I guess the whole thing about ecigs being defined as tobacco products due to nicotine contain will come down with the FDA regs.

I bring up this topic because I can't seem to find anything about it in a single pass search on google.

So what does anyone know about funding a project to genetically alter vegtables to make them contain more nicotine?

I wouldnt worry too much as most nic concentrates are imported from other countries anyways. Very few if any yet made in USA.
I wouldnt stress too much, been hearing about the coming ban for 3 years now

If i remember right they dont want to ban it just tax the premade stuff. And get some actual testing done before anything.

Eggplant is supposed to be the highest natural concentration of all the vegetables, but other members of the nightshade family are even better. Foxglove is highest, but some of those plants are really awesome little chemical factories. I would want to be very sure of what else was being extracted at the same time.

Nothing happening on that front that I know of. Probably wouldn't matter anyway. I think it's pretty easy to change the language in the regs to include nic from any source :p

If I vaped the purple foxglove, I could get nicotine and digitalis at the same time? I'm in. I really like that signature.

My idea is just to get the ball rolling and be able to grow the crop in my own back yard. In order to get just that little bit more off the grid with vaping.

When law enforcement comes I'll just say,
These aren't the egg plants your looking for, move along.

That sounds great Zanderist and if that could happen I would be all for it. OTOH, it's quite hard to get nic out of tobacco and I doubt it would be any easier to do it with veggies.

That's a really good idea.... I would imagine it wouldn't be hard at all to get say parsley to start producing nicotine....
Only if that parsley gets in the way of tobacco and pharmaceutical sales. What's funny about the FDA is even they claim Nicotine is harmless.

"The changes that FDA is allowing to these labels reflect the fact that although any nicotine-containing product is potentially addictive, decades of research and use have shown that NRT products sold OTC do not appear to have significant potential for abuse or dependence."
US FDA
Nicotine Replacement Therapy Labels May Change
http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm345087.htm

To clarify: the FDA are stating that pure nicotine does not create dependence, although this is slightly obscured so they can continue to tax nicotine products.

I wouldn't use the terms Genetic or Modified if I we're you. All the hippies will be out with the pitchforks and links to homeopathy and natural living websites. Then the whole forum is ruined.

Oh gawd, not the hippie thing again! I thought it was all about hipsters these days!

I gotta get out more
