i have been on multiple interviews usually only to find out they hired someone else. i went on a discouraging interview today. the starting pay, low at $12 per hour. the health insurance stinks they pay 50%, apparently the plan is $300 per week. so they pay $150 and you have to pay $150.

let me get this straight. 12x40=480
(25%or so)taxes-$120 give or take
insurance -$150
480-120-150=$210 left over? less then 1/2? gee what do i do with $200 per week? wipe myself?
when i asked about vaping, i was told no one was allowed to vape or smoke anywhere on the 40 acre property. gee where do i sign up? they fire anyone that gets caught even once.... well at least they were up front about it, crossed off the list. im not working there. what we need are jobs back, manufacturing, enough of them to create competition in the workforce for workers, instead of workers competing for low paying jobs. i made $12 almost 10 years ago. wage stagnation stinks. if they had to struggle to find enough workers the BS vaping policy would change, they would have to pay more of the health insurance and pay more salary. the guy that owns the place is a millionaire many times over. ok, perhaps he earned it, but perhaps he can pay his people a fair working wage. sorry for venting

Sign up with a temp service.
You get to work in a lot of different places. You can experience the work environment and more importantly they can see how you work. It may lead to full time.

Downsides are many like lower pay('cause the service takes a cut)

Crappy jobs.. But you can tell the service it's not for you.

Waiting by the phone for work to call you. (no trouble if you have a cell)

You gotta be pretty flexible and willing to take orders and work hard. You are easily replaced.

You may wait weeks for a call, but if they know you have a good work ethic and work hard they'll call you for the better jobs over others that have not been proven yet.

It is hard to get good help these days, a lot of businesses use temp services to find good fits for them.
Cheers.

i have worked for temp services in the past and i try to avoid them. i am really looking for direct hire. when i worked at a certain place i wont name, there were people that were working there as temps. some of them took a year or more to get "hired on". these people were doing the same work, getting less pay, no health ins, certainly no vacations. sure they might get you a job but they can use and abuse you.

really what i would like to have is $14 hourly starting pay, good health benefits, and MYOB about the vaping so long as i do it outside.

What are you trained for? A career change may be in order.

If you are into the technical side of work you can get starting pay in the $20 to $30 range with growth potential from there. A couple of years in the local technical school will quality you for that. It's a long run if you have to work all day and go to school 4 nights a week after work, but it pays off in higher salaries. Most companies also send you to their schools to bring you up to speed on their products once you have the technical training.

I started with a two year electronics degree from a tech school and spent 36 years with a multinational company as a tech rep. I was assigned a company vehicle that they traded in for a new one every two years. I took the car home at night and was allowed to use it for personal business at a low mileage rate. That save me a car payment most of that time.

During my career I went back to school at night and finished my degree in computer science. The company paid for that. I enrolled in a two year degree program to become a Cisco Network Engineer after retirement. Government grants paid for that and the school told me I couldn't pay for it myself, even though I offered to.

Most of these jobs have two year training programs at your local technical college. State schools have the programs that can save you money. Avoid private schools if you can.

If on benefits in the uk after six months you will be told to take part in a "mandatory" work programme (basically a private scumbag company leaching for unpaid labourers). If a benefit claimant refuses to do this programme then they can have their benefits stopped for up to three years. If benefits are stopped then a claimant can apply for something called "hardship allowance". Hardship allowance is paid at a 40% reduction of the benefits a claimant is usually entitled to. If a claimant accepts the programme then they can continue to receive regular benefits.

The point is that the money which would be held back if the programme is refused is £60 a fortnight and the programme involves working for 30 hours per week which means an hourly wage of £1. And that's paid by government. And where did this idea come from ?. Germany's own private EU.

You gotta love the EU with their toxic chemicals and their labour camps.
