Very good to hear!!!

Same things I've found. I've been on spaced coils since I tested it up against a 'micro'.

Let us know how long it lasts for you over in the rayon thread too! Your now officially a member.:)

Hey Jeremy,
Just curious how you make your coils? I generally use standard micros just because they are quick and easy, but I've played around with spacing them before.... I'm sure I wasn't the first, but I found a really easy way to make the coils spaced out evenly and perfect.... A properly sized machine screw... Just wrap the wire and follow the threads... When the proper number of wraps are achieved I use a pair of pliers to hold the tails and then hit it with a torch to "lock" it in... Mount it and then "unscrew" the screw out of the threads and viola... perfect evenly spaced coil every time... :)

I have been moving to spaced coils except for the Orchid which has a very small area to build upon. The spaced coil seems to stay cleaner for a longer period of time and I can't tell a vape "quality" difference when using rayon. I have found nothing easier or more satisfying to use than a Taifun wicked with rayon. I have found that an M-1 screw held by a needle nose vice grip works well to evenly space the wraps.
To the spacers, are you torching the wire before making the coil? Why or why not?

LOL, nevermind!

I've head the machine screws for years but haven't tried it, guess don't feel the need but will soon. I'm always doing 32 on a vv/vw 20-24w max. Just started with 28 but does take a little extra time to heat in this pwr range as you know. :)

I'm glad you joined to preach on that but then your thread sharply got driven off track to DNA 40.

And back to the Taifun GT...

I have started putting vertical coils in my GT's. 30ga on a 5/64" bit, around 7 or 8 wraps (or 28ga at 8 to 9 wraps) or so to stay in the Vamo's resistance window. Use Trip Dripper's trick with a toothpick to hold the coil when mounting, then lift it a little to clear the air tube.

Wrap with rayon and do the bowtie/trailing tail cut on the wick ends coming out of the ports.

Flavor, flavor, flavor!!!

Thanks as always for bringing vaping ALL the way into the 21st Century, JeremyR!

It's probably my OCD if I have OCD... When I first started trying them I could never get them "perfect", especially with 30 or 32... There was never even spacing.... So one day I was trying to think of some sort of jig or something I could use and it just hit me to use a screw..

Love that signature but I was highly offended by something you said. When I remember what it was I will take umbrage.

I'm thinking about building a spaced chimney coil in the taifun gt next time I need to rewick. Is it a pain to wick it?

No actually easier!

Not sure specifically on the tiafun but you will want to pack the well full. Leave bit in the coil through the air hole, they should be matched pretty close. I usually start with a strip wrapped around the coil slightly snug. Wet it to hold it in place. (Or just disregard that and go straight pack.) Then take a fluffy wick and pack it around. (Spread the fibers apart and bring back together to make it really fluffy.) You will need 2 needles for this job. Wet it down really well let soak add more juice. Vape it, if flavor is muted or taste wick use the needle to slide beside the coil and run it around it to loosen the wick a little.

Vape it, when you get a dry coil hit disassemble and inspect you will see a gap at the coil or all the way around it. At the gap on the outside of the chamber use one needle side it between the wick and wall, take a light tuft of rayon tuck it in with the other needle. Proceed till no more gap showing. If you get one gap by the coil that is in a hard spot take a small tuft of rayon and push it in with the needle. * you only want a light contact fully around the coil. Too tight it will mute the flavor!

Vape it, if it happens again check and add more as needed. Usually takes two repacks, after that your good for weeks!!

Check the Vcore thread about halfway I went to straight packing and think I had descriptions and pics, by the end I was straight rayon and started the rayon thread... The rest is history!!!

I just attempted my first vertical coil in the taifun gt. I originally thought I would do it spaced but quickly found out there isn't enough room at least for 28g kanthal. I ended up doing a 1.3 ohm microcoil on a drill bit roughly the same size as the air hole. Wicking it was pretty tough. With the size coil I put in there, there wasn't much space between the coil and the post. I ended up making two thin rayon wicks and running one on both sides of the coil, then taking small pieces and fluffing them to add around the coil. Then I had to thin the tails a bit. So far so good. I've only hit it a few times while I'm sitting here typing, but good flavor and vapor, no dry hits or leaking. We'll see how long it lasts me. I had planned on taking pictures but I took a few on the first couple of attempts and ended up pulling it back out. By the time I got it right, I had given up on taking pics lol
