I find 3mm too airy and less flavorful.

A larger diameter coil should not give you a more airy vape unless your using it in a vertical orientation. Actually a larger diameter coil is likely to give you a less airy vape (assuming a horizontal coil) because it takes up more space and therefore it (and the wick) obstructs more of the air getting from below to above.

What do you think about me having to change coils every couple ML?

I think it's insane, quite frankly  Good thing you're not using factory coils. You'd be in the poorhouse in short order!

All I can think of is that you must be using very dark, very sweet or very dark and sweet juices.

Smaller coils made with thinner wire get gunked up quicker. That's my experience anyhow.

I change coils and wicks on rebuildables no more frequently than every 2 weeks, but usually longer than that. But I mostly only vape peppermint (which is virtually clear and only moderately to lightly sweet), and I don't vape above 20W at 1-1.3 ohms. On the 32g wire coils, those are only vaped at 7-9W, 1.4-1.8 ohms.

When I vape my RY4 juice my coils and wicks do need changed more frequently because the juice has some color and it's much sweeter. I'd say no more than 2 weeks and I have to rebuild.

@UncleJunkle HELPPPPPPP USSSSSS HEREEEEE WE NIEWWWWWBES STRUGGLE

Sorry, I'm not an expert and it's hard to explain a lot of stuff on a forum.

Vaping is a journey (not my quote but it's appropriate). You have to read a lot, ask questions, watch a lot of videos and pay attention to what your doing and eventually you'll get it if you're persistent. And a lot of times it's ahrd to tell what applies to you and what doesn't. But that's why you just have to keep at it and keep mental notes, if not actual notes if you're that organized.

That's why pod systems are so popular. Lots of people out there don't want to do any of the above. They want a vape that is as care free as smoking cigarettes. But there's tradeoffs. They never really find that care free vape, but they want to think they have lol.

Here’s to hoping one of the professionals can shine some light on the situation lol

Take a look at this. 1.7ish ohms, 32ga at 9 watts. Within 20 puffs I’m already getting browning. Super clear not sweet liquid from cloudberry vapors. Makes no sense lol.

Interesting about the coils, maybe I’ll give 3mm another try. Not sure why I remember it being more airy, lol. You’d recommend 3mm in an RTA?

I don't use temp control and all my coils end up having some browning under the coil. I'm not 100% sure you can avoid that.

However, if I'm seeing correctly, that brown spot is only under one coil of the coil. That may indicate a hot spot due to the wick not being too loose in that spot, therefore it's getting hotter than other parts of the coil that are more tightly packed with yo wick.

Yeah it seems that half of my coil burnt out first. Not sure how, maybe some of the wraps loosened while installing

that image just looks like standard vaping to me :)

I count the time between servicing my coils and wicks usually in months, not days or weeks. It all depends on the juice you are using and how hot your getting it. I get months use out of a coil+wicking with unflavored juice. A few weeks with flavored juices.

I only vape with temperature control.

On my squankers (many of them are in my profile image on the left) I have to service the coils more frequently as I'm using flavors. I really don't care what the coil or wick look like, I gauge having to service them by how much flavor and vapor I'm getting.

"Gunked up" coils don't work as well as clean coils.

Once I decide I need to service the coil, I carefully remove the wick and then dryburn anything left on it to clean it. Once cooled off I'll rewick (I only use the rope I got from Sallys Beauty Supply - multiple lifetime supply of it for ~$10), saturate the wick with juice and then go on my merry way of vaping.

I skimmed through the thread and didn't see it, but what wattage are you vaping at?

That 32 ga 1.7ohm was at 9 watts with cotton

Currently vaping a .85ohm 28ga at 17 watts with a little larger than half the roll of rayon as suggested. Flavor is good, we will see how long it lasts. I predict 2ml or a couple hours lol

Yeah I’ve tried to dry burn and rinse with hot water, even brush with an unused toothbrush. Generally gives me good flavor for a couple more ML and then it’s gone again. In the picture above, I had gone through not even half of my 4ml tank and it started to blacken and lose flavor. Not completely gone, but just not as flavorful. I try to keep my vape in the green as far as heat goes (on steam engine)

Oh yeah, I’ve actually watched it before, but I watched it again lol. Can’t really manipulate the roll in that same way, but I will try to cut it in half and flatten it out
It can be worked in a similar way, it just takes a lighter touch. My reasoning is that the fibers in the roll aren't exactly the most parallel, so removing clumps and aligning the remaining fibers aids in the movement of liquid. It's more like unrolling the roll than stretching the pad, but it works the same.

Just curious, what atomizer are you using 30g & 32g wire on?
That's very thin wire... 28 ga even seems thin to me (very hard to work with) Maybe (in the old days before I started vaping) for "micro coils". I would use 28ga (and if you have a drill... 32 ga "twisted" would be nice but that's a different technique that does require some skill)

That’s actually the reason I bought the 32gauge. I tried twisting 28gauge first, but the resistance was low. I just wanted to see how 32gauge would fare as a single round coil. Should I be using a torch to heat it after wrapping? I usually stick it into both posts and fire it a couple times as a long loop before I wrap it

Just fire the coil up after it's mounted on your deck. No need for all that mumbo jumbo. People used to do that back in the day. But that's not needed IMHO.

But don't fire 32g or 30g it too hot. Thin wire like that will snap if fired too hot. Trust me.

Just tried to make a twisted 32 - after I took it off the rod it got all messed up, doesn’t seem to want to maintain its rigidity.
