on that one. :vapor:

Ok, WTH, I'm back to ECF after a long break, so I might as well tell my story.

I'm a card carrying geek, so as soon as I heard that there was an *electronic* cigarette, I had to check it out :)

In Sept. '10, a friend referred me to ECF after getting a Riva kit, and I started researching. It all sounded quite interesting, so after much deliberation I picked up an Ego kit off of ElectroNicStix (props for the awesome service). While waiting on that to arrive, I got a sudden bonus check and picked up a gas station special on the way home (I don't even remember the brand name, but I've never *ever* heard it referenced anywhere, so I can only assume it was a rebranded POS). I'm sort of impatient when it comes to new toys :) I was *quite* displeased by it, tasted like complete garbage and was extremely disheartening. I toughed it out as much as I could, but it didn't really make any difference in the amount I was smoking.

Well my Ego kit finally arrived, and it was an amazing difference. I really liked the juice I picked up (it was Dekang USA Mix, and despite the bad rap that Chinese juice gets around here, it's still my go-to vape). I remember just cruising ECF and playing around with it, not really thinking about it. At some point I looked at the clock, and realized that it had been 5 hours since I had smoked (I was a 2 pack a day or more smoker). I remember thinking something along the lines of "Hmmm... It's been a while, I need a smoke... Nah, screw it, I'm good". That was the moment I really believed I could quit.

I continued to use my E-Cig exclusively for the next 4 months, with varying degress of satisfaction, but always slowly becoming less and less enthusiastic about the whole thing. I have an hour+ commute to work, and it became increasingly more difficult to come up with something that could last my entire drive to work. I experimented with Joye 510 cartos and Ego mega cartos, but both seemed to only last 15-20 goot drags before they went to crap. The leakage from them was horrible, and I was becoming more and more annoyed at the whole process of pulling out the syringes every morning (these were the Joye cartos that had the little plastic syringe fill hole), getting juice freaking everywhere and feeling like I was constantly refilling just to have the performance drop off after 10 drags. I ultimately started throwing them away after just a single use (they always seemed usable if still not very good for the first fill, then garbage afterwards). This became increasingly expensive though, and that started to take its toll with the economic issues we've been having.

I finally gave up and went back to analogs for my drive to/from work. I'd smoke 2-3 cigs on the way to work, then vape all day (my company is cool with me dripping at my desk thank god, or I would have gone back to analogs completely), then 2-3 cigs on the way home. This continued for another year with me continually telling myself that 4-6 a day *had* to be better than 40 right?

I knew that there were juice fed mods and things of that nature out there, but they were always incredibly expensive, and I really have very little discretionary income to throw around. Just keeping up with juice purchases and the occasional atomizer was all I could do for a time. As my 4 Ego batteries dwindled down to 3, then 2 I knew that something had to give...

About 4 months ago my stress level kicked up quite a bit, combined with a large number of site visits at work (I'm a consultant), and I began sneaking off to smoke an analog at increasing intervals. I was always very introverted, and am quite self conscious when it comes to PVs in public. I would much rather go stand in the rain and smoke an analog then try to explain to someone what vaping is all about, so anytime I was onsite it was always analogs for me. Shortly thereafter (about 3 months ago), I had my 3rd Ego battery die on me (leaving me only one). This was really the straw that broke the camel's back. I had a couple of 30ml bottles of juice, and a spare atty still in the wrapper, but operating on only one battery really made life tough. I used my Ego as much as I could, but I would always have to go smoke an analog whenever it was on the charger. One smoke break always led to another though, and I found that my Ego was less and less able to curb my need for a smoke. It's funny really, every time I smoked an analog, I hated it, and wished it was my E-cig, but at the same time the E-cig always left me kinda wanting a smoke.

That continued up until a few weeks ago, when I realized that my smoking rate had climbed back up to a pack a day. I've never really quit vaping, I have always used my E-cig every day, but I just seemed to be vaping less and less while smoking more and more. When I realized how much I was smoking, I knew something had to be done.

Well fast forward to last week, when my tax return arrived. It was *much* higher than expected (Yay for my first tax year filing married!), and I managed to talk the wife into letting me drop some $$ on E-Cig parts (she was understandably skeptical, given my previous slide from glory, but was ultimately in favor of anything that might reduce the number of cigs I smoke). I ordered a few new batteries and a USB PT, so my battery issue should be sorted for now. I also picked up a few new cartomizer designs after realizing that A: the joye ones I was using are probably crap compared to what's out there and B: there are some really interesting new designs (CE2, fluxomizer, etc.). I also picked up a tank mod and some Ego-T gear in hopes that they may resolve my long commute issues.

Everything is scheduled to arrive this week, and I'm looking forward to beginning part 2 of the vaping saga :D

Sounds a lot like myself. Was waking up in the middle of the night with the heart palpitations. Got to the point where I actually said to my girlfriend "I'm going to die if I do not stop smoking..." Now I sleep like a rock for the most part. I still love my Bourbon, though every once in a while. Don't know if I'm ready to give up the Maker's quite yet.

thanks for the nice message.

I understand. I'm not like you - I actually enjoy explaining what vaping is, but I am self conscious at the same time and I am not used yet to other people's reactions when they realize I'm vaporizing my lungs... It must be worst when you're introverted.

Even though I'm still a newbie in the PV world, I also had a bad experience with an e-cig in the past and I was surprised to see how much the e-cigs have evolved and are still evolving for the better. I hope this new gear delivery you're talking about will make you quit analogs for real!
Give us an update when the saga #2 begins ;)

Too bloody right... Last week during peer editing in my college English class, we had a couple of students that chose smoking in public as their thesis. To make a long story short, they mentioned electronic cigarettes and totally screwed the facts. They made the conclusions that they were still unhealthy, contained antifreeze ingredients, and were not to be trusted as they were made by big tobacco. Needless to say, it wasn't easy keeping my teeth together on that one! I grumbled a bit and tried focusing on punctuation errors instead. But there does seem to an issue in this country with people jumping to serious conclusions with naught but fearmongering and blatant conjecture as their guide.

Ha!Ha! This cracks me up (in a good way... ) I am "in the middle aged group" (43... almost 44) but hey... I grew up on Sesame Street. I have played Nintendo... not the portable hand held stuff either... the old school console system, the one where the fix for a game not working was "blowing on the cartridge" or in the port (sometimes both... lol)... and Nirvana is still in my music rotation, along with Pearl Jam... :p

Good for you all. This should be a fun thread. I check 'em all out and I hope you all don't mind me intruding for a minute...

Now it's way past my bedtime and I gotta go drink my metamucil... so you young-un's better keep it down... ;-)

I've told my quit story too many times, but I'm done with smokes and that's all that really matters at this point.

I'm a father, husband, IT guy, PC gamer, fishin' fool "stuck" in Eastern Idaho's beautiful back country. Suffices to say, I'm a pretty happy guy, even more-so now that smokes are out of the picture. I'll be 26 in May and my wife is pregnant again...looks like I'll be 44 when I boot the kids out of the house and proceed to do old guy stuff.

I'm 34 so I still am in the game. I quit cigs back in 2010 with nasal snuff and snus and picked up vaping recently for the fun of it. I really enjoy it. I work for a hotel chain. Im originally from the Miami area now living in San Antonio unfortunately. I can't get any decent seafood here. Red Lobster? Fogettaboutit... There is one Mexican joint for every 5 people here it seems. My wife is Mexican so she loves that. Odelay!

Some older folk still have a sense of humor......

10 Things Gen Y Won’t Pay for

Checking Since the beginning of time, we’ve gotten free checking as students: Chase, Bank of America, Wachovia, Capital One all offer it to us. If we are no longer eligible as a full time student we have two options: A. Lie and tell them we are or B. Get direct deposit.

Long Distance Long distance was something our grandparents worried about. It doesn’t matter how far away from the person you are when you call them–it’s all has to go through outerspace anyway.

Mail Quick–how much does a stamp cost? 32, 42, whatever, it changes more often than we ever need to mail something

Music First of all, we haven’t bought a CD since Jock Jams. Secondly, even if we don’t feel like beating the system with Bit-Torrents or whatever the newest Napster-like-service is, we’ll get it off YouTube. Forget radio, when we have Pandora Radio–it plays what we like and there are no interruptions.

Wireless While wireless internet is a necessity, it doesn’t mean we have to pay for it. First thing we do when we move into a new apartment is look to see which of your neighbors wireless we can pick up.

Travel Agents Let’s be serious–we don’t need any help with travel advice or finding the best price.

Books Cookbooks, phonebooks, appointment books–why buy a book when you bought a computer?

Porn If you pay for porn you either A. Have a problem or B. Have a problem.

News Watching or reading the news used to be a form of entertainment. Luckily, we have better options than that for fun.

Directory Assistance There might be Gen Yers who don’t know this term. Calling 411 or information for 75 cents is ridiculous.

and this thread needed a good bump.......

I hate getting older tho.. lol the other day I found myself .....ing about breakfast cereals. Man when I was growing up cereal tasted damn good! Tons of sugar stuff was bad .... Now cause of the health nuts it doesn't taste the same. Obesity problem wasnt that bad when we were kids because we still played outside. We had the video games of course but not the level kids have now with the xbox live etc. My friends and I would ride bikes, skateboard, go swimming at the beach.

When I was a kid we had to get up the courage to talk to someone we had a crush on, now all you gotta do is post on someone's wall. I had online but it actually cost to be on per hour. Anyone remember those AOL and prodigy disks?? Haha..
