I'd stick to the 24 mg liquid. 36 is the highest recommended strength, and although your wife smoked non-filters, she only smoked one pack/day. It's too bad they won't let you select different nic levels. It would have been nice to get some in 18, 24, and even 36. Some folks like to use something very strong for cravings or special times of the day, first vape, after eating, etc.

Vapor is not the same as smoke, and a fair number of people find it very harsh, hard to inhale without coughing, at first. The higher the nic level, the harsher it will be. vaping technique (lots of threads on how to do it differently than smoking), PG/VG ratio, and nic levels can help with the harshness, but it can take a little while to get used to the new substances. Don't let your wife get discouraged. One of the great things about ecigs is they mix well with regular smoking, unlike the patch or gum. If she has trouble quitting at first, the ecig will gradually replace the regular smoking, not be in addition to it.

Resistance changes the power. The higher the resistance, the less vapor you get and the cooler it will be. Low resistance gives more and hotter vapor.

If you haven't looked at the ECF library you should check it out. Also the info page and the stickies are a great source of info.

As far as videos, what specifically do you want to see? There are tons of them on YouTube and throughout this forum.

Thank you. I want to get a reasonably effective e-cig the first time around. I don't want my wife to give up on e-cigs before she gives them a fair shake; I want a kit she can grow with instead of starting anew with a whole new system.

Question. Are drip tips necessary or useful if one uses a cartomizer? From what I can tell, drip tips are used for attys(?). And how is a drip tip different than filling a cartomizer directly from the liquid bottle?

So, for my wife who smokes Camel no-filters, it seems that a low resistance carto would be recommended.

I've already spent 3-4 hours reading this site, including the ECF library from top to bottom. I would just like a link or two to a few good videos on how to use a Riva 510 with a cartomizer.

Drip tips aren't necessary for cartos, but I think most people use them. The carto comes with a small plastic doughnut shaped stopper. You can inhale using only that but the metal carto can become hot and is not ergonomic. When you fill the carto, or top it off with liquid, it is much easier to pull off a drip tip than to pry out the stopper. Don't top off or fill through the drip tip. As someone already pointed out, they're designed to funnel fluid to the center of an atty, not where you want it to go on a carto.

Hard to say what your wife will like as far as resistance. Considering that she smoked non-filters, my guess would be she'll eventually want something with more kick than a standard. She may not want that kick to start with though. If you're ordering the 15 carto deal, one 5-pack of standard and two 5-packs of LR would be my choice. She may be satisfied with the standard resistance and may find the LR too much, especially at first, but if I had to bet, I'd say in a few weeks she'll prefer the LR. That's just a guess though.

I don't know of any comprehensive videos, but I'll go look for some that might be useful to you.

Thank you. Is there a shape/style of drip tip preferred over other styles?

Here are some vids on filling cartos using different methods:

Boge LR ecig Cartomizer fill and use from SmartVapes - YouTube

Filling a 510 cartomizer soft top - YouTube

I personally use the drip method and also use the thermometer shake technique on the initial fill.

As to drip tips, I'd start with the plain delrin plastic ones. They can be as much a fashion statement as a more comfortable way to vape and your wife may want to customize her ecig eventually. Here's a vid on a few of the many styles:

DRIP TIPS LIKE WHOAH - YouTube

I doubt those are the best videos out there, but they get the point across and will hopefully be useful.

Is your wife REALLY ready to give up cigarettes? Vaping takes a little more effort than smoking. It's much more fiddly, with cartomizers to fill, batteries to keep charged, etc. There are no juices that I've tried so far that taste like a cigarette, not that this a bad thing, but you (your wife) need to know what to expect. The tobacco flavors taste more like what a freshly opened pack of smokes smells like.

...been reading all of this and thought I'd throw out a thought or two...instead of the Lite Bundle, consider the carto delux bundle...the reg carts are a pain in the .... and you will be going with the cartos anyway...the carto kit comes with a nice carry case and I believe the cartos are in the std range, so that will be covered...the carto bundle comes with a USB charge cable for charging off of a USB port so, if you get that kit, you will havvta add 120vac to USB wall adapter...finally on the cartos from CCV, they come with 2 drip tips so, you needn't order them special...think of the drip tips as a nice mouth piece, not as something you fill the cartos with...they also come with a syringe which is really handy for the first filling of a carto...the LR Boge2.0s are great but the Resurrectors on the same page ROCK...they are a bit warmer and hold twice as much liquid...dormouse has given you good advice on everything and especially on juice...good luck to you and your wife...to her I would say, when you very first start and go...this is nutz, keep on trying and she will get it figured out in no time at all.............

I'll be making my purchase this evening. Again, thanks for all of your help. Here's my current revised list:

1) Black Riva 510 Carto Deluxe starter kit from Liberty-Flights. $34.39. (include 5-pack of Boge cartomizers).
2) 500mA Mains Plug - US. $5.99. (the Carto Deluxe kit comes with USB cable only).
3) 5-pack of Ressurector Cartomizers from Crystal Clear Vaping. $7.85.
4) 50ml Sampler Pack from the Vapor Station. 24mg, RY4, Tampa, Seattle, Apple, Cafe Sumatra, Black Cherry, Cocoa, Rosewater, Cherry Almond, Frost. $25.

Since the Vapor Station takes some time to assemble their sample pack (probably 1.5 weeks for delivery), I'd like to order a little juice from either Liberty-Flights or Crystal Clear Vaping to get my wife started with e-cigs before the Vapor Station sample pack arrives. Suggestions?

Madjack, I don't see where the drip tips are included in this order.

Is there anything I'm missing or need revising?

The only thing I might ammend would be to juices maybe. I'd stick to the tobaccos, maybe add a fruit. Don't get me wrong, most people move on from tobacco, I know I did, but it'd be good if she could find a tobacco to make the transition. Something like Rosewood my be odd to her.

Here are a few reviews of their juice that might help-

Thank you swedishfish for the tobacco-like juice suggestions. Since the sample pack takes time to assemble and ship, I'd like to order a 15ml bottle or two that ships the next day. What flavor would you suggest? I'm leaning towards the Tennessee, Tampa, and Frisco. What's a good starter flavor?

Just going through the reviews I see Tennessee, tampa, Fresco recommended a lot. Also VS4 and Texas. Maybe you should go with your instincts though. Juice is such a subjective thing. I heard of juices recommended here all the time and I tried them and hated them. You just never really know.

I probably shouldn't be recommending tobacco juices since I don't vape tobacco. But my mom does and my sister do. I got my sister a bottle of Tampa and that's the only juice she vapes. She won't even try anything else. My mom vapes BWB Casablanca only (weird family). She's tried my sister's VS juice and likes it but just sticks with her juice. I have tried their Creme soda which they don't seem to carry anymore but it was excellent.

All of the juices might be a good choice. The Rosewater wouldn't be my personal choice but it might be excellent for someone else.

It's very good quality juice and they're excellent suppliers.

First off....you're a good hubby to be doing this for your spouse. Too many women don't know how lucky they are to have guys like you and me...lol.

I've had both, rivas and egos, and found the ego to be a superior product.(my opinion). Cartos rock(atties suck...too much fiddeling around).

Finding a juice that you(she) will like is like finding a movie that you(she) or myself will all like. It's almost impossible to find one that everyone likes. Madvapes has a good assortment of tobacco type juices that are pretty reasonably priced. I know that a lot of people will steer you towards samplers, and that is good...kinda, if your a "dripper", but with cartos that can take 3+ mls. to fill it is kind of hard to check out a juice when you only get 1 or 2 chances to decide if you like it or not. I quit ordering samplers for that reason and only order 10 mls. as a sampler. But at the onset the smaller samplers might work because without a doubt she will take a single vape of some juice that she will know right away is not for her.

Value vapor has some good priced juice also for getting your feet wet with vaping. And then, if she is anything like the rest of us, she will soon be ordering/stalking/stockpiling/sampling...etc...

Good luck on your quest. And again...you're a good guy for doing this your beloved.

That is a good point Hawkizefan. I never fill a carto unless I know I like the juice. I usually test it by dripping or filling a cart.

Sometimes tastes do change though. Something she may hate when she first tries it she might eventually like a couple weeks later when she detoxes from the cigs and her tastes come back.

Also- there's always the option to mix juices together. If the cherry is strong for example, mix the cherry with tobacco. I accidently mixed some of my peach juice with my mom's tobacco juice and I really liked it! I happen to like menthol/mint so I mix that in all my juices.

Good points. I also mix it up constantly. Hardly ever vape a single "pure" juice. I have on hand at all times a big bottle of Top Vapor(from Madvapes) cherry tobacco. Can't vape it straight, but love it as an addition to all of my other bacco liquids.
